COLOURS OF ROCK

With Scorpions – Colours of Rock, BMG is reissuing the eventful band history of these hard rock legends in blazing iridescent colour.
The exclusive reissues will be released on 5 May, 2023, and feature twelve album highlights from throughout their career on a variety of coloured vinyl.
Including four legendary albums remastered for the first time from original master tapes.

Berlin, 2 March, 2023 – Saying that the Scorpions can look back on an eventful history as a band would be an understatement. Their spectacular story is now becoming a new and very colourful experience: With Scorpions – Colours of Rock, BMG is announcing the reissue of twelve album highlights by the legendary German hard rock band who have shaped the music world – now appearing on coloured vinyl. Alongside versions of Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer and Humanity (Hour 1), remastered for the first time ever, are further handpicked treasures including Savage Amusement, World Wide Live, Love at First Sting, Blackout, Animal Magnetism, Lovedrive, Tokyo Tapes and Taken By Force. The reissued albums can be pre-ordered exclusively on Scorpions.ArtoftheAlbum.Store  starting on 2 March, 2023. They will be released on 5 May, 2023, only days before the Scorpions embark on the European leg of their Rock Believer World Tour, which had previously taken them across South America – from El Salvador via Colombia, Brazil and Argentina to Chile – during the first months of the year.

Relentless success, constant musical evolution, and ass-kicking performances worldwide – as colourful and eclectic as the career path of the biggest German rock band has been and still is to this day, just as multifaceted are the vinyl colours of these twelve reissues. The colours chosen for the vinyl versions not only reflect the iridescent band history, they are also paired with the style of the original artwork of each individual album.

A particular treat for hard-core Scorpions fans, of course, must definitely be the four albums remastered for the first time in history:

The Scorpions’ second studio album Fly To The Rainbow from 1974 differs style-wise considerably compared to their debut Lonesome Crow. Although it marked a departure into a more experimental direction, the album displayed deep influences from hard rock and gave us a first glimpse of where the band’s music would be taking us in the future. It is the first album by the Scorpions on which they alone were responsible for production. For the reissue, it is being released on transparent violet vinyl.

With In Trance, their subsequent third studio album, the Scorpions made their breakthrough in Japan. The eponymous hit is joined on the album by “Night Lights”, the band’s first instrumental piece. It is the first work by the Scorpions recorded together with producer Dieter Dierks, a longtime companion and business associate. The transparent vinyl of the new version brings back memories of the legendary original artwork by photographer Michael von Gimbut.

A remastered version of the Scorpions’ shortest album is also being reissued on powder blue vinyl – the 35-minute Virgin Killer. The fourth studio album by the band from Hannover was released in 1976. It is their first album to go Gold in Japan. This took the group one step further away from their psychedelic roots and deeper into the realm of hard rock.

The remastered treasures are complemented by Humanity (Hour 1) which was released in 2007. The concept album was produced in Los Angeles by legendary producer dream team Desmond Child and James Michael. Klaus Meine was looking for a very modern sound, without wanting to lose the slightest bit of the Scorpions’ character in the process. To achieve this, he combined the early Scorpions sound on this album with that of their later productions. The 21st studio album by the hard rock legends was pressed on gold vinyl for the new version.

The four remastered albums are joined by eight further carefully selected classics:

Taken By Force, released in 1977, is now coming out pressed on white vinyl, featuring songs like “Steamrock Fever”, “He’s A Woman – She’s A Man” or the ballad “Born To Touch Your Feelings.” It marks the last studio album with Uli Jon Roth and the first with drummer Herman Rarebell. Next up is Tokyo Tapes (1978), a magnificent live album now reissued on yellow vinyl. This is an excellent opportunity to (re)discover the music the Scorpions wrote before their life as superstars.

Originally released in 1979, Lovedrive marked the beginning of a new era in the history of the band, already bearing the hallmarks of what would be the signature of the band’s music for the decades to come. It is now being reissued on red vinyl. To record the following album, Animal Magnetism, the Scorpions went into the studio pressured by an extremely tight schedule between two tours. Who knows? Never-the-less, or perhaps precisely why, they succeeded in creating such an innovative masterpiece. The milestone released in 1980, and their first album to go Platinum in the USA, has now been pressed on red vinyl.

Their eighth studio album Blackout then followed in 1982, catapulting the band forevermore onto the Mount Olympus of hard rock. What could be more befitting of the legendary artwork by Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein than crystal-clear vinyl?

This LP was followed only one year later by Love at First Sting, the most successful album of their long career – bringing us hits like “Still Loving You” and “Rock You Like A Hurricane”. The album, the cover of which was shot by Helmut Newton, entered the Top 10 in numerous countries and made it to No. 6 of the US charts. It is now being released on silver vinyl.

For World Wide Live, originally released in 1985 and now being reissued on transparent orange vinyl, a film crew followed the band’s caravan across the USA, Asia and Europe all the way to South America. The footage captures the electrifying intensity of their shows. The reissue is made complete by Savage Amusement from 1988, now pressed on transparent light-blue vinyl. For this album, they barricaded themselves in the studio for almost three years together with producer Dieter Dierks where they worked on the successor to follow in the footsteps of their greatest albums. The result of which seamlessly picked up right where their previous albums left off. Successfully.

Reissued collectively under the title Scorpions – Colours of Rock are the following twelve album highlights from 1974 to 2007:

  • Fly To The Rainbow (1974): 180g 1LP, pressed on transparent violet vinyl
  • In Trance (1975): 180g 1LP, pressed on transparent vinyl

  • Humanity (Hour 1) (2007): 180g Gatefold 2LP, pressed on gold vinyl

The Scorpions are undoubtedly amongst the greatest rock bands of all time. The band line-up today includes singer Klaus Meine, Scorpions founder Rudolf Schenker (guitar), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Pawel Maciwoda (bass), and Mikkey Dee (drums). The incredible career of the hard rock titans from Hannover, Germany, has already lasted for more than half a century, during which their music has taken the world literally and figuratively by storm, selling more than 110 million albums, breaking one record after the other, while continuously evolving and reinventing themselves again and again. It was just last year that they cemented their status as legends with the new album Rock Believer: No. 2 in Germany and Switzerland, No. 4 in Austria, Top 20 in the UK, and Top 60 in the USA. So it comes as no surprise that the Scorpions have rocked their way to a reputation as one of the best live bands ever. Which they continue to demonstrate this year: This upcoming April, their Rock Believer World Tour kicks off in South America. The European leg of the tour, with a total of twenty concerts, starts on 9 May, 2023, in Lille, France. Full details on tour dates and tickets can be found on www.the-scorpions.com.

Scorpions Blow Roof Off Tacoma Dome

via Seattle Music Insider

German rockers Scorpions have been churning out records and tours for nearly six decades. They get better and better over time and their near capacity performance at the Tacoma Dome during their ‘Rock Believer’ tour was no exception.

The band performed an exceptional list comprised of 17 songs spanning the course of 90 minutes that was close to perfection. For a band that has been around for decades and with members in their late sixties to early seventies, the members of Scorpions had great energy and enthusiasm, and they looked to be having an awesome time. They performed to a crowd that spanned a wide range of people, from those seeing the band for the first time to the umpteenth time, many with their children and some with their grandchildren!

Though Scorpions has had lineup changes, the current band members – founder Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar), Klaus Meine (vocals), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Pawel Maciwoda (bass) have been the mainstays of the band for the past twenty years, only having been recently joined by Mikkey Dee (drums) in 2016, and they performed as a well-oiled machine.

The band is touring the world in support of their latest release Rock Believer, though the set also leant some focus to their most popular releases Love at First Sting and Crazy World.

Meine’s voice still sounds great after all these years. He loves to interact with the crowd, and the crowd loved it when he tossed drums sticks out to select areas around the stage and catwalk as well as posing for the crowd to thunderous ovations.

Schenker, Jabs and Maciwoda were tight knit and total hams for the crowd. Dee was a beast on the drums and, since joining the band, he has rekindled the fire that drives the band’s motivation.

Though there was a great response to whatever Scorpions song was performed, the bigger and louder responses came when the band played their biggest hits and fan favorites such as “The Zoo”, “Bad Boys Running Wild”, “Winds of Change”, “Big City Nights” and “Rock You Like a Hurricane”.

Unfortunately the original opening act, Whitesnake, had to drop off of the tour. Thundermother, who hail from Stockholm, were a great replacement and did a superb job of getting the show started.

New Single Out Go The Lights

Rock Believers in Japan New single “Out Go The Lights” out now

Long nights at the Lexington Queen, a famous club in Tokyo at the time, made us all forget that we already had our next gig the next day …. Back at the hotel Rudolf called Klaus and said … Klaus … look at the sunrise … as if the sky is on fire … just awesome … Big City Nights was inspired by that night in Tokyo. Our new single “Out Go The Lights” is a homage to Japan and great memory of our first unforgettable shows in the land of the rising sun.

You can listen to it everywhere now! 🌄

Scorpions crank it loud as pure Rock Believers on current U.S. tour

The Scorpions, in the middle of their own Rock Believer 2022 World Tour, appeared at the less-than-a-year-old UBS Arena at Belmont Park in downtown Elmont, New York, on September 7. The beautiful new arena is located right next to the Cross Island Parkway for a very convenient entrance and exit of this venue. The 19,000 seat arena (for concerts) was not filled to capacity for the Scorpions since the tour was originally a dual headliner with Whitesnake. Since Whitesnake’s cancellation, the Scorpions have headlined the entire tour.

Scorpions released their latest studio album Rock Believer in February of this year, and when vocalist Klaus Meine, guitarists Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, bassist Pawel Maciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee hit the stage it was with the energetic Rock Believer song “Gas in the Tank.” The stage lit up with an amazing amount of lights and visuals — a giant black metallic scorpion and a huge pile of TV sets appeared behind drummer Mikkey Dee (who replaced longtime Scorpions drummer James Kottak).

The band would go to their 1980 release Animal Magnetism for back-to-back songs, “Make it Real” and “The Zoo,” as the twin axe-attack of Jabs and Schenker made itself known at the end of the band’s extended stage that reached 10 rows into the seated crowd. Bassist Maciwoda would then take over for Jabs, jamming with Schenker. Meine wandered around, hitting his tambourine, and tossing drumsticks out to fans surrounding the front part of the stage. Then “Coast to Coast” kicked in, representing the band’s 1979 release, Lovedrive.

The Scorpions would continue on into their latest release with the singles from Rock Believer: “Seventh Sun” and “Peacemaker,” then back to their 1984 release Love at First Sting with “Bad Boys Running Wild.” The band would have a good part of the UBS arena on their feet during “Bad Boys Running Wild.” They followed this up with a tune from their MTV Unplugged in Athens (live) release, “Delicate Dance.” Another couple of slower songs followed: “Send Me an Angel” and “Wind of Change.” Meine encouraged the UBS Arena crowd to sing parts of the popular “Wind of Change.” Schenker began the first part of the song on an acoustic guitar, as visuals of flying lanterns and birds appeared on the back screen, with a round peace sign intermittently flashing (Klaus Meine wore a denim vest during this part of the show with the same round peace symbol on the back of it).

The Scorpions kicked it back up a couple notches with a 1990 favorite from the Crazy World release, “Tease Me Please Me.” During the song, Jabs cranked out the leads while Rudolph did Pete Townshend-style windmills with his guitar. Jabs, Meine, Maciwoda and Schenker then lined up on the side of the stage for one of their famed performance poses, heading into to the title song “Rock Believer” — a song dedicated to all their fans, as Meine pointed out to the crowd a giant metallic hand with horns surrounded by Marshall stacks and guitars. Maciwodal made the transition to the instrumental “New Vision,” leading Mikkey Dee to a powerful drum solo, which ended with an eruption of cheers from the Scorpions fans.

Scorpions would start their next song and title track of their 1982 album release Blackout. Running out to the edge of the extended stage, Schenker came out crankin’ the opening notes with his smokin’ tailpipe flying V guitar filling the space around him, and Jabs in a thick amount of smoke, as both of them would move around the stage and the smoke would continue pouring out from Schneker’s guitar throughout the song. This led into the hit “Big City Nights” to end the set.

As the band came back onstage for an encore, vocalist Klaus Meine said, “What can I say after all these years. We love you, America! There is …’No One Like You’.” and the band launched into one of their biggest hit songs. The crowd became very amped and shouted out the chorus of the song with everything they had. To begin their final song for the night, “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” Maciwoda joined Dee on the drum riser, getting the crowd to keep the clapping going while smoke filled the stage floor. Jabs and Schenker cranked out the opening riff as the song title flashed in big words on the back screen. Lights, smoke, visuals and all the last-minute insanity the band could throw out to the Long Island crowd (like Schenker running to end of the stage taking a leap into the air, landing on the stage and pointing into the crowd) ended this incredible night of Scorpions entertainment.

SCORPIONS ROCK FOXWOODS IN CONNECTICUT | 9.9.2022

Via Northeast Rock Review

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. -The legendary German Hard Rock / Heavy Metal band, the Scorpions brought their Rock Believer tour to the Premier Theatre at Foxwoods Casino in support of their new release Rock Believer. The band’s current lineup is: Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) (1965–present), Klaus Meine (lead vocals) (1969–present), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar, backing vocals)(1978–present), Paweł Mąciwoda (bass guitar, backing vocals) (2003–present), Mikkey Dee (drums) (2016–present).

The band hit the stage with a brand new song “Gas in the Tank,” from their current release Rock Believer (2022), and then following it up with two classics “Make it Real” and “The Zoo,” both from Animal Magnetism (1980). I was quite amazed on how well singer Klaus Meine sounded on vocals. At 74 years old Klaus sounds better than many singers half his age. This is quite an amazing feat considering that he has been the singer for the Scorpions for over 53 years (since 1969).

Next up was “Coast to Coast,” an instrumental from Lovedrive (1979) in which Klaus strapped on a guitar and rocked out with his bandmates. They then introduced two more new songs, “Seventh Sun” and “Peacemaker,” from Rock Believer (2022) before hitting back with another deep cut with “Bad Boys Running Wild” from Love at First Sting (1984).

After playing “Delicate Dance” the guys decide to slow it down a little with “Send Me an Angel” and “Wind of Change,” both from Crazy World (1990). The lyrics of “Wind of Change” had been changed to show their support for Ukraine. This was a powerful message considering Klaus Meine wrote the song after performing at the Moscow Music Peace Festival in August of 1989 and his experience leading up to the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989.

The band sped it back up with “Tease Me Please Me” and “Rock Believer.” After that bassist Paweł Mąciwoda kicked into a bass solo with drummer Mikkey Dee backing him as the others left the stage. At the end of the bass solo Pawel left the stage as Mikkey continued on to do his drum solo. The full band returned to the stage for “Blackout” from Blackout (1982) and “Big City Nights” from Love at First Sting (1984) before taking their bows and leaving the stage. After a few minutes, the band came back out to close the night out with legendary classics “No One Like You” and “Rock You Like A Hurricane”

It truly amazes me that after 57 years the Scorpions are still writing good music and are performing great live shows. I was truly pleased with the stage setup, the lighting, the tv screens, the setlist and the performance. I hope these guys continue to tour because I’d love to see them again.
