Vive Latino Festival Update

“Dear Mexican Fans
Knowing that some of our most amazing diehard fans live in Mexico, it is with a heavy heart that I have to let you know, Scorpions will not be performing at the Vive Latino Festival on the 16th March 2024 in Mexico City.

The reason we have had to cancel is because I recently underwent a complex spine surgery , and my doctors expected me to be better and back on my feet in time for the show.

I am making good progress with my rehab, but unfortunately, I have not recovered as expected and after talking with my medical team, I am advised that a 12-hour flight time and performing at 2000 meters altitude is a tough one for anybody and I am not well enough to travel and to give you the show you all deserve.

I hope we can come back to Mexico soon, to Rock you Like a Hurricane!!!!!

I am so sorry for causing this inconvenience to all our loyal Mexican fans and to the excellent promoters, and hope, for your understanding.
Love….Klaus “

Klaus Meine Says Scorpions Will Be Touring In 2024 And 2025 For Band’s 60th Anniversary

Via Blabbermouth

In a brand new interview with Justin Young of Monsters, Madness And MagicSCORPIONS vocalist Klaus Meine spoke about the band’s plans for the coming months and years. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Well, we’re still out there with the ‘Rock Believer’ tour. It takes us around the world. And even though we have a little break right now, we keep going next year, we pick it up. And we might come back to the United States and a lot of other places we haven’t been on this tour so far and we keep going. And who knows if we go back to the studio at some point again. We never really talk about it. Right now, we’re still doing ‘Rock Believer’ tour and we enjoy it a lot.”

He continued: “There’s so many rock believers out there. When you think, so many people in all those years said rock is dead because of grunge, because of hip-hop, because of rap, whatever it is. But no, it’s not dead at all. There are millions of rock believers out there, and we can’t wait to see them in 2024 and in ’25, because it will mark the 60th anniversary of the SCORPIONS. That is something quite special. So right now, ’24, ’25 — next year we’re on the road, and we put it all together right now. And we can’t wait to see the rock believers out there again.

“The new album is still a new album, ‘Rock Believer’, and we can’t wait to go out there,” Klaus repeated. “And maybe we change a couple songs in the show. We’ll see, we’ll see. It’s too early to say. And we can’t wait to be out there next year. And for ’25, yeah, it’s 60 years. Hard to believe. There are guys, the next generation ahead of us, like THE ROLLING STONES, it’s amazing to see what they’re doing. Just heard, a couple of days ago, their new songs, and, man, they’re rocking hard. That’s pretty cool.”

Last month, SCORPIONS founder Rudolf Schenker seemingly dismissed any talk of possible retirement but acknowledged that the band will not be able to continue indefinitely. The 75-year-old guitarist told Vikram Chandrasekar of Tales From The Road: “It’s not a never-ending road. The road will be finished sooner or later; it’s up to you and to our gods. But in 2025, that could be a great time for our 60th anniversary. 2025, it’s the time when SCORPIONS is 60 years old. So, then, to celebrate 60 years of SCORPIONS could be a possibility, because I’m in contact with our very old drummer, who was playing on [SCORPIONS‘ 1972 debut album] ‘Lonesome Crow’, and the bass player, and use them also on stage to see the different kind of states we went through. Because we are very much connected still in all the different musicians, and that shows again, when we can make it, that music is always there for making friendships.”

Back in May 2022, Meine told Jorge Botas of Portugal’s “Metal Global” that there was no more talk of retirement within the band, as there was back in 2010 with what was purported to be a final album and a farewell tour that never quite took hold. “No, we scratched that word [retirement] out of our [vocabulary],” the now-75-year-old singer said. “It’s not there. We don’t think about it and we don’t talk about it and we take it as it comes.

“We’re just growing older and we do what we do and we hope our fans enjoy it as much as we do,” Klaus continued. “But who would have thought we’re still around after celebrating 50 years of being recording artists — our first album came out in 1972 and now ‘Rock Believer’ looks like it hits the big time with the fans and so many positive reviews from all over the world. And after all these years, who would have thought? And it’s a wonderful thing.

“But all we know is [that] the road ahead is way shorter than what’s behind us,” Meine added. “And we never take it for granted — we never take success for granted. We work hard on what we do because we still love it and we still enjoy it. But it’s what it is. And I think every artist knows what I’m talking about, because to go out there, play a great show for the fans and not let ’em down, it takes a lot of preparation, takes a lot of work. And being the singer, you try to make sure your pipes are in a good condition.

“It’s a lot of things,” Meine said. “And we don’t know what the future will bring. Take a look at the next corner, and you never know what’s going on. But right now, life is good. We have a great new album out there. And we have a lot of fun. We enjoy it.”

Meine previously discussed SCORPIONS‘ aborted retirement in a 2018 interview with SiriusXM. “The thing is we have a much different view now,” Klaus said. “And it’s a young generation — that’s the fuel that keeps us going, and it’s really motivating.

“To be honest, every other year, you take a look around the corner: ‘Can we do this?’ ‘Can we still deliver on the same high level, the way we used to do it?'” he admitted. “And that’s the only way, and it’s only fun if you can go out there and play a great rock show, wherever you do it. Like in the last couple of weeks, we had so much fun. But then you get sick on the road, like I did last year with the severe laryngitis. What can you do? There’s not a chance. And then sometimes, of course, you ask yourself, ‘How long can we do this?’ Especially for singers — and I know I’m not the only one. But it’s always, sometimes you ask yourself, ‘Klaus, c’mon, how long can you keep up this level?’ And then you go out there, everything feels good.”

Circling back to SCORPIONS‘ 2010 “farewell tour” announcement, Klaus told SiriusXM: “Of course, we had our moment of doubt when we said, ‘Okay. Maybe we should retire. Maybe this is a good moment.’ And then we realized we were wrong, because there’s still a lot of sting in the tail, so to speak, and it still feels good. There’s such a demand for the SCORPIONS, and we’re one of the few bands who play this global stage. If there wasn’t this kind of demand, of course, there’s no point after so many years, and you’d better go, ‘Well, I go home and take it easy.’ But there’s such a strong demand and that really feels good and challenging — it’s a challenge. Of course, you don’t do it for the business. It’s a good business, yes, but you don’t do it for the business and for the money — you do it for the fun, you do it for what’s inside of you, what’s in your blood, what’s in your veins, and that’s the rock and roll music. And you wanna go out and play in front of an audience, because that’s what it’s all about.”

SCORPIONS‘ only continuous member has been Schenker, although Meine has appeared on all of the band’s studio albums, while guitarist Matthias Jabs has been a consistent member since 1978, and bassist Paweł Mąciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee have been in the band since 2003 and 2016, respectively.

SCORPIONS‘ latest album, “Rock Believer”, was released in February 2022. The album was recorded primarily at Peppermint Park Studios in Hannover, Germany and was mixed at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, Germany with engineer Michael Ilbert, who has earned multiple Grammy nominations for his mix work with producer Max Martin on albums by Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

SCORPIONS originally intended to record the new album in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman, whose previous credits include SLIPKNOT and METALLICA. However, because of the pandemic, some of the initial work was done with Greg remotely, after which SCORPIONS opted to helm the recordings themselves with the help of their engineer Hans-Martin Buff.

Winds of Change with Rudolf Schenker

After years of pursuing an interview, I finally had the chance to sit down with the legendary Rudolf Schenker of The Scorpions.
As a long-time fan of their music since their early years, I had the opportunity to discuss iconic concerts, playing in India,  road stories involving Iron Maiden and Def Leppard, and more

Colours of Rock

COLOURS OF ROCK

With Scorpions – Colours of Rock, BMG is reissuing the eventful band history of these hard rock legends in blazing iridescent colour.
The exclusive reissues will be released on 5 May, 2023, and feature twelve album highlights from throughout their career on a variety of coloured vinyl.
Including four legendary albums remastered for the first time from original master tapes.

Berlin, 2 March, 2023 – Saying that the Scorpions can look back on an eventful history as a band would be an understatement. Their spectacular story is now becoming a new and very colourful experience: With Scorpions – Colours of Rock, BMG is announcing the reissue of twelve album highlights by the legendary German hard rock band who have shaped the music world – now appearing on coloured vinyl. Alongside versions of Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer and Humanity (Hour 1), remastered for the first time ever, are further handpicked treasures including Savage Amusement, World Wide Live, Love at First Sting, Blackout, Animal Magnetism, Lovedrive, Tokyo Tapes and Taken By Force. The reissued albums can be pre-ordered exclusively on Scorpions.ArtoftheAlbum.Store  starting on 2 March, 2023. They will be released on 5 May, 2023, only days before the Scorpions embark on the European leg of their Rock Believer World Tour, which had previously taken them across South America – from El Salvador via Colombia, Brazil and Argentina to Chile – during the first months of the year.

Relentless success, constant musical evolution, and ass-kicking performances worldwide – as colourful and eclectic as the career path of the biggest German rock band has been and still is to this day, just as multifaceted are the vinyl colours of these twelve reissues. The colours chosen for the vinyl versions not only reflect the iridescent band history, they are also paired with the style of the original artwork of each individual album.

A particular treat for hard-core Scorpions fans, of course, must definitely be the four albums remastered for the first time in history:

The Scorpions’ second studio album Fly To The Rainbow from 1974 differs style-wise considerably compared to their debut Lonesome Crow. Although it marked a departure into a more experimental direction, the album displayed deep influences from hard rock and gave us a first glimpse of where the band’s music would be taking us in the future. It is the first album by the Scorpions on which they alone were responsible for production. For the reissue, it is being released on transparent violet vinyl.

With In Trance, their subsequent third studio album, the Scorpions made their breakthrough in Japan. The eponymous hit is joined on the album by “Night Lights”, the band’s first instrumental piece. It is the first work by the Scorpions recorded together with producer Dieter Dierks, a longtime companion and business associate. The transparent vinyl of the new version brings back memories of the legendary original artwork by photographer Michael von Gimbut.

A remastered version of the Scorpions’ shortest album is also being reissued on powder blue vinyl – the 35-minute Virgin Killer. The fourth studio album by the band from Hannover was released in 1976. It is their first album to go Gold in Japan. This took the group one step further away from their psychedelic roots and deeper into the realm of hard rock.

The remastered treasures are complemented by Humanity (Hour 1) which was released in 2007. The concept album was produced in Los Angeles by legendary producer dream team Desmond Child and James Michael. Klaus Meine was looking for a very modern sound, without wanting to lose the slightest bit of the Scorpions’ character in the process. To achieve this, he combined the early Scorpions sound on this album with that of their later productions. The 21st studio album by the hard rock legends was pressed on gold vinyl for the new version.

The four remastered albums are joined by eight further carefully selected classics:

Taken By Force, released in 1977, is now coming out pressed on white vinyl, featuring songs like “Steamrock Fever”, “He’s A Woman – She’s A Man” or the ballad “Born To Touch Your Feelings.” It marks the last studio album with Uli Jon Roth and the first with drummer Herman Rarebell. Next up is Tokyo Tapes (1978), a magnificent live album now reissued on yellow vinyl. This is an excellent opportunity to (re)discover the music the Scorpions wrote before their life as superstars.

Originally released in 1979, Lovedrive marked the beginning of a new era in the history of the band, already bearing the hallmarks of what would be the signature of the band’s music for the decades to come. It is now being reissued on red vinyl. To record the following album, Animal Magnetism, the Scorpions went into the studio pressured by an extremely tight schedule between two tours. Who knows? Never-the-less, or perhaps precisely why, they succeeded in creating such an innovative masterpiece. The milestone released in 1980, and their first album to go Platinum in the USA, has now been pressed on red vinyl.

Their eighth studio album Blackout then followed in 1982, catapulting the band forevermore onto the Mount Olympus of hard rock. What could be more befitting of the legendary artwork by Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein than crystal-clear vinyl?

This LP was followed only one year later by Love at First Sting, the most successful album of their long career – bringing us hits like “Still Loving You” and “Rock You Like A Hurricane”. The album, the cover of which was shot by Helmut Newton, entered the Top 10 in numerous countries and made it to No. 6 of the US charts. It is now being released on silver vinyl.

For World Wide Live, originally released in 1985 and now being reissued on transparent orange vinyl, a film crew followed the band’s caravan across the USA, Asia and Europe all the way to South America. The footage captures the electrifying intensity of their shows. The reissue is made complete by Savage Amusement from 1988, now pressed on transparent light-blue vinyl. For this album, they barricaded themselves in the studio for almost three years together with producer Dieter Dierks where they worked on the successor to follow in the footsteps of their greatest albums. The result of which seamlessly picked up right where their previous albums left off. Successfully.

Reissued collectively under the title Scorpions – Colours of Rock are the following twelve album highlights from 1974 to 2007:

  • Fly To The Rainbow (1974): 180g 1LP, pressed on transparent violet vinyl
  • In Trance (1975): 180g 1LP, pressed on transparent vinyl
  • Virgin Killer (1976): 180g 1LP, pressed on powder blue vinyl
  • Taken By Force (1977): 180g 1LP, pressed on white vinyl
  • Tokyo Tapes (1978): 180g Gatefold 2LP, pressed on yellow vinyl
  • Lovedrive (1979): 180g 1LP, pressed on transparent red vinyl
  • Animal Magnetism (1980): 180g 1LP, pressed on red vinyl
  • Blackout (1982): 180g 1LP, pressed on crystal-clear vinyl
  • Love at First Sting (1983): 180g 1LP, pressed on silver vinyl
  • World Wide Live (1985): 180g Gatefold 2LP, pressed on transparent orange vinyl
  • Savage Amusement (1988): 180g 1LP, pressed on transparent light-blue vinyl
  • Humanity (Hour 1) (2007): 180g Gatefold 2LP, pressed on gold vinyl

The Scorpions are undoubtedly amongst the greatest rock bands of all time. The band line-up today includes singer Klaus Meine, Scorpions founder Rudolf Schenker (guitar), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Pawel Maciwoda (bass), and Mikkey Dee (drums). The incredible career of the hard rock titans from Hannover, Germany, has already lasted for more than half a century, during which their music has taken the world literally and figuratively by storm, selling more than 110 million albums, breaking one record after the other, while continuously evolving and reinventing themselves again and again. It was just last year that they cemented their status as legends with the new album Rock Believer: No. 2 in Germany and Switzerland, No. 4 in Austria, Top 20 in the UK, and Top 60 in the USA. So it comes as no surprise that the Scorpions have rocked their way to a reputation as one of the best live bands ever. Which they continue to demonstrate this year: This upcoming April, their Rock Believer World Tour kicks off in South America. The European leg of the tour, with a total of twenty concerts, starts on 9 May, 2023, in Lille, France. Full details on tour dates and tickets can be found on www.the-scorpions.com.
