here´s the link to the thread Tom began back then , where it´s easy to feel the warmth affection between friends who wrote back then , some of them are still with us now:

I can think back to the 80's, the time before the internet, Scorpions fans just met at shows or in passing and there was always that instant connection, a common bond. Many of us shared that around 1996 when Gil had his Scorpions site and mailing list forum. Good times, good friends. And then as this site grew things changed. Always great to add newer and younger fans, but seems the majority of them put more of the emphasis on the popularity of the band members and away from the music. These silly competitive feuds started. Which is why most of the oldtime fans just went away. Its hard to be a fan for 30 somewhat years and to have new fans telling you they are bigger fans, they know more, they are right and you are wrong. Always this competition. Lets kiss up to everything the band does, lets trick our way backstage. Some of the stories I have heard from reliable sources are just embarrassing.
If you are a true fan you give the band true feedback. Many of us did after PI and E2E. And the band responded with Unbreakable and a return to the hard rock roots. Many dont realize that this soft side of the band is what made its popularity dive. well they made a big impact in the Asian market but at the cost of the existing fanbase. In the US they are part of the "where are they now" circles. In Britain they are non -existant. And it has nothing to do with getting away from the 80's, evidence in iron Maiden, AC/DC and Priest who maintained their sound and never lost their fans. Though Priest may be following in the Scorpions footsteps when they replaced KK Downing, its just not the same.
So still happy to have met more wonderful Scorpions fans, but along with that we have created a bigger divide.
I like pi and eye2eye...if you are fan and you like scorpions music then some changes shouldn't matter..its all different but still its scorpions...awesome post drew!

yes fos daddy its an excellent topic! at lease its not phoney lmao!
flyingvee wrote:We are all fans just by means of liking the band and its music. And many of us fans just happen to relate to each other in many other ways too.
The problem on here has always been not the fact that we are all fans, but a lot of the newer fans challenging us and saying we are not fans because we do not say this current lineup and stae of the band is the best ever. Like their definition of "Scorpions Fan' is a fan of the current band and only the current lineup. So if you happen to be a Uli-era fan, then you are not allowed to be a fan LOL
