Sooooooooo guys, I think it’s finally time for my reviews, as im the only active forum member who was at the Byblos shows, and it is unfair that you haven’t heard a word about it yet!! (even tho social media has done a great job and you’ve seen many photos and vids already) I must say I am still recovering from the sting, the blast and the dream and it’s getting really hard to adapt to the normal life again. Oh boys what’s your secret!!!Thursday July 25 – Hotel (Beirut)
The show is on Friday (tomorrow) and we assume the time for the guys landing is at 15:00 on the Lufthansa coming straight from Frankfurt, and we assume the hotel is the one they have been to in the previous times. Based on these guesses, we go to the hotel at 4:00 and wait for the guys.
(In 2011, I haven’t done any of these and was so upset to have never met the guys, apart from some time spent with Pawel and a couple of photos only with him…so I was so determined to do somthing special this time..meeting the guys and taking photos is a must, otherwise it would be unacceptable! )
so back to my scene, it wouldn’t have made sense going to the airport because usually the guys go through a secret corridor which takes them discreetly out of the airport, which would’ve been a waste of time. I am at the hotel, waiting for the guys with 4 other Lebanese FOSers only. I even left work early and ran like crazy to catch them, ive definitely crossed the speed limit and got to pay a fine because I did not have the time to pay my pre-paid parking spot
but who cares, right?!
we are staying at the lobby, at a table, then a car stops in front of the hotel and my friend is like: here they are!! At first we thought he was kidding, as he had already done this before in order to play on our nerves and excite us even more, but this time, hey he wasn’t joking, this is Rudolf! Then they shows up Tanya, and the rest of the guys, they step up using the stairs and are here so close, but with lot of security guys and hosts around them. Two of my friends were able to catch a couple of quick photos with Klaus, Rudolf and James, but I felt it was really not the right time and the guys were in a hurry, I didn’t want to disturb so I stayed backwards, looking at them, smiling, my heart beating so so fast…however, I shook hands with James who was very friendly and then said hi to Rudolf as well…they go to their rooms and we go back to our lobby table. Next mission: Wait and only Wait!
At this time, Torsten and his assistant came by and we had a long chat with them, and then we we were able to create a friendly atmosphere with the security guys who were nice telling us they would gladly let us take photos with the band members if they accept once they show up again, and we have to be very calm, quiet and non pushy. So, we were there next to the security guys table waiting for our boys to go out for dinner so that we could catch them, and with the help of the security, we knew when to get ready, and here shows up Klaus, with his charming smile, relaxed, happy, speaking with someone whereas the 5 of us are at a short distance facing him, but not moving. We were whispering: “guys, lets remain quiet, Klaus is nice, he will not let us down!” but hey, you have no idea how much I felt like running towards him and shouting loudddd like an insane! But no, the strategy was to remain quiet, and with some effort, I managed to abide by the rules
and suddenly, Klaus looks to our direction, I was the one in front, and ended up giving him that “baby begging” look, and making with my hands the sign of a camera and then crossing my fingers, without saying a word…that moment was sooo fantastic, as I saw Klaus smiling at me, and coming to my direction…woowwww I felt the happiest on earth at this moment!!!
I said hi and shook hands with him (of course, his own way of shaking hands), and the guys took a photo of us…ok needless to say how overwhelmed and touched I was. Of course, this is the first contact with Klaus ever, and he was a sweetness, sooo charming, so loving, so Klaus! After the photo, the other guys had to take photos as well and we didn’t have much time, so all I could say was: “Thank you!!!” he smiled again, and said “ ohh sure you’re welcome”, and I even saw that shy look/smile after I said: “It’s a dream coming true!!!”…well, maybe some would wonder why I didn’t say much, but im sure most of you know how it feels in such a situation…that was a dream to me and I was actually proud o myself for being able to say something at that time
After this, Rudolf shows up and he was coming towards us and was a bit in a hurry, so when he came closer, he said: “sure, but please fast fast…” at this time, how I regretted not having my recently bought Rock your life book to be signed! I totally forgot to bring it with me to work, as I went straight from work to hotel, which explains my –not-very-practical nor rocky clothes in the photos
…As soon as we took photos with Rudolf, we realize that James and Matthias wouldn’t be leaving for dinner as well, probably because they were so tired so it doesn’t really make sense to stay anymore, we left the hotel and went with Torsten and his assistant to a nice Lebanese restaurant for a delicious dinner and a nice cold beer, and this is where I really enjoyed getting the chance to practice my German! Friday July 26, Concert Day 1 (Byblos)
Concert day 1! Byblos is like 40 mins away from my place by car, and I (with 4 other friends) already knew the promoter who had already offered us tickets for that show and who promised he would let us in before the rest without having to wait in queue, in order to get good spots (we as Lebanese fan club admins). After having a long rest day from work, getting ready for the show, we got in the car, anddddd DESTINATION: BYBLOS!! We arrive there around 18:30, the weather was so good, more like hot, a long queue waiting in front of the venue, by the sea port (the venue is built over the sea, at an ancient port of Byblos as I have already said in previous posts).
I went to the ticketing office at the venue’s entrance to get the ticket the promoter had left me, so I also asked about my ticket offered by Rudolf. The story is, there’s a nice german friend who is also friend with Rudolf and sms’ed him a week before the show asking to put me and my friend Elie on his guests list on the 27th, and Rudolf was pleased to do it. When I asked about my ticket for the 27th (as I learned the guest list only included one ticket but no backstage because it seems peter had put restrictions and there was not many people backstage)…so I asked the lady at the office, is there a ticket with my name tomorrow? And to my big shock, the lady tells me it’s for today, and when I opened it, I realized it is also a front row SEATED ticket. I was sure the ticket should have been for the 27th so I asked the promoter if there’s a way to switch it with another one for the 27th (I already had my ticket for the 26th and I thought I would have a seated ticket for the 27th and then try to switch it with a front row STANDING ticket ) and he promised to sort it out, and he took my ticket…5 minutes later, he comes back saying: “Nada, you have 2 invitations from Rudolf, and not only one, you and elie have each 2 seated tickets, front row.” How sweet of him!! I mean ok, I will need to get a standing ticket but how thoughtful and how lovely, 2 tickets, one for each night! we called 2 friends to come and see the show with our seated tickets for the 26th in order to take advantage of them and not to leave the seats empty…as per the invitation tickets of the 27th, we managed with the promoter to switch them with standing ones, it was a nice thing to do as usually invitation tickets cannot be changed not switched, but well everything was getting easy and smooth for us!
After waiting for some time, a boat shows up, coming from Beirut direction and all people queuing started shouting and waving, of course, it was them!!! On this boat, came the Scorpions, like they did in 2011, surprising the fans, they had cameras in their hands filming the crowd which was going crazy, cheering for their band of all time, and looking forward to see it performing and rocking their night out! They arrive to the quay, salute the audience, and make their way to the venue….and here was another very very special moment for me…when Matthias left to boat, and looking at us, he stares at me, waits for a moment, then waves to me, with a sign that he recognized me…OMG!!! He could recognize me out of all this crowd, he remembered Nada from Munich! (I must say here that back in May, I sent an email to Matthias to say hello and say Congrats for Borussia Dortmund for reaching the champions league final, and I also attached a photo of me with you at MJ guitars so that he knows who is writing him, and to my surprise, he replies the second day, saying thank you and telling me that this time I wont have to travel so far as they will be having 2 shows in Byblos by the end of July…that was the best email I ever received…getting to know the best news from Matthias personally!) I was really delighted to see him recognizing me and when I had doubts, thinking I could be over-analyzing his moves and looks (out of the excitement
), it was my sister and my friend who came to me saying..did u see how Matthias recognized you???
It was also nice to see some of the fans running into me and saying: “Nada?” you’re the oen from the fanclub, my name is …. Im also there in the group, thank you and keep up the good work…there are many people who recognized me and I thought like wow! Social media combined with Scorps can do miracles!
So, with the help of the promoter and the security guys who already know us from the hotel the night before, we were able to be the first to enter the venue. I was running like mad to get myself to the catwalk and I cant express my feeling when I saw it empty, all empty waiting for me!!! Yesssss, with my friends and sister, the front row was occupied the best way I could hope for!!!
it is 20:30 and the show is to start at 22:00 but with no opening bands, fortunately! I didn’t feel tired, nor annoyed, nor hot..i was so comfortable, I waited and waited with no problem and decided I wont be taking photos or filming the show as I will make sure to enjoy this show with such a spot to the very max! while waiting, elie (who was at the Munich show) gave me the scarf of FOSers gathering in Munich which Kadra :* sent to me with my name on it…I was looking at it, at each one of your names, I had a silent moment of thoughts, of each one of you and of how I should get your spirits right here now to rock with me, and all the Lebanese FOSers and the Scorpions!
So, the show begins with the intro, I had goosebumps, the feeling was beyond fantastic, “……would you please welcome, THEEEEE SCOOORPPPIIOOOOOOONSSS”…yes again again! with all the energy, all the enthusiasm, all the passion, showed up the boys, with huge smiles on their faces and lot of dynamism…the audience was sooo passionate too, it is well known that the audience in Lebanon is such a remarkable and emotional one, Matthias had already mentioned it to me in Munich and Torsten told me he had never seen such an audience in his career so you can imagine the atmosphere, especially towards a band like the Scorpions who would keep giving more in front of fans who cant hide their feeling and thirst for another show! (you know, the Lebanese cannot easily travel to many shows in one year, as tickets to Europe are relatively expensive and Lebanon is nearly the only country in this region where the Scorpions keep coming back, along with Israel of course). (of course I am sure that each audience the band has seen has its own identity and its special place and uniqueness in the boy’s hearts and minds!)
The show goes on with Sting in the Tail, Make it Real, Klaus gives a wonderful speech saying that they were here in 1996, and then after 15 years they came back in 2011, but “this time we thought we could not wait for another 15 years to come back, so here we are, after 2 years”
he said this and laughed and so did the audience, how cute of him to joke about that
I will not go into more details in the show with the usual songs as you know how it usually is and no words can describe it better than experience. I will talk about the part related to me..i was right in front of Klaus, and I was soooo taken by the songs, the concerts, his voice, the guitars, everything, I was signing my heart out, so loud, I was sooo emotional and Klaus noticed it and kept sending me winks, looks and hands shaking…I don’t know if he recognized me from the hotel, it could be, but it was something reaaaaallly special to me, once again, the guys make me feel special and send me all the positive vibes in the show. I couldn’t have enjoyed it more! A first surprise to me was Klaus saying to the audience “so everybody, are you there?” it was an introduction to “is there anybody there” which I was so happy to see, as ive never seen it live!
And then after a couple of songs including my very beloved “Coast to Coast”, came that moment, a moment I have always dreamt about and I thought I was going to witness in Munich during the show, but I actually witnessed it through a phone call from my wonderful FOS friends to let me hear “We’ll burn the Sky”…you have no idea how much I love this song and how I started to love it even more when I felt the magic of FOS through it last December! The first notes from we’ll burn the sky were enough for me to recognize my song and remain shocked for few seconds, my hands on my face, silent, before I went crazy, high fiving my friends, who were also screaming… I jumped from happiness, tears in my eyes, shouting my lungs out: WE’LL BURN THE SKY!!!! THEY ARE SIGNING WE’LL BURN THE SKYYYYYYYY”…all my emotions, my feelings, and my thoughts combined brought this fire that was displayed on the big screens behind the boys straight into my heart, so deep in my heart! I think my voice was even louder than Klaus’ during this song
After this, we got The best is yet to come, then Always Somewhere, Holiday….and the regular remaining songs, plus Hit Between the eyes… Matthias did not play his Six String Sting and the pyramid was absent as well, I think they have quit doing it since the Spring of 2012…
During the show, the interaction with the audience was absolutely fantastic, there was a time where we started to scream out lout: “We love you, we love you”….and we had to interrupt Klaus speech, who has been trying to pursue with it but our voices interrupted him again, he smiled, I saw his eyes shining and then he said “we love you too”
one of his funny gestures during the show was trying to bite Matthias shoulder, not so many noticed this but when he did he saw me looking at him and laughed. Someone also threw him a pen, in order to sign a flag he already threw to him earlier and the flag was already next to James…so Klaus took the pen, and tried to tease the guy by trying to ask him, what should I sign? And then he opened it and started to sign in the air, that was funny, and then the fan managed to explain that eh wanted to have the Lebanese flag signed, so Klaus was like ahhhh the flag is yourssss….so he took the pen, out it in the pocket of his shirt and made a sign to him to say that he will not forget to do so, but later… which exactly happened around the end of show, Klaus came with the flag signed and gave it to the fan who was right behind me…at the end, Klaus dedicated WOC to the Middle East and the peace in this region. I left the show with one drumstick, which was caught by Torsten’s assistant, as he was in the area closer to the stage, and he was so nice to look for me behind him and give me the drumstick.Epic Saturday July 27, Concert Day 2 (Byblos)
We go to Byblos on the 2nd day and I remember to take my “Rock your Life” book, just you know, in case!!
and there is already a long queue waiting in the sun, and I got to learn that Rudolf is already there, alone, rehearsing! He went from Beirut to Byblos early by car whereas the rest of the band will join by boat, just like the previous day…I got to take a good place in the queue as the day before, but to my biggest WONDERFUL surprise, the promoter comes to me and says: “Nada, you and Elie, have a special permission from Rudolf personally to meet him backstage and say hi”…well, I guess no need to say how these words fell on me!!! I was like, what? Me? Backstage? When? He said, If you want you can wait for the rest of the band to join by boat, then you go inside, meet Rudolf and leave…at this time, I was so happy, I was in trance… and knew I had to sacrifice the first row, which I was kind of fine with, knowing the reason why I would have to do this, and especially that I have already been there and lived that dream from the perfect spot just the night before…my book is in my bag, yesss ill get to have my book signed!!! I waited there, with all the people, for the band to show up, with some extra wonderful thoughts in my head, I couldn’t believe I was going to see Rudolf now, upon his request…the promoter said, congrats, you have been lobbying for this very well and you deserve it, and here all my thanks go to the german guy who was such a kind person to send Rudolf more messages during his stay in Lebanon and try to get us this great unforgettable experience!
The guys arrive, and I am on the other side facing the queue, on the way that leads to backstage, so the guys have to pass in front of me while making their way there…they go off the boat, salute the excited crowd once again, and I turn on my video cam to take a quick video of them coming in but without interrupting their way as it was impossible at this time. Pawel, James and Matthias pass but don’t see nor hear me (all I said was: hey guys!)….and then, WAIIITTT FOR ITTTTT
…… another very very special moment to me…klaus is coming and im filming, hes smiling to everyone, but then notices me, looks back again and says: “heyyyy!!” I said: hey!!!!....then he goes like “How are you?” and goes his way…
fortunately, I got to keep this wonderful memory by recording it on my phone, and ill upload the video and add the link later for you to see it! Yes, he recognized me, I am the one from the front row, I am the one he was sending his winks and smiles to, I was the one who had that begging look to quietly have a quick photo with him at the hotel….
and now he remembers me… happy moments!
So, with a huge smile on my face, I go with Elie and the promoter backstage, and the tour manager calls Rudolf, and presents us…Rudolf shakes hands with us, smiling, and saying (in German, as Elie and I, both understand German), usually it is not allowed to come here today but you guys are an exception, I got him my book to sign and he first wrote my name wrong and had to correct it, after I spelled to him, N A D A
Rudy is really funny… I thanked him and told him that the book is fantastic or “fantastisch”
and with a satisfied look he says: ohhh thank you!!! I said, I am the one who sent a message to Lars Amend and you shared it on your facebook page…he said: yeah yeah I have seen it! We take only a photo, me,Rudolf, elie and his gf and then Matthias comes in and I could also see Klaus few feet away, but the promoter was really insisting that we cannot just jump into them and start talking and that he is supposed to let us out right now, because we only got permission to see Rudolf and leave…so we could only sit back and stay quiet, and then leave…I was crossing my fingers for Klaus and Matthias to look my way, because I was sure Klaus would have smthn to say and maybe Matthias, if he still remembers me from Munich, well I wasn’t sure if he does until few minutes later… you will see
and suddenly, one band thing was the arrival of Peter, and this is where everyone is confused and nervous, you know..and that’s why mainly we were wanred many times that we cannot stay there as much as we want and tlak to the band members freely…so the promoter urges us to leave and here we are, outside..of course I so much wanted to see Matt and Klaus, but everything happens for a reason, right????
Once outside, I could still see that the fans are still queuing and didn’t get inside yet!!! So I tell the promoter, so now what? Is there a way to get inside faster?? And here’s where he takes us from the backstage to the other side of the venue, I was running running running…I want that spot, again!! I need to see the guys for the last time!! Yessss…only 2 people are standing there!! I go, take my place, front row, and then, in less than a minute, I saw all the crowd coming fast from the outside…how wonderful is that?? what a nice timing!!!! See? I told you, there was a reason why I didn’t stay backstage longer! And maybe I would have stayed without being able to get in contact with the guys in the presence of Peter, especially by the show time getting closer! I take my spot with Elie and then my sister and friend join us, we were there, all together, again!
While waiting, a friend of mine tells me a wonderful story, that he went to the hotel earlier today and met Matthias, and he was wearing a tshirt I got him from MJ guitars in October…after speaking to him, he says: I have very special greetings for you from a Lebanese lady, her name is Nada…Matthias, is like: wait, Nada?...and my friend says: ye, Nada Saliba…Matthias: ahhh yes yes, I think I saw her in the front row yesterday???
so my friends says: yes you did, and you would probably see her there today, she was the one who got me this T-shirt from your shop, and Matthias is like: yes yes!
Lot of things happening that day, so many good news, interactions and contacts involving the boys, I was simply one of the happiest people on earth! On that day, I felt the magic and power of FOS, and I had forgotten to hold my scarf on the first day which made me feel so bad, and one of the reasons I was fighting to get a good spot again is to make that scarf visible to everyone, to Klaus, the boys, the cams!
The show starts, as dynamic as ever, and I wanted to make Curry part of this just like she, along with Nadia, made me cry during the Munich show, and I wanted to surprise her, so I tried to send her few Whatsap msgs before and found a way to know if she is already asleep or going to bed soon, as the show starts at 22:00 and Lebanon and Bulgaria are in the same time zone (yeah I played tricks on her
)…then I decided, the best thing would be to call her as early as possible, and had the idea to call her during the intro, in order for her to feel the same excitement that the Lebanese crowd is feeling at the very very beginning of the show….i think the connection failed afterwards but she could be there for around 22 seconds I think. As per Nadia, I remembered the time difference between us was like 2 or 3 hours, so I did not want to disturb you…it wouldn’t be nice to wake up to a call at midnight or after midnight, even tho it is the Scorps themselves, because it would definitely scare you! I sooo much wanted to call you tho!
it was the very best show I have seen among the 5 I saw in Lebanon… of course, we all here are crazy fans and would all describe Scorpions show the same but no no, this time, there was smthn else going on, the show was unusual, the guys hyper active, it gave me the feeling it is the very last show they are performing…it was epic, breathtaking, emotional, the guys were happy, very happy, playing from the deep of their hearts as usual, admiring the crowd, letting the fans touch the guitars, taking the microphone towards them in repetitive quick actions, as ive never seen Klaus doing before, not even in videos…really guys, it was a show to remember, and, the more the guys were outstanding, the craziest the audience was getting….singing loud, shouting “we love you” non stop!!! I saw Matthias shocked, touched, impressed, with shining eyes!
just check the beginning of this video, it describes the moment perfectly with Klaus and Matthias reactions. in fact it would be great if you can watch the whole song too, Rudolf and Matthias play with enthusiasm with huge smiles on their faces, it's amazing!!! (I also think it was me to whom Matthias is sending that look on minute 5:59!!
) (choose the 1080p HD option)
Then it was the time for me to hold my FOS scarf, next to Elie’s Lebanese flag, and you should see Klaus face when he saw it….!!! He looked at me, at the scarf, I could see his lips saying: FAMILY OF SPIDERS and his hand going through each word, and then he sent me a flying kiss
Everyone around me was surprised, wondering what I could have showed Klaus in order for him to have such a reaction, and someone next to me, who was also there on the first show, tells me: “wow he keeps interacting with you, now what’s next, he takes you on stage????
There was a slight difference between both shows:
- we'll burn the sky replaced by You and I on Saturday's show
- always somewhere replaced by Send me an Angel on Saturday's show
- tease me, please me removed from Saturday's show
It was nice when Klaus introduced “You and I”…he said smthn like: we love to be here, such a beautiful place by the seaside and we have been here for 3 times and we really love to come back each time, it's really amazing, and you know what? it's amazing because of YOUUU! We also got “you and I” in one of the 2011 shows, it seems this has become a special treat to the Lebanese fans…
and another very special moment here: we heard that the Lebanese Fan Club has this song among their favourites on the list, so here is: No one like You, just for you! It was a crazy JOYFUL moment for us,with the guys next to me, my fellow admins in the Lebanese Scorpion fan club, yesss he knows about us and he decided to mention us and dedicate a song for us in the second show…wow!!! We started to hug and high five each other like babies
I mean, that IS SOMETHING!
Are you tired of unforgettable moments, I don’t think so
so here’s one more for you: while giving away guitar picks, and the fans making efforts to get them and jump over each other, Matthias comes to my side, and gives me a look that would have said: yes, I recognized you, hello!! And then puts his pick IN MY HAND!!! I smile at him, and enjoy the rest of the show to the max!!! I couldn’t have had a better show nor asked for more, right???
Ohhh, and at the end, Klaus is shaking hands with us, and while looking at me, I wasn’t sure but I felt like he was pointing at my scarf to take it..well ummm if it wasn’t that scarf, I would have definitely given it to him, even without being sure he wanted it, but ....well its funny and weird, but since I had doubts, I preferred to keep the scarf to me
well, you know how much it means to me, and I wasn’t able to make a quick decision back then…I was so lost and taken by Klaus, his gestures, and trying to figure out what he really meant, at the same time, my heart wanted to keep the scarf, which is finally in my hands after 8 months! I remember my sis telling, Nada he wants it, whats wrong with you? But then my friend says : no, I don’t think he wanted it…..well, at the end, I did not hand him the scarf, and didn’t know if to regret it or not…it was such a confusing thing that I wouldn’t really like to remember…I mean, it’s a honor to give smthn to Klaus (who probably wanted to hold it or give it back I don’t know!)…ok, maybe he did not ask for it in the first place, right? Did I confuse you enough? Ok enough with this awkward part
so the show ends with Rudolf saying: thank youuuuu and Klaus saying: see you soon Lebanoooonnnnnnnn (?????
After the show, I could not go to the hotel, but the same friend with the MJ guitars shirt met Matthias again, and tells him: thank you from me and Nada…and Matthias says: yeah I gave you and Nada 2 picks
…you guys are crazy! And then my friend tells him: maybe we see you in Greece!
At the end, I got to meet my mother and my other sister who saw the show seated, they aren’t crazy fans, they just like few songs of them, and they were really impressed and thought that each one of them has his special way and plays/sings so deep from the heart! My mom was like: “I now understand you!”
Well, that was finally the end of a mind blowing weekend, from which it wasn’t easy at all to get detached and go back to normal life...i felt my heart squeezing on Sunday, I felt that emptiness after the guys left us with so many beautiful memories, remarkable special moments, magic charm and outstanding effect. During this weekend, I felt how beautiful it is to belong to the Family of Spiders and what a lucky person I am to be part of it! We are exceptional fans for an exceptional band which doesnt seem ready to stop doing what it is doing and which still has a lot to give to the fans, after 45 years of devotion and determination…
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU….on Sunday, I had all these thoughts crossing my mind, and I cried from happiness, to have burned the sky of Byblos and to have witnessed that magic of the moment…a moment in a million years…………"everything wants you back again..." yes, everything ....
