Vacation in Germany - Tips? Attractions?

Vacation in Germany - Tips? Attractions?

Unread postby Leb Yellow Butterfly » February 24th, 2012, 7:20 pm

Guys, as I now got my ticket to Munich, and as I am willing to spend a vacation in Germany in October, I would appreciate few tips and help in planning my trip, as I am sure many of you will have answers to my questions.

- First, since the concert is on the 13th, i thought of going to Munich on the weekend before the weekend of 13, so that I will catch up the last days of Oktoberfest. Is Oktoberfest only celebrated in Munich? and what do I need to book for to go there?
- I would want to pay Berlin a visit, but unfortunately it would have to be: Munich - Berlin - and then Munich again (for the concert). What is the best/fastest way to go between Munich and Berlin (train, flight?), and how long does it take? I wouldnt want to waste my time by spending it in trains.
- Any affordable hotels close to bus and trains stations? my vacation would last like 10 days so I am not looking for a luxurious hotel.
- What I am planning to visit so far: Allianz Arena, MJ guitars, BMW, Mercedes, Neuschwanstein Castle, Berlin (the wall and Brandenburg gate)...can you please recommend more touristic attractions and must see's?

I will eventually have additional questions and I hope this topic will be also useful for many of us who are going to the concert from abroad.

Thanks all in advance!

Use this site to help to see if want to travel by train.

I found that taking the train is relaxing and less stress. The main train station in Berlin is almost right downtown same with the station in Munchen.

By plane Munich-Berlin is a bit more than 1 hour, I think 1h10min. Unfortunately I know nothing about Munich, I would know something more if you would ask about Hambug (but then we have another expert for that here anyway).
Btw, a relevant mean joke I've heard:
What's the best thing in Munich?
The A7 to Hamburg!

It's always good to listen to Katharina's advice. I guess meanwhile she has seen more of germany than me :P

But what would you like to see? In general you could spend already your ten days in munich.

For the Oktoberfest: You need nothing special, just go there. But it could become complicated if you want to enter a beer-tent.

one more thing, is there any chance to know the Bundesliga schedule before August? i would love to watch a Bundesliga game on the weekend that is before the concert..I hope there will be one at the Allianz Arena, either on October 14th (the day after the concert) or on the weekend before..

I would say: Yes!

If it is as every year, the schedule will be published here

at the end of june / beginning of july

right after Germany won the UEFA euro 2012

Where to go in Germany ?
Well it depends on many things, first thing how do you get there from your country, I guess by plane, so this put some limits to you, unless you rent a car..... As for me I like Bavaria a lot the nature in the small places is wonderful there, Mittenwald is a wonderful one. It is close to Fussen with its marvelous castles one among others is Neuschwanstein, where Disney has shot a lot of movies. These places are close to Munich, within 100 km if I am not wrong, If you want to see a big city you have to visit Munich with his museums, or Baden Baden, which I adore, can't help being away from its relaxing thermal baths and Spa when I am in that area... Northern part I don't know very good, but Hans does so you can't have better guide for
I like MERCEDES and PORSCHE as well, but SCORPIONS are the best german engine

They are UNBREAKABLE !!!

thanks Elton! I am mainly going to Munich as I have got my ticket for the Scorpions but I think it would be totally worth it to visit Berlin, so I might go by plane Beirut-Berlin, spend few days there and then Munich Oktoborfest, then the concert, and maybe Vienna or Prague..still needs planning but I am gathering information from you guys so that I can start doing it..Moreover nothing is final yet as long as I dont have my shengen visa.

well, there are acceptable prices for the 12th and the 13th but I didnt check closely yet, as I am more concerned about the prior Oktoberfest weekend as you know, which is incredibly expensive..I booked yesterday 3 nights for the last fest weekend, in a hotel where cancellation is allowed, that's because I dont have my visa so I cannot be sure ill be there yet! i could find a Studio Apartment for € 380 (in total of 3 nights), the best I could find so far but I will keep looking and once I find something better (money or location wise), I will book it..
as per the 12th and 13th, I havent booked yet, ill start looking them up very soon and will keep you tuned as agreed :)

I am spending 3 days in Berlin (first day will be October 3, Einheit :) )
please recommend some places for me, for the day (touristic attrcations) and the night (pubs, night life)... and what kind of things are held there during Einheit? what should I expect?

I am also goin to Munich and already have a list of places to visit, but if there are any specific restaurants and any specific type of food that I should try, please tell me..

Thanks!
