What stood out most had to be the energy of the band and the solid leads Matthias played. I’ve read about them “going through the motions” at other shows and last night they were certainly going through the motions! While I wasn’t exactly expecting a laid back approach I didn’t expect to see all that energy. Matthias & Rudy running up and down the platform extension like men many years younger, all the guys were seemingly in constant motion and playing with a passion that you knew was genuine. You can tell the guys still really love playing for the fans and that’s something that takes a good show to an even higher level. It really does make a difference when you know the heart is in it last night I think the fans really appreciated the effort they were getting. That effort was especially apparent in Matthias, he played like a man possessed and while he’s always kicked ass he put in one of the most aggressive performances I’ve seen from him since the Face The Heat tour. With the exception of Make it Real he not only stayed true to the studio version he attacked the songs and brought the leads to a higher level. Song after song rang true, right down to the very end of the concert where he was blistering note after note in a frenzy, reminding me of stuff from his early years. Scorps have always been a guitar oriented band and when the leads are sizzling the band is smoking and they were really on fire last night! If there was one other thing that stood out it was the amazing voice of Klaus, you’re still the best and in Chicago we were still loving you!
My only criticism would be the same I usually have, the length of the set and the setlist itself. I know there are time constraints but I can’t believe it can’t be managed in order to produce a 2+ hour show. With a history so long and discography so rich a 90 minute show doesn’t really do the band or the fans justice. Neither does the setlist, there was nothing from the Uli years and nothing from a few Matthias era albums as well. Also, near the end of the show a thunderstorm was in the air above the stadium and they only played No One Like You & RYLAH for the encore, skipping Still Loving You. I don’t blame the band for that though, while I definitely appreciate a good storm
I did have the pleasure of meeting up with Mary (Skorpsfan1), Billy Mac and Billy Mac’s friend (sorry I forgot your name) as well as a few other people. It was good to see you all again and maybe one day we’ll all meet up again for another show if we’re so lucky. As for the band I want to thank them for all the great years of music you’ve enriched my life with and all the great performances you’ve treated me to, including last night’s show which will go down as another great time I had watching my favorite band of so many years. Thanks for the memories, keep on rocking as long as the desire and ability is there…it definitely was last night!
