Los Angeles, Staples Center June 22, 2012SCORPIONS and TESLA
What a fanta-STING day and night!! I got to the venue about 2pm to head over to the Yardhouse for lunch and to meet some F.O.S.'ers. I ran into P who was waiting to score tickets once they released the left overs... She did well, Front Row, Face Value. I cannot do that as I MUST have a ticket in my hand before going to the show.
She and I had some lunch and a couple cocktails waiting for others to arrive. I had to run to Staples to check on something and when I returned to the Yardhouse I ran into Kathleen, Patty, Sean, Sue, Dan, Scorplady,Delphine and other F.O.S.ers who I cannot remember names, apologies!! We took a few pics, finished up drinks by 6:30 we were heading over to Staples.
I lost everyone exiting the bar as I ran into a friend Adrian Galysh http://www.adriangalysh.com/ Great guitar player and often jams with Uli when he tours CA. Then I ran into Jamie who drums for Mandy Lion/ WWIII http://www.mandylionwwiii.com/. Check those sites out! So, I'm headed over to find some friends and a guy stops me and asks about my shirt ( wore my home made rhinestone GOT SCORPS? shirt) and if they could interview me for a German Film company....sure why not. As I was being photographed, all my Scorps tatts, a camera zooming in my face, being asked question after question and more and more people are staring at me... I was looking out trying to find a familiar face to look at, I got so nervous at one point I couldn't remember the title of Sting in the Tail.... all in all it went well and I will post links and photos when I get the email from DOK.
I've been unemployed since Feb. so I had to buy a ticket that was in my budget, which of course meant nosebleed... so I finally go up to my seat in sec. 301 row 15, which I can't see or find so I plopped down in row 8. Caught the last two songs from Tesla, they sounded good, just seen them so many times it wasn't imperitive I saw them again. After their set I knew there was a half hour break and I really didn't want to sit there, so went outside on the balcony and ran into SNOIPROCS again, we were chatting with the table next to us and other fans. Well these guys were asking how could I be sitting alone, such a big Scorps fan, with such a lousy seat....explained the situation and before you knew it I had 6 new brothers and a trip down to section 103 row 3. OMGOSH how awesome were those guys!! So, in row 3, right stage, so excited to be much closer and around some cool, sweet rockers!!! In this area too I was able to see my crew friends while they worked and M ran off for a bit and returned with some guitar plecks. I gave the extra Pawel pick (new not purple, and has name on it) to one of the guys as a thanks for the seat! I know it comes no where close but I think I made his day as much as he made mine!! I also saw that Matthias has new plecs. Nice, I will be on the lookout for one of those!!
The show was great, the crowd was 'kin on fire!!! LOUD LOUD LOUD!!! They were tuned down for several songs, as usual but it just felt like it was lower...if that makes any sense. Matthias had some issues and had to switch guitars, Klaus vocals were great but he just can't hit those high ones like he used to, I don't expect him to either. He cracked a couple times but I know touring, AC, weather etc. have lots to do with how the vocals sound. I was very happy. My only complaint is that they didn't go right stage very much and if they did it was so so very brief. I think Matthias only came over once, could be twice. They also do not go from the front catwalk back to the center stage and do goodnights..... Makes a great photo op for those who don't have front center catwalk tix. Over all I was very pleased with the show, although it went by waaaaaaay to fast.
They were filming left stage so a lot of time was spent over there. I can only hope the next documentary or tour film features much more backstage fun, fan interviews and photos. We all know they certainly have enough unreleased and new material to take stock footage from.
For those going to the upcoming shows have a freakin blast! For those friends in So. Cal. reading this : See you at MAIDEN!!
