Translations of Scorpions' songs.

Unread postby MrFullspoon » June 23rd, 2012, 10:25 am

Hi everybody! :D
First of all, I'm French and I study English, and I'm an absolute Scorpions fan. I've planned to translate every song they made into French, but I've some problems with catching the meaning of some songs. If you could help me by explaining songs I have problems with, it'd be very nice :D. The first song that's a problem is "Alien Nation". I can't figure exactly what it is about. Many french websites have translated it in a very basic way, taking for granted that "alien" had to do with ETs... What do you think this song means?
Thank you in advance, more songs will be added then :).
Bye !

as for city of angels .. they are referring to Berlin and La

But really if you wait til the end of November all of the songs will be in French

"alien" in this context means, strange, foreign, hostile, opposition...as in the government like Tom said.

Nooo, Tom is a joker. He was being sarcastic, is what we call it!!

But the meaning they were trying to get was about the government being evil and hostile. As far as "city of angels" I didn't know Berlin was called that too. L.A. and Bangkok was all I knew.

Actually i wasnt being funny
By the time Amend is finished milking France of every euro with so many shows in one country :|
Everyone in France should know at least one repetitive setlist word by word in french by the end of November.
That will help him out at least with some songs

Btw .. did i say milking :?: where have i heard that phrase

Well truth and sarcasm can go hand in hand. Hand in hand, does that have anything to do with milking? hmmm Or it could be changed to bilking, yeah? :P

Really, thank you ! Some songs from "Lonesome Crow" are quite obscure too, I don't know if they're meant to be so, but I can't catch it

A lot of songs from the 70's were what we called psychedelic rock with obscure lyrics. It was the thing then to make the lyrics sound like you were on acid and most of them sounded that way! Read the "talking" part of Nights In White Satin or listen to White Room. Tons of songs back then made no sense!! ha

As far as x-rock, I have never heard that term!

Thank you very much ! I checked on the web and didn't get information... Concerning "roock you like a hurricane", how do you understand "give her inches"? Is it an expression or does it have to be taken litteraly, meaning "centimeters"?

Thanks !

I was exercising to the album Animal Magnetism at the gym tonite and Hold Me Tight came on, ooooo do I love that song. It's so raw and powerful and Klaus makes me weak....anyyyywaaaayyyy, it made me think of this topic. Can anyone tell me WHY they named this song this title when 1. that phrase isn't even uttered in the song 2. it certainly ain't nothing about holding anybody tight. lol Soooo can anyone explain it to me?

Also, have you noticed all the naughty songs on this album and then Klaus explains it away with Only A Man??? LOLOL that just struck me funny tonite! :P He, I mean they, used to be such naughty bad boys!! Okay, I'm done!!
