I'm new here, just have a couple questions

Unread postby GripShift » June 10th, 2012, 9:46 pm

Wow, I couldn't figure out how to post a forum, then I realized the new topic button wasn't showing up! (After the 13th refresh it did)
So I'm GripShift, I just joined here, and am looking forward to meeting some of you. I love hearing about the Final Sting tour and how impressed you all were, I'm real put out that I won't get to see them before they retire (their closest concert to me is over 1000 miles away) but listening to you guys say how awesome the shows were makes up for it.
Anyway, I joined so that maybe I could get a few of my questions answered, and I know they've been asked probably a million times before, so I'm sorry about that. One of them was if the Scorpions originally started making music in German or English, because I've been told differently by a few people.
Also wondered what the song Alien Nation was about, you know how 'song meaning' sites are, every one of them has a different answer
Another one is just about touring, how it feels to go away from home for years at a time.
Third is just a personal question about how the band feels (especially Rudolf) about starting a band that today has sold millions of albums and has millions of fans and millions of dollars. When you look back and realize that something you started has grown so huge because of you... I can't begin to imagine how great that feels.
And the last wasn't a question, but a thank you to the person who runs this site. It must be time consuming to keep this running, but thank you for the effort and the hours that you put in.

Sorry if there was a seperate forum for that, but thanks for reading anyway, and looking forward to reading the various answers and hellos from other Scorpions fans.

Welcome aboard, GripShift! :)

Well, I'm no expert about this, but as what I've known, they decided to compose their songs in English so that those songs would be more easily recognized by foreign audience, that's why we can see ever since their debut album (Lonesome Crow), all songs' lyrics are composed in English. Actually they [the lyrics] are a bit simple, but that's no problem as they've been improving a great deal.

It's up to you to interpret a song, because it depends on your experiences, feelings and may intrinsic + extrinsic catalysts. As for me, when listen Alien Nation I automatically think of The Terminator

About how they look at their huge success, that's totally beyond me :)

Hope this help, and have some fun. See you around!

I'm not the only one! I think of Terminator too, because my dad was always obsessed with it. But I was wondering if it's like saying beware of a certain type of religion, because that's what I first thought of. Thanks for your input though, I appreciate the welcome :)

Well, let's see…. I feel a bit out of place because I'm younger than I think most of you are (I'm almost 16) I live near Seattle, which is very far away from any of the Scorpions concerts (sadness), I've known a lot of their songs for some time, but never really paid attention to whose songs they were. I wanted to get one of their songs (Rock You Like a Hurricane) on my Ipod, but I didn't have any Itunes cash, so I asked my grandpa if I could get it from him because he has all those CD's. He gave me the whole CD called Bad For Good, and I started listening to more of the songs, and I'm like "Hey, I know some of these!" So after awhile I wanted to know more about the Scorpions, and I looked up their concert dates... Not happy. 1000 miles away is their nearest concert to me that I might ever be able to make (Seattle to LA). So I figured that since I'd never get to see them in concert, I could join the site and see from other people how the concerts were, and how they came to know the Scorpions, and maybe eventually get to talk to someone who knows the band and ask them a few things. And maybe if I make a million dollars, I can actually meet them one day.

My computer doesn't work with YouTube, it only shows up as blank white, so if u could list the names of the songs that would be great :)
And hmmm.... I know Metallica a little bit, I've heard of Avenged Sevenfold, I like Linkin Park, and that's all that I know from that list.

Let's see what's on my Ipod.... Most of these you've most likely never heard of. There's Aerosmith and the Afters and Avril Lavigne and Bebo Norman and Beck and Blake Lewis and Bowling for Soup and C418 and Cartel and Coldplay and Dave Matthews Band and Def Leppard (My all time favorites) and Evanescence and the Fray and Hawk Nelson and Incubus and Jars of Clay and Maroon 5 and Mat Kearney and Newsboys and Nickelback and Nirvana and OneRepublic and Owl City and Peter Furler and Phoenix and Scorpions (duh) and Seether and Shawn McDonald and Switchfoot and INXS. Oh my, what a list. :P

Welcome aboard Grip Shift.. oh could you please tell us your real name, it would be a bit more convenient. I'm Galya btw..

I'm so sorry that the nearest city where the concert will be is so far from your place. I live in the middle of Russia, but still Scorps have been to my city many times. I've only seen them twice, but it was fantastic. Like any other rock concert.
Actually Scorps were the first rock band I ever heard. Some 10 years ago my dad brought home a CD with all their albums from Lonesome Crow to Moment of Glory. He did it so that I could practice in English by listening songs. Then my mum told me she had Blackout on a cassette once.. That's how I discovered rock music. 8) And most of the bands I listen to now are connected to Scorps in one way or the other. For example, Edguy were opening for the Scorps in their German leg of the tour 2 years ago. In 2009 Scorps were on the Russian Monsters of Rock tour along with Alice Cooper and Kingdom Come. One of the forum members introduced me to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Once I had to exchange tickets to a cancelled Scorps concert for the Rainbow.. :)
Now, let me look at my playlist.. Right now I'm listening to some oldies from Bon Jovi, Axxis, the Clash, Led Zep and the last album of Europe. I have Metallica among my favourites next to Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and Uriah Heep.

Btw, have you been to any rock concerts? :)

PS: songs posted by Adriana

Crazy Lixx - Death Row
EDGUY - Ministry Of Saints (I adore this..)
Sonata Arctica - FullMoon
ac dc live argentina dvd 1. Rock N Roll Train
Def Leppard - Hysteria (hell, I love that one!)

PPS: love your avatar

Ty :) My real name is Meghan, but I don't like people using it much >.< I prefer nicknames. And I LOVE Hysteria, it's one of my favorites. Bon Jovi is awesome too, though I haven't listened to a lot of their stuff since 2007. I should get back into that, shouldn't I? And yes, diversity is something that makes my music collection unique, I have hard rock and electronic and alternitive and all that stuff, I don't typically stick to one genre.
And to DeepAndDark (or Galya), I think cassettes are a great way to listen to older music, my older brother has a bunch from 9 Inch Nails, but I don't like them much. My grandpa has a whole lot of records (the huge kind) of bands like Styx and AC-DC. Those are fun too, but I don't have a machine to play them, I wish I did. And lucky you've been to the Scorpions concerts, they have one on the 22nd in LA that I would die to go to but it's just too far from Seattle. And if your base language isn't in English, what is it? Russian? Cuz it says thats where your location is. I think being English is actually a disadvantage because you have to learn another language and most are harder. If you start out sopeaking a different language and only have to learn English, it seems a lot easier to me. I really wanted to take German next year for language, but I couldn't, so I think I have to take Spanish :( I'd much rather take German. And to answer your last question, no I've never been to a rock concert, all the more reason I wanted to go see the Scorpions. But I'll get other chances with other bands I guess. I really want to see Def Leppard before they put out the flame, I've adored them since I was little.
