UEFA Euro 2012

as Nada said, it's not to early to open a thread for the upcoming tournament. So who will watch the matches, which team will you follow and what do you think which team will win?

I follow of course germany. And who will win? In my eyes the top favourites are spain, netherlands and germany. And I am curious how good italy and france recovered from the bad tournament in south africa.

Here's a link of what the coaches say who will win the euro:

Hans, apparently we do agree on most of the points when it comes to football..
- I will try to watch as much games as possible, even the group stage games in this euro are very exciting..
- I will be definitely supporting Germany, I am a fan of the Mannschaft since I was 6, and that was when they won the WC 90.
- the top favourites in my opinion are Germany, Spain, Netherlands...and if Germany doesnt win this Euro, I hope the Netherlands would (yeah I know the dutch are the germans biggest rivals, but I love the way they play and they are my 2nd favourite team).
- I didnt really get the chance to watch Italy many times yet but I must also admit that the French are strongly recovering...I am curious about Portugal, I havent seen them playing for some time...they will be the first team Germany will face!

In this point I do not agree with you. Ok, they won against germany in february, but when you analyze this match you can clearly see that this was not a big win for france. I should have been warned before the match, when Jogi Löw said that it doesn't really matter how this match will end. When he says things like this he tries things out and germany plays bad. It had been the same last year when germany played against australia, poland or ucraine. Mr. Löw always says he needs matches like this to form the team.
It had been different with the friendlies against brazil or the netherlands. The german football fans wouldn't accept when he would test in these matches.
And concerning Löw was testing in the match against france the german team had too many chances to score, especially in the first half, even the french team played with nearly 8 players in the defense (in german we say to it 'Beton anrühren'). Ok, in the second half Löw changed the formation once more and the german players ran around like hen in a cot. No wonder france was the better team.

So, I do not see the french team recovering. They need luck to pass the group stage in the euro 2012

Hans, yeah it was definitely not because of that game against Germany, i wouldnt make it as a reference to judge on performances, but I see them a bit better, even though I agree, they will be facing difficulties in the first round...

Wilhelm, the best final for me would be Germany-Holland as well ...

I say in group D england and sweden will make it to the knockout stage. Not france. I say this because of the matches in the qualification.

And for the final / semifinal: I predict a semi-final spain-netherlands and I hope for a semi-final germany - italy

Then we'll see who is waiting for germany in the final

I know it's a bit early, but I just cannot wait 'tl the 8th of june. Which matches are you looking forward to? Besides of Netherlands - Germany this is the one I am waiting for.

And here something for the Germany supporters.

http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/news/ ... 20353.html

that's great: Marco Reus will probably be starter. Well done Mr. Löw! Skip as many Bayern players as possible, as Uli Hoeness has nothing better to do than scheduling a Bayern München - Netherlands match in the middle of the preparation!

I just can't wait for it to begin!!

I will try to follow as many matches as possible (I love making my own table and seeing which team goes further, how many points it gets, etc.).

And as always, I'm for Germany. :)

just a question: Here in Germany is a big discussion about the upcoming tournament especially in the Ukraine. Some or better said a lot of politicians from nearly all parties say that the human rights of the former prime minister, Mrs. Timoschenko, get hurt and so they plan to boycot the Euro 2012.

My question now is, if this discussion is only in Germany?

And before you get me wrong: I do not accuse the Ukraine of hurting human rights (I simply don't know enough of what is going in the Ukraine), I simply want to know if this discussion exists in other countries outside Germany.

uhm...in Italy there's a discussion about the "animal rights"........cause it seems that in Ukraina many "stray-dogs" (is it english word right?) are killed in the streets from the dog-cathers, instead of to be taken in dog pounds......

....nothing else....

Hi Hans,
Here, in Poland, people (politicians) only comment on the Germans' words about boycott. They're telling that this attitude is a misunderstanding. Right in this moment I'm reading what exactly our ministry of foreign affairs tells.

Poland have the same opinion about Timoschenko and human rights in Ukraine what Germany (I know about it only what everybody may know). Nonetheless our government is very reserved, like always, they can't be firm

I also heard that Italy is going to boycott Euro.

If you wanna know my feelings - this situation is not nice, listening to our ministers is not nice at all, too.
I think that human rights are more important than football, really. I agree with Norbert Roettgen.
Now don't get me wrong, please(!), but I never understood why we organise it with Ukraine that doesn't deserve it. Not respectable citizens(!!!), but the president who wants to divert Europe's attention from Timoschenko and so on.

And please don't connect Ukraine with Poland in this matter, Poland is a democratic country, here such things would never happen, we also criticize Ukrainian government!

Hi Adrian,

yes, that was another affair that was discussed here in Germany, too.

Hi Anna,

absolutely no problem, I won't mix up Poland with the Ukraine. And concerning the Ukraine I simply don't know what is going on there. The only thing I know is that a really nice FOSer is living there (who still owes me 1 beer) and the Klitschkos are living here in Hamburg.

But I'm still confused that the sports shall suffer from what the politicians are not able of doing.
