Welcome aboard, Juanita!
So... You've been reading this forum for a year. I guess you already know most of us and there's no need to explain for example why I may be referred to as "Dip and Duck".

You don't need to be sorry about it. It happened at one topic in this section, and that topic froze on the second page long time ago. Here is the link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=30338#p766741
It all started with my innocent comment about altering other people's names.

Hey! Are you busy at school? Is that why we don't see you that often? :)
Come, tell us more about yourself.
How long have you been studying English?
What are your hobbies?

Hmm about myself... Well I've been studying English since I was about 4 but I still make some mistakes. My hobbies? I like to play guitar, watch movies, go out with my friends and listen to music :D
I'll try to be here more often

It's impossible to speak a language perfectly when you don't live in the environment of the language you're learning. And I believe that making mistakes is very natural. Moreover, they are desirable, as we learn something new making mistakes. Me, I've been studying English for the last 11.5 years, and I've been violently in love with it for the last 1.5 years. If it wasn't for my teacher, I would never start reading British and American classic literature... I particularly enjoyed reading "Pride and Prejudice", "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" and "A Clockwork Orange".

I can talk for hours about movies. :D Just to name a few of my favourite directors: Jim Jarmusch, Lars von Trier, Vim Wenders, Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, Takeshi Kitano, about a dozen of russian directors and more... When I meet my only school friend that I keep in touch with, we can't stop discussing last films we've seen. Interesting thing is that she has more favourite actors, while I point out directors. :)

Btw, I was always amused hearing somebody say his hobby was hanging out with friends. Indeed, it's so funny. If friends are a hobby, like a sport can be a hobby, then can you take up a friend? Excuse me my being a smart a$$.

Well I read a lot in english and all the songs in my Ipod are in english so I know a lot of words but I still have many grammar mistakes. Whenever I go to The States I struggle to understand what they are trying to say to me! People talk so fast and I just stand there nodding wondering what in the world they are saying

If I had to choose a favorite director it would be Martin Scorsese. I really don't know anything about directors or actors but I like to watch movies :D I've been watching a lot of "old" movies lately (my generation thinks the '60s are old) but lately I've been watching a lot of music documentaries

OMG you got me  I never thought about that!!

Maybe the accent is the real problem, not the speed. Do you often go to the US?
Alas! I've never travelled abroad, only in my country!

I don't think it is the accent, I think it's the fluency which makes it fast. My teachers are all colombian so we are not used to fluent english.
Well some members of my family live there so I travel whenever we have enough money

That's exactly why I listen to Euronews and BBC from time to time. I love hearing British English. Furthermore, it helps to keep up with news, especially in economics. :)
