What a night ! I'm sorry for you Ben.
Did the burning truck was still on the edge of the way 50km before Bordeaux ?
When I drove in this area in the night, I was followed the Airbus (A380) convoy who came back from Toulouse to Langon (10km fom my homtonw) empty. I love drive at 20km/h on the motorway .....

So, the show was incredible, the band looked like very enjoyed of the audience, Matthias was "crazy".
Fortunately today is off because I'm completly dead, all my complet body is painfull.

About the setlist (I know some people want to know), the same than Toulon.

I hope the show tomorrow in Bordeaux will be as great as Toulon and Toulouse. But the Bordeaux audience is renowned to be very difficult (to not say bad).

See you tomorrow

Hi Del,

I don't know if I remember correctly: does Roselyne live in Bordeaux?
If she does, are you meeting at the show?
My greetings, and kisses to her.

Hi Gabi!
unfortuatly not, she lives in Clermont-Ferrand. It was me before leave to go at the french/swiss border.
I won't see Roselyn on this tour, she cannot come, even Marielle, they are too busy. I hope next year.

Hello Bordeaux
looks like there´s another sunny day ahead, a bit chilly this morning but sunset is close to come.
Load in at Patinoire started 06:30am with the motors, the trusses and the most important thing of all on tour, the catering.
Next step is the sound system and after this we are going to unload the backline and video.
Some fans asked me at recent venues how we make it to setup and tare down the stage within a few hrs, it´s simple hard work for each department, all of the crew are experts in what they are doing and we work hand in hand to built a stage. In all the years I am in this biz I never heard one saying. "This is not my job" so if ever one has a problem or a question there is somebody who has a solution, regardless which department he belongs to. We always try be be nice and polite to each other even sometimes it´s not easy to keep cool, There are days where the crew found just three/four hrs of sleep whilst the bus was rolling to the next gig. Than a quick shower and a strong coffee helps to get fit for the next 18 hrs of work to run another show.
So catering is a real important thing on tour as well as little things like proper bathrooms and showers. Local promoters always provide fresh towels for us, they offer a person (we call this person "runner") with a van to go shopping for the catering etc. It is like a circus we travel around to the various cities and You fans enjoy a show at nite not knowing what has to be done months before. Hotels and flights have to be booked, vans, cars and the drivers have to be ordered etc.

I remember a show when I was on the 25Live Tour with George Michael in 2006 when a local newspaper wrote a day before the show:

George Michael is coming to town. He has got a new fetish! He ordered 400 towels!!!

The reporter just heard about the request of the 400 towels and made a fetish story about it. It was written the way that all these towels are for personal use of George Michael. Some of You might know George Michael is gay and the media quite often tries to make a story of it. When I read this story about the towels I checked if this certain reporter is on the media guest list and when he appeared backstage making himself much important the first I did was giving him a towel and asked him to use the bathroom. He was surpirsed about this offer and asked me why I do it. I said, "look You twatt, even for a road crew it is a habit to wash ourselves daily and we love to use a fresh towel after showering, probably You do this too at home,so why for *** sake do You write such a *** about a fetish when the management is requesting towels??? We are more than 200 people on tour and it is obvious that these 400 towels are for the entire cast and crew." I said that in presence of the management and George Michael himself so the skin of the reporter changed colour into red really fast and he left the house immediatley.

What I am trying to explain is, what ever You fans might read in magazines or newspapers, first view can be strange but everything we ask has got a reason. It´s just to make a tour, just to setup a stage to entertain the fans but also gives a lot of people work to earn money to live

Oh Ben haha, well done with that idiot!
He just got that he deserved.
I also have many negative experiences about journalists' stupidities, from a total differ aspect as stars have of course, but they can cause more damages than help in our special situation.

Seriously, I beyond admire the work of the Crewpions, and all crews.
I know that I couldn't do this kinda lifestile, would exhaust in a short time.
Thanks for sharing these special feedbacks with us Ben.

Livin life on the road expects a lot of idealism, You must have something like a gypsy living out of suit cases sleeping in narrow bunks the one day, the other day may be have a kip for just a few minutes on top of a hard flight case at the venue and the next day You are resident in a luxury hotel for a night. Sometimes when playing in small old clubs there is no bathroom or even a sink with just cold water so You´ve gotta share one or two day rooms in a hotel with 20 ppl cast and crew. Sometimes You hang on airports waiting for delyed flights or in endless queues at borders.
Finally after a tour we are always happy comin home but for me it is like when I am home for a few weeks I get a feeling that I have to move again, have to go back on the road to places I´ve been before ant those I never was. Is there a name for it? Hope Rudolf Schenker isn´t angry with me if I use the title of his book cuz for me that´s the way I Rock my life.

Am I Crazy??
No doubt about it, I am!!!

Thank you so much Ben for your interesting posts! I really enjoy reading them! :)
And I just want to express to you my respect - cause I understand that you ( and other sCREWpions) have a very responsible work, where you just must work as one team to make everything work perfect so that we, fans, can have fun. And yes, what is an entertainment for us, for you is a hard, sometimes even dangerous, work, and I'm taking my hat off before you and saying THANK YOU ALL for it !
Yep, unfortunately there are unscrupulous journalists who care only about bringing to their newspaper another sensation, and they don't bother to check the details and the correctness if the info...so i prefer not to trust to what is written in the newspapers\magazines.
And yeah.. you should be really crazy and in love with your work to live in such a schedule, but it's avery interesting work - cause it gives you so many possibilities - you can see the whole world, meet interesting people on the way..get so many impressions... so I think it worth it! :)

Have a great show tonight and I'm waiting for your further interesting reports :)
Best wishes, Nadya

Show finished, Quite good compare to the others (large better than Lyon) and Very good compare to the Bordeaux audience renowed !!!!

I have to thanx One million time Ben for his help !! (F****** Security/Organisation of S*** !!!!!!!!!!!      )

To tell you how much the security was very stupid and just a band of As*****. At the end I saw a poster on a wall closed of the exit door, I wanted to take it but there was a security guy there just survey that nobody take the poster. Just a simple promo poster after the show.......
I never seen that before. And it's just an example, because I cannot explain you in english all what's happend this evening.
I can just once again thanx Ben for his help. He save my hometown show.

I was with my 2 goddauthers (15 and 11 years old), they are very happy, the smile until the hears :D . Klaus and Matthias were very smiling when they saw the youngest rocks all the show. It was very funny.

For me, it's 2 days off. See you in Tours :)

Vov Del!
You took your Goddaughters with yourself to introduce Scorpions' music to them, it is fantastic, and I am not surprised of Klaus, and Matthias' kind reaction at all.

Uh, I couldn't take my 18-year-old niece, and 13-year-old nephew to any Scorps show.
I have introduced their music to them, but unfortunately I couldn't infect them.
They rather support those fashionable "falling stars", whom nobody will mention for a few years.

A rainy night on a lonesome motorway in south of France, that´s what I would entitle the story of the past 7 hrs when driving from Bordeaux to Montpellier
Different to Bordeaux where the load in dock and acces to it was very tight and there was less space to park all trucks and busses we just arrived at Montpellier and here there´s lot of space so we can get all trucks almost directly to the stage. This is a big advantage cuz today the stage has to be ready at 4pm for doors.
The Scorpions are heading stage 7pm so we are missing two hours of our regular schedule to setup the stage. Fortunately after the passed five shows we are in routine, french PA and Lighting crew are working their arses off as well as the sCREWpions

@Del, it was my pleasure to help You a little bit, most of the securities and hostesses seemed to be at the venue just to wear their nice costumes and security vests. The only thing they could say was:
No pas possible, and I am sure that someone in their childhood has forgotten to teach them how to say: "Je suis desolée" or "I am sorry"
Ridiculous when a 19 year old security boy wants to tell me how to reverse a truck into a loading dock. It is not only in Bordeaux like this, I had lots of venues with those useless "clothes racks" Best to deal with them is simply ignoring them cuz any kind of discussion or arguments are endless but pointless. Bordeaux last nite was an exception cuz all of the securities have been nothing but "clothes racks"

So here´s to You again Del, do me a favour please; whenever Your grand-daughters get the idea to become a truck driver in the music biz, do everything to avoid it!!! Other wise they will have a situation like last nite almost every week

Some of You asked me how I became a truck driver in this biz, and thats a very long story
I´d like to explain how my first touch with this "big Biz" was.

about 2000 years ago when I was 17 I was a die hard fan of the band Genesis and I am still until today
They played a show in Paris and I dreamed about to go there but couldn´t afford the ticket, i just had the cash for the train tix from Germany to Paris. I traveled to Paris with no money in my pocket just hoping to find a way to get into the venue for free and if not just to have a quick look to the band. These days the security system was not that strict like today so it was no problem to get to the area where the trucks and busses was parked. I was hangin around then a guy came around asking me what I am doin there. I told him that I would love to seee the show or even to meet and greet the band. The guy, he was the one of the truck drivers of Genesis just said if this is my only "problem"and I said yes, He said,
"Boy You look like You´re freezing out here in the cold and it seems you didn´t eat anything at all today so get the *** inside eat something in catering. Than I take You inside the venue and You watch the show!"

The whitest wall on planet did not shine brighter than the paleness of my face that moment.

The show was breathtaking, I was in front row and I could see Tony Bank´s fingers flying over the keyboards and Phil Collins was just inches in front of me when sinin´"Supper´s ready" The show was one of the recordings for the album "Seconds Out" and if You might listen very carefully to this album You can hear me scream and yell on it
This was first time I thought about getting a truck driver or any other kind of a touring crew member. It took a few more years with different jobs before I started being a truck driver in the tour biz but finally today I am

The name of the Genesis truck driver was Mickey Chester, I met him 31 years later on the Barbra Streisand tour when he was lead driver and I had the rigging truck in a fleet of total 26 Streisand trucks. He didn´t remember the story from Paris 1976 but I will never forget the first big show I´ve seen as well I´ll never forget my "Paris hero" Mickey.

Mickey passed away last year so let me dedicate this post to him
R.I.P Mickey, we miss You!!!

Yeah, that was so kind of Mickey Chester to let you warm up, eat smth and to see the show instead of kicking you out, he was a really man with a big heart...besides, thanks to him you decided to become a truck driver ... R.I.P. Mickey...
And, yep,, regarding Rudolf's book - the destiny always gives you signs, all you need is just understand them to choose the right way... so you've made your choice, and I think you've made it right!
Thanks once again!
Best wishes, Nadya
