Graspop - Friday 24/06 - Part 2: Scorpions
Disclaimer: some of the footage I linked is from other concerts, I might replace some links if the ones from Graspop are appearing on utube.
After Volbeat had finished, many people left the front and I managed to get in the 3rd row, just behind Jess and Ron. Jantje was there as well and he had brought a lot of friends. So, western-flemish was the language behind the barriers.

Suddenly Kristof and Joanne were
there as well, no idea how they had managed to fight themselves a way so much to the front, since they had only arrived very late. Philip came to the front a little bit later, because he first wanted to make sure
not to become thirsty and he managed only to get in the 5th or 6th row.
While waiting we could hear and see the
soundcheck. I don't know all the names of all the people surrounding the band by heart but I did recognise Ingo. I find that quite an achievement of myself, that now not only I can keep the band members out of each other but even recognise other people as well.
But there were other more professional fans there that can add such valuable missing information about who was to be seen during the soundcheck etc.
As always during concerts I got ready to do some broadcasting to the usual and less usual backoffices. I wanted to send the
opening to my
manager but I'm not sure she received it properly. Because my radio station was running
low on batteries, I had to be very selective with the choice of the songs and the duration of the different broadcasts. So it wasn't really a world wide live broadcast this time.
The second song with a positive message was transmitted to a country in the
south of Europe.
I think they are live at their best nowadays in the somewhat slower heavy songs like
The Zoo. So that one was broadcasted
as well. I had to stop broadcasting
shortly after that because of dead battery.
Of course the more
rock &
roll ones are still very enjoyable but I think the slower ones fit them better. It's easy to be a bandwagon type kind of fan like me. You can have all kinds of totally unprofessional opinions like this.

The "rockers" on SITT have also something a bit slower in them. A pity they don't play some more of those. And some more rarely played stuff. I did see Priest the next day in a not-original-at-all-anymore-line-up. And they played some very old and
rare songs, combined with
the ones everybody wants to hear and where they are really good at. And it was a helluvashow.
Of course Scorps always have been, and still are, very good in the
ballads, but it was a good decision to adapt the
setlist and play only 2 ballads on this metal festival.
I personally found Klaus voice not so good as in other concerts I have been to, especially in the more rocker songs (so in most songs actually). About the level-of-jumping-around on stage and how they looked I don't really have an opinion. I never really pay much attention to such things. That's more something for girls. Jess???
But I did like very much the version of Dynamite they did. It has a
part in it after the solo, that I really like, and you could hear it much better than the other times I heard them play the song. I don't suppose it was a longer version then usually, I hope Kristof or Ron can comment on that but I really liked how they played it.
When the show was over, we wanted to
hang out at the festival ground a bit, and help to increase the sales of the different beer and food stands, but they were closing most of the stands already. Strange that they were not staying open longer, to try to beat a bit of money out of us. Like Asterix would say "strange people, those Limburgers".
Unlike real professional festival visitors, I didn't stay there to overnight, but drove back home, and came back the day after. I have to say the Saturday I found by far the best of the 2 days I have been, even without Ozzy (who was sick with laryngitis). Whitesnake and Priest were both really good. But I don't want to get too far off-topic by writing too much about the Saturday.
