I can speak only for germany, of course. But concerning germany, Scott is absolutely right. Remember the interview Klaus gave on Deutsche Welle. There he said:

With the huge success in the U.S. even the germans noticed the band and they had the chance to play big concerts even in germany

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26932&start=45

I remember when I saw them for the first time on german TV. Now I found out it was in 1984 at the german TV Show 'Formel Eins'. And there the announcer said 'Hey look, there's a german band, succesful in the U.S. and we nearly don't know them'.

Just to be complete: I saw them already before on TV in the 70s in the german show 'PopRock', but before I came to this forum here I didn't know that this band has been the Scorpions. That means - if you read between the lines - I love their music beginning with the Matthias Jabs era

Well said Hans.... It was Matthias that turned the Scorpions into a success all around the world..

I don't know if it was because of Matthias, but one thing is obvious - with Matthias the music style changed (maybe the reason for it was that Uli left the band)

This is exactly what myself, Monica,Ted,Drew,Thomas and Rudiray have been saying for years..without the support of North America from 1979-1991. The Scorpions would not be here today...we were the fans that put the Scorpions on the map all around the world. Before they toured America in 1979 they were just a European band that was going no where except Japan. From 1979-1991 the Scorpions were averaging 50 to 100 shows a year in our country. We were buying their albums helping them sell out arenas and stadiums. They were on MTV all day long. They were on radio stations doing interviews. There wasn't a place you could go without hearing the Scorpions. They were the biggest band on the planet during that period. They were outselling AC/DC,Kiss,Motley Crue,Aerosmith,Van Halen,Rush, Judas Priest,Iron Maiden just to name a few. In 1988 they blew Van Halen off the stage everynight during the Monsters of rock. No band could touch them live!!!!

SCORPIONS.. i know it's 2009 but all of those bands i listed above are touring our country and selling out arenas..so it can happen again just give us a chance..that is all we are asking...[/quote]

Pity enough never saw them in the 80',the first time only in 1993!I guess in the 80' no stage was big enough  i only started to knew them just after Savage Amusement, just before the release of Crazy World!
When i watch the World Wide Live tape ,i really wish i was 5 years older!...Or had a older brother who took me to concerts!
Klaus words:"Dream we´re going out on stage, it feels like
Coming home again"

The Scorpions are here because of all the fans.
There is always new wave of music and most of peole show their interest what is new now specially young people.
It is so important that the Scorpions collect new fans.
And the old professional fans should be their(new fans) supporters if you care about the Scorpions.
To have the pride that you have been loyal fans of the Scorpions is great, but if you push new fans away, you are not helping the Scorpions. :(

The true fans should support the Scorpions in any ways, I believe. 8)

I have known the Scorpions from the Crazy World time and started to attend their concerts since 2004.
But I am making effort in my way, I think and I am not so bad for the Scorpions, I hope.

I could be wrong but this seems like revisionist history to me. Especially since the Scorpions give the credit of their success to Matthias joining the band.

And are you still sure that the fans you mentioned still agree with you? Maybe they do. I don't know. I am not speaking for Rudiray, but I know personally that he respects and treats the new fans the same as old fans.

I love the 80's. It was a renaissance of music, thought, and culture, a real "kick ass" decade.

I agree with you Rolf on both points. Of course touring the US in 1979 was important to their career, but since it also coincided with Matthias' entering the picture, no one can really say what would have happened if they hadn't toured here that year. And as for Rudiray, I also don't put him in the same category as some other names that were mentioned. (And did you forget he's in California? We all know how some of you feel about California! Heaven Forbid!)

I maximally agree with Toshiko, Rolf and Mary, and, although I haven't met Rudyray personally yet, I have changed some PMs with him, and reading his posts, he is an extremely gentleman, he respects every and each fan, and I can't put him into that certain category either lol.

He treats new fans also with his warmth, kindness and respectation.

Now, I know exactly that I am subjective of Uli, I admit it, but am proud of it, and am proud of being his supporter, but let me to say something in defence of his era:

I have became a Scorps fan in 93, but I was touched by albums of 70s too inmediately, by the 80s era also, of course.
However, I never have ever forgotten that euphoric feeling that was in the forum in 2005 right before the Colmar show, and after it too.
I know how I was feeling and how many fans were feeling evenif we all were europeans.
We got into a huge euphory to get to know that Uli would play with Scorpions for a show after so many years.
You weren't there in Colmar, but I was, and believe me, it was a huge and wonderful moment when Uli steped on the stage, when Klaus announced him.
The audience went into total crazyness, including me, and I still have gosebumps to recal it.
It wasn't just a little thing, anybody says anything here. :D

Hi Gabi,

I fear, you misunderstood me. Yes I was not in Colmar but I can imagine how wild the people became when Uli came on stage. And I know, you love Uli and that's good! And I know Uli is an extraordinary guitar player, better than most of the others.
But that's not the point. I am a fan just for a few years, but I listen to hard rock since the 80s. And when I listen to Scorpions I begin with lovedrive, because from this album on it is the kind of hard rock I love and that was succesful in the U.S.. Before - from lonesome crow til taken by force or maybe the tokyo tapes - it's an other kind of music and I don't think they would have been succesful with it in the U.S. to that time (btw. except for some songs I don't love them, too. Meanwhile I like them, because I heard them often enough). And without this success in the U.S. in germany nobody would have taken notice of them - that's all.
If you were not succesful here in germany on your own you had to be succesful in england or in the U.S. to be noticed here.

Hi dear,

Oh no, no, I didn't misunderstand you, believe me, also, I had got your point and I agree with you, and do respect your opinion and you have every right to be a fan of the 80s era, and you are right about England and the U.S. also as main pases of success for rockbands.
I will have to be honest again:
1. I respect your opinions because you also respect others' one.

2. My post wasn't a response to your post.
My post was just because I am getting to be sick of some fanatics of 80s here, but you don't belong to them.
So, next time don't dress the shirt up that is not yours. Okay lol?

Luvr yah and respect your thoughts my intelligent friend.

That´s exactly what´s written in a page of Rudolf´s book, and there's also a very good explanation about it..
