Cristy -
Just thought I would let you in on some news for your nephew.

AT&T will announce today the creation of roughly 200 high-tech call center jobs through a partnership with the city and Alamo Colleges aimed at developing a pool of skilled workers the company can readily tap for expansion in San Antonio.

Earning between $17 and $22 per hour, or about $35,000 to $45,500 annually, the workers will handle specialized calls from U-verse field technicians and the 1.6 million customers who subscribe to AT&T's booming cablelike video service. The U-verse Technical Support Center will boost AT&T's local payroll to about 5,500 employees in a move city officials tout as an example of the company's continued commitment to San Antonio.

AT&T already has call centers in San Antonio, but this will be the first for U-verse. It will be located at the company's building at Broadway and Hildebrand.

Today's announcement will be made at a 9 a.m. news conference. The news marks new ground for the telecommunications giant on two fronts: It's the company's first expansion of operations in the Alamo City since moving headquarters to Dallas last year, and it's the first time, company officials say, that AT&T has collaborated with leaders in a community to establish a work force development program.

AT&T says it will start hiring in early 2010 and expects the call center to open in March.

“The goal is to create a pipeline of opportunity for employees and a pipeline of talent for AT&T,” Mayor Julián Castro said. “We look forward to working on even bigger things with AT&T in the future.”

Most of the new employees will train three to five weeks at the Alamo Colleges in a course customized to AT&T's technical support functions. Not every trainee will be hired by AT&T, officials say, but still will walk away with the skill set needed to meet the demand of other high-tech telecommunications jobs. The city will propel the initial phase of the curriculum with $50,000 in startup funds from an interlocal agreement with the community college district, City Manager Sheryl Sculley said.

“We all were concerned when the headquarters left and were wondering about the future of AT&T in San Antonio,” Sculley said. “This further stabilizes and enhances AT&T's operations in San Antonio.”

Not only is the job announcement coming when unemployment in the city recently hit a 10-year high, but the positions are set to pay above San Antonio's average salary of $34,864.

Aside from pay, the positions come with the options for health and retirement benefits and union representation.

“These are solid middle-class jobs that come with good-paying benefits,” said John Stankey, AT&T's president and CEO of operations.

But before the city could celebrate new AT&T jobs, local officials first had to deal with the company sending 700 senior level managers to Big D as part of its headquarters relocation. The move prompted city leaders to engage Stankey, who is in charge of AT&T's San Antonio operations, in conversations to “understand what San Antonio's strengths are relative to AT&T.”

“They really came and said, ‘What do we have to do to be competitive for future work?'” Stankey said.

The answer: Develop more technically skilled workers.

The partnership with the city and Alamo Colleges was “born from those discussions,” Stankey said, and “makes San Antonio an attractive place for us to grow that employee base.”

The customized curriculum, developed alongside AT&T, is set to enroll its first students in November. The courses will focus on four components: customer service, home installation technology, cable installation and networking, and will entail about 150 hours of classroom instruction, said Federico Zaragoza, vice chancellor of economic and work force development for Alamo Colleges.

“You can think of this almost as a boot camp, where individuals are going to be really immersed in the competency of these four areas,” Zaragoza said. “These skill sets are going to be valuable for other employers as well.”

Cristy -
another lead for your nephew

Toyota is accepting applications for production positions at its San Antonio assembly plant due to an increase in volume created by the relocation of the Tacoma pickup to the Alamo City.

City and county leaders confirmed Thursday that Toyota would relocate production of about 100,000 Tacomas from a plant in Northern California to San Antonio by next summer. City officials estimate it could create up to 1,100 new jobs over time at the local Toyota campus.

Aerotek, a national staffing firm that has worked with Toyota’s San Antonio operations in the past, is accepting online applications. To apply, log onto www.aerotektx.com.

When you asked who does he think the enemy was, I was just being facetious cuz Obama acts like America is the enemy. He has spoken at times to other countries with what sounds like disdain in his tone when talking about America. He is either an idiot or very dangerous.

Nancy Regans letter to John Hinckley

You might recall that John Hinckley was a seriously deranged young man who shot President Reagan in the early 1980's.

Hinckley was absolutely obsessed with movie star Jodie Foster, extremely jealous, and in his twisted mind, loved Jodie Foster to the point that to make himself well known to her, he attempted to assassinate President Reagan.

There is speculation Hinckley may soon be released as having been rehabilitated. Consequently, you may appreciate the following letter from Nancy Reagan to John Hinckly:

To: John Hinckley

From: Mrs. Nancy Reagan

My family and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we are with the great strides you are making in your recovery. In our fine country's spirit of understanding and forgiveness, we want you to know there is a nonpartisan consensus of compassion and forgiveness throughout.

The Reagan family and I want you to know that no grudge is borne against you for shooting President Reagan. We, above all, are aware of how the mental stress and pain could have driven you to such an act of desperation. We are confident that you will soon make a complete recovery and return to your family to join the world again as a healthy and productive young man.

Best wishes, Nancy Reagan & Family

P.S. While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look into that.

It's just scary at times with banks shutting down, people losing jobs, but this weekend I'm not going to dwell on it. We still need to enjoy our lives.

Heres to hoping the science czar will resign next. His idea of population control scares the hell out of me.

Department of Agriculture dude comes onto my land sayin, "Hey! THIS badge authorizes ME to go ANYwhere on this "PREMESIS" (MY gun says PROPERTY!!) I deem fit." I say, "Sure, just don't go over there into THAT corral." HE says, "Look lady, THIS badge authorizes ME to go ANYwhere on this premesis I deem fit." Sooo I say, O.K., have it your way, dude!" HE proceeds to closely examine the goat barn, the lambing pens, the horse corrals, mare motels & stud stalls... FINALLY, he goes over to the corral behind the barn, into *THAT* corral... I'm mindin' my own business workin' on some fence repairs nearby, when I hear him yellin' & screamin', "Aaaahhhh! Heeeeelllppp!!" I simply tell him, "Show that ornery bull yer badge- IT authorizes you to go ANYwhere you deem fit on MY PROPERTY!!!"

Shame. A socialist government has ruined Britain. Vast spending, thousands of immigrants, rights for criminals, oppression of Jews and Christians (in favour of the "religion of peace" who fly planes into buildings and blow up commuters).
