***Athens***

The show in Athens was unspeakably great, as you can tell by the reviews from everyone. I met Antonis, Nikos, Arista, Lanita, EduRock (from Italy) at the venue. There was a sound check in the early evening but I forgot to write down the songs they practiced. First, Rudolf, Matthias, James, Pawel, and Uli first practiced, then Klaus arrived with the marvelous Greek singer (I am sorry, but I don´t know how to spell his name right now) came out, and then Michael Schenker and Herman Rarebell.

It appears the band was really busy backstage doing numerous interviews with lots of different media people. There was a meet-and-greet around 8:15 and Klaus, Rudolf, Matthias, James, and Pawel signed many things, had their photographs taken, and all of the Greek fans seemed really pumped. There was also a crew taping it for German TV.

The show started right on time, about 10:25. The set-list has been already posted here so I will not post it here. They played 25 songs, and the stadium was packed with wall-to-wall people. There were onstage fireworks, and some flame throwers that shot huge flames into the sky. I wanted to check my hair that it was not burned because they seemed so hot.

Michael Schenker, Uli, and Herman looked really happy to be there, and Klaus invited the Greek singer out and they sang "Holiday" together. They both teased the audience by challenging the audience to follow along with their "Ah-a-HAHs." Matthias seemed to really enjoy playing with Michael. And Matthias also seemed happy when Herman appeared. I am sure that all of them were happy to be playing together. I was on Matthias side so I could see from that angle the best.

We are in Larissa now. This will be the second and last show for us this year.

***Larisa show***

I think the setlist is already up so I won't repeat it.
Like the Athens show, the stadium was packed without any empty seats. The standing crowd was immense. I couldn't see the end of them. There were a few people who felt faint and were rescued by the security guys even before the show had started. (I hope they were better soon, because I really feel sorry for them if they missed any of the show.)

It was a really hot day and night, and the security people were giving a lot of water to the audience, passing water bottles back or throwing water on them. There were no flame throwers or fireworks for this show, which were spectacular in Athens (and I hope to see them again someday...hint, hint  ), but the extra heat might have melted the stage.

And, unlike Athens, there were no back dancers for "Tease Me Please Me," except for Pawel!!!!!
At one point, he was standing in the same place where the dancers performed in Athens and playing his guitar.

When the Greek singer, Vassilis, came out to join the Scorpions, the audience gave him a chorus of cheers and the band members looked liked they enjoyed having him, too.

I've never heard the actual voice of Matthias singing, but this time I did. When the band members were playing "321," I could hear him in a loud voice crying to the audience, "Sing it!" and singing "Are you ready to rock?" It was difficult to take a photo of Mr. Jabs during the show because he never really stopped moving, with lots of hops and leg kicks. Also, I loved the way Mr. Schenker held his guitar when they played this song. That was really cool. Kind of a "yoga" style. Playing the guitar with his knees bent, standing with his side to the audience.

When James played "Kottak Attack," he wore a uniform and screamed "Scream!" three times.
I think the uniform was Larissa's local sport team's uniform (a football/soccer team?) and the audience was really pumped to see it. Well, some of them probably were opposing teams' fans and saying, "Boo," too. That was fun, too.

When the band members played "Blackout," all the lights were turned off for a moment and it was a real blackout. That was a nice moment, too. Very funny moment!

While they performed "Big City Nights," I guess Mr. Meine had some trouble with his microphone stand so he had to chage it three times. In that way, I could see him holding the microphone in his hand so it was fantastic to see it. Later, when Vassilis handed a microphone to Mr. Meine, he immediately put it into the microphone stand and sang with Vassilis. I mean I like how Mr. Meine swings the stand around and sometimes lays it across one or both of his shoulders, but I really really also enjoy just seeing him perform with only the microphone.
Thank you God for all these moments.

When the band started to play "Still Loving You," somehow the lights attracted so many ant-lions on the stage and they feel off from the stage to the ground like rain. The band members looked surprised, but I guess even ant-lions wanted to dance with the Scorpions for their one-night lives.

The show was great. Even in such hot weather (this was the hottest temperature show I have ever been to), the Scorpions were at their best, giving their all for the audience. The audience gave a lot of energy back with their enthusiasm, shouts and screams, and arm-pumping-and-foot-stomping love of the music.

Sadly, the show was over, as usual, and people started to go home with calm music from the stage. I think this soft music is a good idea because you wouldn't want everyone driving home "...Like a Hurricane!"

We went back to our hotel, but not so smoothly because our rental car's GPS system always took us to the middle of someone's backyard or to the middle of some olive fields.

I just remembered one thing about the Athens show.
At the end of the show, a lot of confetti was blown by two machines to the left and right of the stage and it looked like snow flakes. The stage was covered with white confetti and the band members got some of them on their heads.
It was beautiful.
A beautiful blizzard on a hot Athens night!

Hi Toshiko! Thank you for your review and the photos! I hoped for going to Hotensleben but it won't work out so it's always good to read such things :)
This confetti must have looked amazing! You know, in spite of the heat this fake snow :)

Later I'll search for some videos on youtube. Good to hear, there were so many people on their concerts. I've always known that these Greek shows are unique :D

Greetings!
Marta

Hi Marta, Amparillo, and Kristof,

Thank you for your kind comments.
This photo album will continue for a while because Mad Dog and I took a lot of photos.
The sad thing is a lot of them are blury as usual.

The Greek promotors really promote the Scorpions.
I found so many posters almost all the utility poles in the cities.
And the posters were huge!

I am working on the photos at my breaktime between work so it takes time, but I will try to hurry up.

I wish I were able to see the Scorpions shows more often with less expense, but this is the way it is so I can live with that.
It worth traveling that far to see the great band concerts and that is what I am working for everyday.
(Well, actually Mad Dog is the one who is working harder than I am, but I am still working, too. )

Photos will be continued.

Hi Adrian, Cristy(?), and Antonis,

Adrian, I'm sorry I called your name wrong.
Both the cafe and the venue were loud so I couldn't hear anything so well.
I wish I could talk more.
Thank you for being so friendly and kind to us.
You have more shows to go and I am looking forward to reading your stories!

Cristy, I did the 5th photos today and tonight I will do the Athens show's photos.
Sorry it takes long time with doing work and housework.
Also I am still having jet-lag a little bit. But I will post more photos soon.

Antonis, I was surprised that Herman made me eat his chicken!
That was very first time for me to meet him and he told me to eat the chicken in front of him.
It was delicious though.
I am sorry to interupt you guys while eating.
I was going to just say hi to Herman and get his CD and audio CD and go to another table to eat dinner, but he told us to sit down so we sat down.
Mad Dog and I were very impressed Greek promotion for the Scorpions.
I hope they will promote them for a long, long time like the way it is now.
And the sightseeing around Athens and Larisa was GREAT!!!!!!
The place reminded us of Utah, America a lot.
We are so glad to visit your country. 8)

I'm very happy you liked our country and you found time for sightseeing!
There are so many places to see...
At the dinner we were happy to see you,of course we weren't expecting you and it was a kind of surprise to have you with us!
Did you like his cd&audi book?I listen to them all the time!
...the chicken you ate was not Herman's,it was Nikos' one :D
Herman had finished his dinner and Nikos had to go to get his headphones form his home to be back in time for the party...and he had no time to eat what he orderd,so it plate was left....alone...

Hi Antonis,

Herman told me that he would be there at 22:00 pm before we left Japan through email so we went there a little earlier to have dinner then we ran into Nikos at the entrance of the cafe and he told me Herman was upstairs so we just went up there to get Demo CD which Herman supporsed to give it to me for our local radio station.
But he said he didn't have it with him at that time and he told me to bring it when he comes back around midnight.
So we were waiting for him to get it, but I guess he forgot about it again.
Anyway, I took a lot of photos of cities and now we are going to introduce them to our students.

Cristy, I am now working on the soundcheck photos so they will be up real soon.

Hahaha Antonis, this chicken-story is so funny for me, I can't help it, but I see the humorous side.
Herman was so generous to offer Nikos' dinner to Toshiko, it's hilarious.

Hahahaha....it's really funny to me as well and that's why i wrote it down!!!!
Herman had just a salad and he was the first to be served...so he had finished his dinner...but for some reason Nikos'dinner come too late and he had to go,because he should be our dj,since i had to drive Herman home to rest....so he had to start the party and get back to HRC in time....

Toshiko did you go to Crete?

Hi Cristy,

We didn't go to Crete because we had to come back here to work.
If it was just the day after Larisa then we might have been there, but thinking about riding on a ferryboat makes me seasick.

I'm sorry it is taking too long to upload the photos, but many of them were blury and I have to erase them then make good ones smaller size so it is faster to upload in photobucket.
But I am working on it everyday little by little.
I will post some tonight again.
Have you been able to see M&G photos, you said?
There were many fans there and all I could see was the band members heads.
Thank Mad Dog to be born tall.

Too bad you missed Crete, I heard it sizzled!! haha
Don't worry about the pictures, take your time. I love the M&G pictures. Have u seen the Greek fan club's M&G pix? They are great, as well as the videos done by Ilias and Angel.
Also, I don't believe Marina meant to be rude in her post. Her language barrier I believe, just made her sound that way. The same with Gabi, I believe she was just being protective of you. I find myself being more tolerant with ppl lately!! :P

BTW there is a photo in Crete, where Kate is showing a sign where I am sending my love and MJ is smiling and giving the thumbs up sign. I will always cherish that pic. I wish I would have gotten a reaction from Klaus too. hahaha

Cristy,
The Athens show and the Larisa shows were more than enough for me specially the Athens.
It was my very first time to see Michael Schenker playing right in front of me and to see Schenker Brothers on the same stage made me so happy.
I love "Doctor Doctor" very much.
And Listening to "We'll Burn The Sky" with Uli's guitar...sigh.........
I also made wonderful memories in Larisa, too.
That was another most wonderful night to remember for me. The show and everything.
This Greece trip was one of my most favorite trips in my life.

Anyway, I haven't seen any Greek fanclub's photos. Where are they anyway?
