By the way, they are lots of videos on YouTube, this is No one like you :

Watch on youtube.com

This picture taken long before Scorps were due...and there were much more people later on, and we were tighter together than this...

http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/4285/10yleis.jpg

The heat and the humidity made us panting like dogs and I felt homesick remembering sauna in Finland..

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9516/4minjaadriano.jpg

We were staying in the first row, right in front of the huge loudspeakers near Matthias´s side (couldn´t even see him when he was in his 'right' place. Klaus´s voice sounded somehow distorted from there, but my husband who stayed further in the back, and who is no expert in the band in any way, said :" I don´t know, but those who say that the singer´s voice is not so good anymore, are talking b---t! That man´s voice was powerful and crystal clear, absolutely perfect!!! " . I took some small clips of videos but because of our location, the sound is horrible and I only had a small dig camera, you better check the other ones on YouTube. Most pics, too, are not clear because of the constant moving of the crowd and the location...here are some..

http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/628/ ... ocoast.jpg
http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/9200/31matthias.jpg

After the show, with brothers from Malta (great guys!)... Note! HERE we can see the "more than 15 years" difference in age : I was a wreck, the guys could have gone to another concert after this :(
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4584/3 ... rianol.jpg

About the concert, still.... As you know already, the atmosphere was incredible, the crowd sang along all the time, the fireworks were astounding , scared the hell out of me sometimes  . One of the most incredible moments for me personally was to see Michael entering the stage and the guys playing Coast to coast and Doctor doctor...I was in tears... the crowd welcomed him : MIXALAAKII !!! MIXALAAKII MOUU!!!!! Which is a greek way of saying with tenderness : my dear michael !!! our dear michael!!! They loved him so much and he was in a top form. Another big surprise was to see Athena with James and indeed, James shouted : here we are - Athena in Athens !!! Uli gave his best guitar playing ...and I personally had my dream come true listening to "We´ll burn the sky". :P  :P

I hope there is going to be recording out of the whole show at some point, even a dvd, because the show had the quality, intensity, the atmosphere, the setlist, the members , ALL of it the way we want them !!!! :D

Hi Lenita,

thanks for your nice review. It sounds as if you all had a great time. And after I saw the videos I support the wish for a DVD or a TV Show. But I would also like to see our Scorps together with Alice Cooper in a good quality. Maybe they make a Greece/Russia Tour DVD.

btw.:

yes, this happens on a concert. It happened once to me, when I was a teenager. It was a concert I can't forget. It was a Shakin Stevens concert. That was really nice

(I won't tell you in detail why this was so nice)

Thank you the brilliant continuing and finish of your review Lenita as so intelligently as you are.
Your husband is absolutely right about Klaus' voice.
I heard him 5 times live, (not mentioning the live recordings, of course), but his voice always has been full of power, energy, it is so strong and clear, he is absolutely THE VOICE for my ears.
I LOVE YOU KLAUS, OUR PERFECT SINGER!!

Scorps with AC? Would be great, but this could become reality only if they make another tour together.

I can admit that this magic voice of Klaus sounded a bit better on youtube than in concert (in some songs) and it was the sound engineer who did a bad job in my opinion. The vocals were a little bit distorted and you can understand tha the voice of Klaus was great when you are listening the songs on youtube. The instruments sounded great, especially Michael Schenker's guitar...what a perfect sound...People could understand why Michael is one of the best guitarists in the world. All the group played in a high level ,the guests also.People realised why this concert was the best so far among others placed this year in Athens. Herman was unexpectable fantastic. The 1st Scorpio festival two years ago had better sound in vocals ,but this was the best concert overall :).
Also the reaction of the audience seemed to be the worst since 1990 .For a standard sold out Scorpions concert in Athens i expected more. The reasons are many: average ages 30+ (no teens like the past concerts),overcrowded arena in the front raws (it seemed that they couldn't move-no space at all) , 2 support groups (people standed over 5 hours in the arena facing the heat.Eventhough Papakonstantinou was fantastic ,i think Scorpions should no longer play with supports), ballad-audience (knew only the greatest hits.Always somewhere and Rhythm of love would be better choices for them).
I know that i sound negative ,but as a huge fan i want to mention everything (eventhough the "negatives" were a drop in the rain...). This concert was the best so far in Athens in general, even the worst journalists (that hate Scorpions) were satisfied with Scorpions perfomance.

To answer Cristy's question, no Matthias didn't do any solo. I thought he would, since he started his "helicopter" sound with the tremolo, but he turned it into Big City Nights. LOL! And I was so excited screaming "YES YES YES FINALLY THE SOLO!!!"

I disagree with you, dear friend since the whole package was so sucessfull and i saw too many young kids and rockers of all ages.
Of course after so many hours there in such a heat....it's normal to be tired after a 2 hours plus concert,,,,BUT the fact that you are tired, doesn't mean you don't enjoy yourself..

Still waiting for Jen's and Kate's review!!
Thx Antonis for letting me know that Greece still loves our guys, makes US look lame as hell!!
As far as Klaus' voice OH ***, I heard him over the freakin phone and he sounded so amazing I was crying!! When he sang Another Piece...I was astounded cuz his voice sounded so young!! I am amazed and shocked and in awe!! MJ's guitar playing and Michael's was incredible!! I couldn't get the music out of my head all night! sighhh.....thank you Jen again my baby girl. AND btw there were lots of young kids. Eva for example is 10 years old, an MJ fan AND she was up front. One security guy lifted her up to Matthias and he patted her head!!! AAAAAHHHHH I would LOVE for him to pat my...head!! :P  No really, I think it's awesome that our boys love the young ones so much!!
Lenitaaaa, I looooove ur review and pix!! Girl, I am so glad that you got to really enjoy an amazing event!! And I am glad you were more moved this time, then last year!! You won't forget this nite for a very very long time!!

There are some high definition and very good quality videos on YouTube already; if you search for Scorpions Athens 2009 you'll enjoy them.
And Scorpions P-L-E-A-S-E consider a DVD from this concert even if it's for the Greek market only!

Now that the blue-red spots on my arms are not hurting that much and I can touch them on the desk in order to type, I can also give a review of my first concert of being in the first row..

I was at the stadium from 12 o clock, with Evgenia and Haleyna. Later more friends came, and I had a great time gossiping and playing a little the guitar before ( http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii14 ... _25040.jpg ) the doors opened at 18:06pm. I was the 3rd person I think who stepped into the stadium, and run as fast as I could to grab the barrier, in front of Matthias' place:-) My youngest sister Eva arrived too later and managed to reach me..After 1 hour, the security guys felt sorry for her and took her out of the crazy pushing of the arena, in front of the stage!!!!!! That's exactly the reason why I brought her to the arena..

To be honest, from 18:30 to 22:20, while waiting for Scorpions to come out, I was having the worst time of my life. All the time the crowd created on purpose those "pushing waves" if you know what I mean, and all its weight would fall onto us, pressing us between the crowd and the barrier. I was really glad Eva was out  Many girls of the first rows were screaming when that would happen, and many got carried out, as already said.

When Scorpions came out, before I realized that finally I was really in front of them, the first fires surprised us like hell !!!! There were so many surprises at that show, fires, fireworks, confetti, the dancers on Tease Me Please Me, Athena on drums, songs like Robot Man, Long Tall Sally.. That was the BEST SCORPIONS PERFORMANCE in Greece ever.
At some point, a security guy lifted Eva in the air, in front of Matthias, so that he could see his name written on her t-shirt. I didn't really see the whole thing, but he told me afterward that Matthias tapped her head smiling.

Personally I would have enjoyed the show more, if I could move at all. Like _Matthias_ said, it was OVERcrowded. I couldn't reach my pockets, it goes without saying that I couldn't reach my camera in my bag (which was in front of my feet), I couldn't fasten my undone bra throughout the whole show
Regarding the sound, the only one I could hear perfectly was Matthias, and Rudolf's solos. Uli, I didn't hear anything he played. Michael's guitar also didn't really stand up. There were some songs where I could hear Klaus well, and some other where I couldn't. But that's ok, after all you can't really hear well in the first rows. My father who was among the seated ones, told me that he couldn't really hear the guitars, apart from Matthias, while Klaus' voice was really stunning, like crystal. It depends on where one is.
I don't agree with you, _Matthias_, when it comes to the age of the crowd. At least in the front rows, 90% of the people were either teenagers or young adults.

I will be going to the show in Crete, and I hope that it won't be such overcrowded, so that everyone can enjoy the concert more. The band is amazing and they showed why SCORPIONS GOT A STING!!!.

*********************************

PS- I did see Toshiko up in front, Toshiko I was between Matthias and Klaus, among the girls who held the banners..I tried to call you but you couldn't really hear me. It's a pity..
PS1- As far as I'm concerned, it's not going to be a DVD release. Or that's how Klaus sounded at the press conference I attended.

Yep, about the crowd there....check out the picture I put on my post earlier...they were NOT older than 24..
the older generation (like I should belong to) were staying away from the crushy crowded front area...all the tough ones (including me) stayed in the front..
