[color=#0080FF]I'll have to presume you were just being facetious by stating you can't wait for everyone to be hit with taxes. It's difficult to tell sometimes from just reading words on a screen, without the benefit of seeing one's mannerisms and hearing voice inflections.lol I'm sorry, I don't understand your statement about reinstating the capital gains tax. There is already a capital gains tax in place. Are you referring to individual, corporate, long-term, short-term and in what tax bracket? An increase would be a challenge anyway because the current rate is protected under the Tax Increase and Prevention Reconciliation Act( P.L.109-222) signed into law May 17, 2006. After the current protected rate expires in 2011, it will revert to the rate prior to 2003, which was generally 20% based on certain criteria. I don't like paying taxes either, but there's no escaping them. Corporations and the wealthiest Americans will be the ones to be "hit hard".....if that helps at all.

Since the race thing keeps being brought up for some reason, I would like to add my opinion if I may. I agree, for some voters race was definately an issue this election, but ANY voter who based their decision on the race of the candidates, did so with depthlessness and ignorance. I'm sure that both candidates lost and gained votes because of the race issue, but thankfully it was the overwhelming number of Americans(all demographics) who had faith in Obama's ability and confidence in his proposals and ideas that ultimately won him the election. It certainly didn't hurt that the Republican administration of the last 8 years practically ruined John McCain's chances, either. McCain may be a decent man, but he was doomed by his own party.

yep .. blame George W ... everyone else does ..

The problem lies with his citizenship for me....John McCain had to have his natural born citizenship verified because he was born of US military parents on foreign soil....What makes Obama exempt from this if there is a question about him....

And yes I did post this in another topic....am learning to cut and paste.... 8)

I just peeked out my door, and to answer your question, "have all the whites left the states", I'm happy to report that I see some, so no they haven't left.lol  According to the U.S. Census bureau report of 2006, white Americans comprise 80.1% of the poulation, black Americans comprise 12.8%,( of course the statistics may have fluctuated a bit in 2 years). The fact is, the overwhelming support of white voters is what got Obama elected. He couldn't have done without them.

Well as for where I am at in the world....our news reports here are only showing those of colour....with a few token whites thrown in....they are mainly focusing on large urban areas like New York and Chicago....I wish they would go to small town America so I could see other view points besides...."Obama's number 1"....as if this was a football game and not a Presidental Election....

There is always celebration and revelry by the winning party's supporters after an election, this surprises you? I remember feeling disappointed as I watched voters cheering and rejoicing after Bush won...twice. As far as the coverage of black and "token white" voters expressing their joy, perhaps you could call the network and complain to the producer that you feel that they are being unfair?

I could not believe people were crying and collapsing to the ground like they had just seen the Lord!! Get a grip people, this man is a human being not the Messiah like someone said!! They are making this man out to be bigger than what he is!! Something is not rght somewhere!! AND too many suspect grey areas surround this man. Nobody really did an indepth investigation like they did with others in past years!!! Sure some things came out but were quickly swept under the rug, not expanded upon like in past elections!!!???? VERY suspect!! hmm could it be because everyone was afraid of being called a racist??? He rode on the African American wave and KNEW that is what would get him the highest position in the land without an inkling of experience!!

Currently capital gains are taxes at you ordinary income tax rate. If the capital gains tax is reinstituted - which the Democrats want to do - you will be paying your regular income tax + 21% or I heard last night 25% on top of that on the gains that you make thru dividends every year or when you sell investments.

You know the old saying.... never discuss religion or politics. Now having said that I will jump in here with my two cents!

I am not a fan of McCain Or Obama but I voted for McCain as I really do believe he was the lesser of two evils. I personally feel this county needs a business man and not a politian running it, but that isn't going to happen any time soon. I don't care about race, sex or religion as much as I care about ability for the position at hand. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the next couple of years. I do hope that all the people who think Obama is going to turn this country around are correct. I really do ... But right now, well being a small business owner ... right now I just don't see his plans working. Come ask me next year this time how many employees I am able to keep working and I guess then we will know.

Sherry

P.S. Serious question here .... Why was Obama behind bullet proof glass when giving his acceptance speech? McCain didn't have bullet proof glass and they set up each stage not knowing who the winner would be. And also has any other president elect given his speach behind bulletproof glass?

That was my point exactly Tom ... what does that say about the situation. I still need to know if he was the only one ever to give that speech behind bullet proof glass.
