Photographers?

Unread postby RobertaForster » November 4th, 2008, 6:37 am

Is there any photographer or photography lover in this forum?
I love photography, I knew the basics from my university but now I'm studing to become a professional.
I don't have my own digital reflex yet, my reflex is analogycal and it uses APS film, it isn't a big deal.
For now I'm using a Canon Rebel XT and XS from my course, with lenses 18-55 mm, and the 28-80 one from my analogycal camera. My intention is to buy a Canon 40D. 50D was already released but it didn't come to Brazil yet, and 50D will be veeeery expensive anyway, since 40D will be an "old" camera, it will be cheaper.
I have not so much time to upload my pics on photobucket mainly because they are on the computer of the school for now, but I uploaded some of them, which I've taken at the street, here in São Paulo, the center of the city, making some studies. In these ones I used ISO 1600 and automatic White Balance.
http://s201.photobucket.com/albums/aa27 ... o%20Paulo/
To know the lenght and focus I have used in each, go to the details of the pic and it will be showed.
So, Photographers, let's share experiences and knowlege, I'm just begining ^^

Hi Ro,

As you may think, I am not the most suitable person to be a part of your suggestion to share our experiences lol, but will join the topic because I am interested in your passion.

I read with pleasure in the e-mail as well that you are learning as a professional photographer.
Finally, it is that you have been doing on an amature but very talented way for a long time.
What kinds of plans do you have for the future about photography?
I mean, where would you like to work as a photographer? For newspapers or magazines as a photoriporter or dirrectly a photoartist, including your own exhibitions?
What kinds of subjects are you interested in the most?
I am sure that you will express your self perfectly through your photos.

I use only a cheap Panasonic Automatic. But I sold my first photograph today and made my business cards and will be displaying my photos for sale in a small shop here in town. But I am just an amateur, not a professional or even studying to be a professional with a big deal camera. But they say, when you sell your first photo, your are a professional photographer. So......

Cristyyyy how great you sold a photo! How it was?
You know, even with a compact camera you can learn some advices, if it has some manual functions it would be better :D Reflex cameras are great because by the way you can control everything you want on the picture, each detail, no to mention the lenses possibilities. For concerts for example, it's terrible to take pictures with flashes cause you'll kill the set lighting. In the brazilian tour I used my full automatic Sony w150, I can control just somethings, but in general it's all automatic, so, I could take some pics without flash, they were better than the ones with flash, cause I preserved all the light around, but since I can't control so much things with that camera, I used the flash sometimes cause I had no light enough to take the picture, with a reflex and an apropriated lens (a clearly one) and possibiliti of getting an higer ISO (sensibility) I could make great pictures without flash.
Last year I have created a topic talking about pictures and how to get good pictures with scorpions, I gave some basics advices on my point of view eheheh viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22394 check it

Gabi, photography is a door for thousand possibilities, my intention is to work with pictures for love, making macros and putting my artistic point of view on it and being a photographers of concerts, mainly rock concerts, I'll start with bands of some friends, small shows etc, by the way, I can learnd praticing :)
But who needs me for weddings, parties etc... can call me and if I'm available I'll be there

Len, it would be a pleasure, buuut, I'm not available  hehehe
Anyway, I forgot to mention that I'm working also as photographer at the city hall, but they don't have an aproprieated equipment, everytime I need to take pics of city hals actions and other things and all I have here is a full old compact camera with problems in its lens
I said to the submayor that it's impossible to work with that, and the he said to me to make a request for a professional one, I've made it, he signed and then... now I'm just waiting for the burocracy hehehe

My automatic has few options but it has taken some brilliant pix. The shop owner who wants to display my photos for sale says they are beautiful! That I have a good eye. Everybody has said I have a good eye!! Even with a no frills camera :x If I could I would get a better camera but we are talking at least starting out at $400.
My dream is to take pix of rock bands as well. Last year in Vegas, before even knowing how that camera worked in that kind of setting. I took some damn good pix AND even tho I was far away it took some amazing closeups!!! So I think I am doing pretty damn good with so little.

Crsity, The camera I want costs about 1000$ hehehehe LOL I'm saving money, next year I'll buy it ^^
But it doesn't worth to buy a camera like this if you don't need it. I use to make pretty pictures with my compact camera, it just doesn't work for many situations which needs better lenses, bigges appertures or leghts for exempla, external flash etc.
For example, yesterday I took pics using 30 seconds of exposure and apperture 22, I left the camera with selftimes and too a pic of the trafic, I was on the bridge, the result was fantastic, I'll try to show it tomorrow. I used automatic white balance and manual white balance to realize the difference between both. I like manual white balance cause that is me who "shows" to the camera what's white, not what she think what is white, by the way the colors would be nearby to real, but it deppends of our intention and time we have, to make quickly pictures in in a situation that the lights conditions change all the time it isn't a big deal to make manual white balance for each picture.
Anyway, post your pics here! :)

Well, sony is great, and this one you've mentioned is a very professional amateur camera ^^
But I do prefer Canon, and professionals says thar Canon and Nikon are the best ones if you can, buy one of Canon Rebel line, and you can change the lenses :)

Thank you, I really like the some pices I've taken, I do prefer the ones I could take without flash ^^
My favourite is this one http://www.the-scorpions.com/coppermine ... 376&pos=36 I didn't "kill" the light of the set cause I didn't use flash :)

Wow, this camera is alson known as Canon Rebel XSi, and it was this one that I have requested to the city hall, it's really a great camera! Which lens have you used? You made a great macro, did you use some polarizer? The green is really alive! ehehe
And the second pic is really a great shot, and I can realize that a higer ISO was used :)

RO:
I used the 18-55 MM lens, the one I got with, but I hope to get a bigger one for Christmas.
The girl is me, and I had on full ISO(1600).
I didn't use any polarizer, but there was a tiny little edit on that picture, to get some colour and warmness into it.

sigh....well this is all so over my head. I wish I could be part of this but unfortunately I am not trained in SLR cameras nor am I fortunate enuf to own one. Good luck to all of you in your endeavors. Ro, I surely hope you become the next rock and roll photographer. I will continue to sell my amateurish photos and see if I can someday own an Olympus or sthg. Then I can really show my talent. sigh....
