Acoustic guitar: Beginners.

Acoustic guitar: Beginners.

Unread postby Scarlet » October 21st, 2008, 11:59 pm

I hope this is not a repeated topic, I searched for something like this but got no results so...

I´ve enrolled myself today for an acoustic guitar course, and I´m starting tomorrow. The teacher said i could bring my own set list of songs I wish to learn along the course and to start I´d like some suggestions on Scorpions songs that would be nice and not hard to play as I start to learn the chords and everything else.
I´m a real beginner so I know nothing about guitars and wouldn´t know how to judge the songs that are good for a beginner at this stage. Hope you guys can help me :D

Hi Scarlet,

You could try Holiday - it needs string picking rather than strumming but it is easily picked up with a little practice & you could even get away with strumming until you have got the chords. Only 3 - 4 easy chords. I'd start with the main part rather than the intro, which you could do one you have mastered the easier bit.

Cool! Thanks for the suggestion Phill!
My teacher told me I should make a cd with the songs I´d like to play for now, and we are going to work the chords based on those songs. he said if the song is too difficult for me now, he´ll work on the chords and make it easier. I still don´t know which songs to choose...I´ll work on that list during the weekend, but if you have any more suggestions, let me know...i´m still a bit lost here hehe

Fantastic Scarlet !!! I learned Acoustic Guitar when I was 15yrs old and was pretty much self taught especially after my guitar teacher hit on me "JERK". I also had a boyfriend and many friends that played so I learned tons of stuff from them as well. Many Many years ago I taught myself how to play Holiday by watching the "World Wide Live" on VHS over, and over, and over .................... I played that so many times I wore out the tape.

Anyway, I just wanted to say Good Luck and have fun with it !!! PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and don't give up like I did. I'm just now starting to pick it up again and I get so damn frustrated that I have forgotten so many cool songs that I use to know. If your really serious about it your gonna be spending many hours a day practicing Chords and Scales. Be patient cuz obviously it doesn't happen over night.

Also try:

Great!!! lots of ideas now \o/ wohooo

Kathleen, thanks for your suppor :D I tried to learn how to play the guitar by myself, but it didn´t work cause i have no discipline (LOL) and I need a teacher. btw, a teacher who hits??? Unless you were born in 1910 (which was already ridiculous) this is totally unacceptable!
Luckily you managed to go on trying and learning! That´s awesome!

I´ve been practicing, but not so much cause working takes a lot of my time, but every chance I have a practice and my fingers have been sore, and my nails are so short I can´t even scratch myself with my left hand
My homework for next Wednesday, is to memorize the 15 main chords....I hope I can practice a lot during the weekend!

Well,in general I have other yet dream-singing.
Before I got busy singing,I sang in a large hall where the real stars come forward, true one time
and other in other places.I remember when I went on stage in first time,my leggs became waddings  ,and
i remember whem i invited the parents on this concert, man which sat near them said them, when i sang here
"she have so voice and it is necessary a microphone to sing  ",but he did not know that i am their daughter. :) But I`m a girl is not thin.and large and high  ,and such voice in general to correspond me. :
 ,although in ordinary life i speak quietly mainly. Before this concert we had a competition and i took
the second place because sang a song on english but not on russian, but the known guitarist in our town said
that i did not give up sining on because for me very well tuns out :D ,and i gave up unfortunately :( ,and can
be a fortunately, and now to sing somewhere and always i can hear:why i`m not where does not give to sing   ,and i always talk because i had problems in my life. :( :) But I think to continue wanted
this year but did not turn out, means in the following, well and a guitar enters there. :) So,dear Scarlet.

oh wow, so you can sing!!! that´s awesome!!! I´m planning to take vocal lessons too, but not at the moment...one thing at a time. I´m having acoustic guitar lessons once a week and musical theory too. So I don´t want to start doing it all at once....
You know I started playing the keyboards when i was 10 years old, and I gave up, because i was just a child and didn´t know what i wanted. Actually, I didn´t want any kind of discipline... So I gave that up and I regret it so much today... I wish i could still play...maybe someday I´ll do that again.

I hope everything turns out fine for your singing, soon! And you guitar playing :D

Here is a GREAT website: http://www.guitarnoise.com/ Free guitar lessons.

Dont limit yourself to Scorpions songs. Learn about I - IV - V 12 bar Blues riffing, Major and Minor Blues scale, Pentatonic scale, and learn to Barre Chord on the E and A strings. All this is essential to playing great Hard Rock and Metal riffs!

Even on an acoustic guitar. :P 8)

wow

Sounds difficult  I´m still memorizing the basic chords positions!

Oh hey, but I did two awesome things today!
First, I changed my brother´s guitar´s old strings for new ones and i did it well I think :D it was cool
Then i searched on youtube for videos about tuning the guitar, and I think I did good too..it doesn´t sound so bad now, but my teacher will take a look at it this week anyway.

not much, but i´m having a great time learning all these stuff! :D :D

Only sound tough. Ask your teacher about G Barre Chord and C Barre Chord and how to move it to be a D Chord. Then get him to show you a I - IV - V using A, D, and E.

It's like magic when I play holiday. I remember like it was hard for me to learn because it was my first song. I wanted to practise all the day, and my fingers were in a very bad state
