No offense to user DefLep and others who like Def Leppard, but I have always had a problem with the path they went down. Now don't think I absolutely hate them, BUT - Def Leppard had balls on the first two releases (On Through The Night and High 'n' Dry) I loved those records. Then they met up with Mutt Lange, everything changed. He decided to take them on as his pet studio project, trying to make them the perfect pop rock act. He succeeded I must admit (wow! $$$), but in my opinion he changed their whole sound so much I just didn't feel the spark that Def Leppard had in the beginning anymore. You listen to Shania Twain's newer stuff (his wife) and it sounds very much like Def Leppard (at least from a production standpoint). I think it's a totally manufactured "Mutt Lang" sound - sugary, safe, overproduced, layered vocals (up to 100 Joe Elliot vocs!), pop hit machine stuff. I know everyone in Def Leppard is an incredible musician, and I can't blame them for choosing to go with Mutt on a success level, I just think it's a shame when a really great band loses their balls to be successful. Sorry! Don't hate me for my opinions! PS: 2 albums Mutt Lang worked on are classics though - AC/DC Highway to Hell and Back In Black (I guess AC/DC didn't let him change their sound)
