The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) recently updated their list of top-selling music artists in the United States. The following are the cumulative album sales totals for the most popular heavy metal/hard rock arists in the U.S. (sales totals are in millions):

Really interesting list....and to think The Beatles and Elvis are #1 and #2....Elvis started it all....as a solo artist....The Beatles started it all as a group band.....what impressive list....exception of a few here and there....One thing I noticed...Rock, Gospel, Country, Pop, etc are all on this list. Crazy World 3 million
LAFS 3 million
WWL 1.5 million
Blackout 1.5 million
Savage Amusement 1.5 million
Lovedrive 1 million
Animal Magnetism 1 million
Best of rockers and Ballads 1 million
Face the Heat 500,000
14 million copies in the states alone and that doesn't count Deadly Sting, Live Bites,Pure Instinct,Eye2Eye,Moment of glory,acoustica, Bad for good, Unbreakable and the 3cd Box of scorpions record sales...
SO RIAA IS FULL OF CRAP...I have old billboard magazines that have all of the above record sales in it...RIAA has always short changed the Scorpions...

Remember this....The USA market is directed at the 12 year old age group...sad but true! That is why you see so many pityful groups...and remember the older groups/artists have been around a long time...that is the only reason they have sales higher then some of these....crappy artists...directed at the 12 year old age group....sorry....this does ***** me off...it's not about talent...it's about looks, how they dress....how they are marketed....damn shame if you ask me! They don't have to post the sales or how much money in sales...I like who I like for my own reasons!

I also read that during the 80`s The Scorpions were #3 in Tour earnings.
Who knows about all these lists...........
How about the Rock @ Roll Hall of Fame...........

Right! We cannot trust to these statistics, they always have different results from diferents sources

Just goes to show many peoples taste is in their *&^%$$# Queen? Metallica! Ted Nugent? ACDC? (overrated) The Scorpions blew away Nugent so badly that people were walking out on him (79 in S.F.) Aerosmith was only good up to their 4th record. I love the Beatles and Elton john by the way so I do have varied taste. The best heavy rock groups in my opinion are:
Scorpions
UFO
Rush
Blue Oyster Cult
Black Sabbath.
Other rock groups I love include
Golden Earring
Rolling Stones
Who
Led Zeppelin.

Worst of all time and or vastly overrated:
Queen
AcDc
Van Halen
Motley Crue
Lynrd Sknyrd
Pink Floyd
Metallica and any other new band (Nickelback, Green Day) they stink! My two cents and I've been rocking since 1973.

Pink Floyd are good, metallica were good up to a point where they started making crappy albums and as for the newer bands, some are relatively good. Scorpions are far better!

well the scorpions until 1996 they had the top selling live CD for a non American rock band ( world wide live ) ..
i have several magazines that said that , even the billboard magazine ...
i really don't know the amount of Cd's that they sold in America but nowadays its easy to reach millions of Cd's with the "fast food music " as i like to call bands like blink 182 , linking park , good Charlotte and so on .. nothing against then but i don't like then i respect then because if everybody likes black what the hell happens to white .. so its big world and plenty of space for everyone in his world ... i still love the scorpions i love then with all my heart and soul ....
10 millions 1000 millions i really don't mind as long as they keep putting out good and singly music

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!! PINK FLOYD IS ONE OF THE MOST OVERRATED BANDS ON HISTORY, GOSH WHAT A LACK OF IMAGINATION "SONG PART 1, PART2, PART 3" GOD THE ONLY CHANGE SOME LYRICS AND THEN THEY HAVE ANOTHER SONG, AND THOSE SONGS ARE LEGENDS NOW... BULLSHÍT

...i don't agree...maybe you don't like that kind of music...pink floyd&hawkwind cover all about psychedelic rock music...maybe pink floyd are overrated comparing to hawkwind..but those 2 bands said it all about that kind of music.
i think that overrated bands are Lynrd Sknyrd,Van Halen...etc

I like Pink Floyd. They were different from the ordinary rock groups and they brought something new. That doesn't mean they are crap!
