The day has come. Yesterday we got to know the appointments. Our coach Smuda announced it during the special football concert in Warsaw. That was a ceremonial and joyful. Was how should be, not at a press conference, but with "fireworks"

yes Hans, I don't know the main reason behind that but in fact the Lebanese are football lovers who never got the chance to see their national team reaching the WC (yet), so during the WC and the Euro you'll see them with enthusiasm and emotions for the team they choose, you will see flags everywhere on the balconies or the cars too...they cheer for those teams and have discussions and tease each other about it...
the most 2 teams lebanese cheer for are Brazil and Germany (Brazil with slightly more supporters maybe) and Italy comes in the 3rd place, and then almost equally Argentina, Holland, Spain, England, France...
There are lebanese in Brazil more than Lebanese inside Lebanon (almost 7 million) so this could be a reason, and there are many Lebanese in Germany too, in addition, many of the Lebanese love the Germans attitude and how they like everything in its place.

In fact I am giving a guess but all those reasons would come 2nd, as the main reason should be related to the game itself, and the great performance of the Mannschaft, their wonderful team synchronization, in addition to all the stars who graduated from the Mannschaft.
For example, in 1990 when i was 6 years and watched football for the 1st time, my dad liked the 84-90 stars of the German team and bought me a flag during the WC of 1990, telling me: "this is the German flag, and you are with Germany"..he also made me watch that game with him..and when they won, I felt really excited and then i followed this team in the next years and felt a passion for the game and the Mannschaft particularly, and many names of my own era, such as Klinsmann, Matthaus (well he's been part of many eras ), Bierhoff, etc...
two more interesting facts are:
- in Lebanon, almost all German fans support Bayern Muenchen in the CL
- the rivals of the Mannschaft supporters in Lebanon are the Brazilians (and vice versa) and not NL as it is the case with the German supporters in Germany.

And I think that this is somehow special when you consider how tiny Lebanon is in comparison to the rest of the world. For example, one person gave himself the nickname 'ForeverGerm.'.

You said you know the Mannschaft from 1990? Then you might know also my favourite player. His name is Pierre Littbarski. In 1990 he lived in 'my' town (a little town with only 5000 people).

after the final against Argentina we made a car convoy through our town and some people rang the bell at Littbarski's house (someone should have told them he is not home).

oh yes, it is very likely to see a Lebanese fan of the Mannschaft with such a nickname and getting into sports discussions and analysis...cafes get crazy in here during the Euro or the WC with convoys after the games as well..we are passionate about it and follow all the leagues...we can watch them all live in here, and on different channels..

in fact as I said, during the WC 1990 i was only 6 years, but I just googled him and yessss the face looks familiar, it brought back memories, in addition seeing him wearing this 1990 jersey already squeezes my heart

I say in group D england and sweden will make it to the knockout stage. Not france. I say this because of the matches in the qualification.

I do wish that someone would knock out a player that may or may not make it on to the English team.....and I do wish that for once we had an English team that was not under a cloud of "doom and gloom"....

And the other match: I couldn't believe my eyes that the Oranjes couldn't score against Denmark. Neither van Persie nor Huntelaar (we call him 'the hunter' here in Germany)

I do wonder if it was not the pressure that might have had something to do with the outcomes of both games.....for those that play for English teams....the hype here was great.....and both games were advertised as "not to be missed".....and to be honest at half time of the Germany v. Portugal game I changed the channel.....and resumed work on my cross stitch.....

But must be off now....as my parish work is finished for the day and I must hoover and make tea so I am ready for the Ireland game......GO IRELAND......
