I am glad you brought that up. You should join the Euro, that would be easy!
We haven't had real trouble with the introduction of the Euro, except that everybody spends a Euro where one used to spend a Guilder (a Euro being 2.2 Guilders). If you did the same in the UK that would give you huge savings (a Euro being only 0.68 Pounds)!
Another problem for us is that the counterfeiting of Euro notes is more professional then it was for Guilders. That wouldn't go for the Pound, because the market of the Pound is already a big one. Well, that's what I heard.
Yes we should all have one universal monatary system in Europe however the Quid will always be ours if British Politicians have their way. Besides, Her Majesty the Queen's photo on our currency is a mainstay in our country and their would be a public out cry if we were to change.
If we spent a Euro where we would normaly spend a quid, then retail shops would adjust the price eventually to imply it was on par when actually we would be paying more for our goods.
In New Zealand they implemented a 8% goods and services tax which was supposed to bring prices down. It didn't happen that way and now they are accustomed to paying the surcharge on top of the regular price.
Counterfeiting will always be, I suppose people will one day be able to perfect the holograms on Euro and pound notes. I have not figured out the trick yet.
