Welcome to the forum Roxanne!
"I loved reading your list"
I love common sense and people with a sense of relevance in things. It did me good to read your "normal is just a cycle on the washing machine" signature, thanks.
Will you tell us more about your life as a professional cowboy? :D The only idea I have of it comes from old western films, which, I assume, aren't a completely reliable reference.

Hi Katerina,
Thank you for the warm welcome. Nice to meet you.
Lol, I'm sure you haven't met 'many'......ummmm, 'any'....metal head cowgirl's in here.
Being a girly girl and a left handed thrower in a sport (steer roping-rodeo) which is dominated by right handed throwing men and the fact that I prefer 'head banging boys' & 'screaming guitars', over cowboy's and country & western music, makes me stand out from the rest. I'm always told my ways are "not normal" (lol), however, you see by my signature what I really think about 'normal' !! ( Cowboy's don't like losing to a girl, and things get really rough sometimes.... ) :?

Hi! Thanks for the pictures - I suppose that's you in the second one?
As for calf roping, well, I don't looove the idea that the little calves must be scared with the horse running after them and the roping that follows, but as long as they don't get injured it's "OK" I guess. Being someone who likes animals, I'm curious what you think of that?
On another note: "Top professional calf ropers will rope and tie a calf in 7 seconds. " :o WOW  What's your record?
Nope, I haven't met 'many' cowgirls in here, but there was someone that also was involved with horses and stuff..hmmm..I had only read it quickly and I don't remember what exactly she was doing, but maybe the others remember if she was a cowgirl or not.
PS: and I repeat, I really like what you think about 'normal'

Well , now that you brought the issue Kate ... I love animals too, and never be quite a fan of sports or activities that might include them ... I also feel they might be frightened......it will be nice to have Roxannes`s point of view :D

having your own ranch ...that is a dream !!!

Hi Girlfriends !
Adriana Claudia and Katerina.
=)

I understand your concerns about the animals, and so I'm going to address the issue, because it's important..
Animal welfare, which is caring for and meeting an animal's needs, is practiced in the sport of rodeo. Rodeo people respect, admire, and want to take care of the animals that are so important to their way of life.
It's obvious that rodeo is not taxing for the huge, powerful bulls that toss cowboys around like rag dolls, but some people, like yourselves may wonder if roping is hard on calves.
A calf has more than tripled its weight when it is first roped, which is at 225-250 pounds, and is a strong animal. It takes the special roping and handling skills exhibited by the rodeo cowboy to manage the strength of a calf whose instinct is to flee or fight rather than cuddle.
I assure you, I've been hurt more times than any calf has.
The roping contest is an extension of the necessary skills developed by ranch cowboys to hold cattle for doctoring, etc., without benefit of pens and corrals. The muscular structure of a calf and its hairy, thick hide allows prudent roping without harm. As is observed, immediately upon removal of the rope, calves jog trot out of the arena in a most unconcerned manner. Calves, who soon outgrow weight limits for the event, then fulfill the same purpose they would have in the dairy or beef industry if they had not been in rodeo — or perhaps grow up to be a rodeo bucking bull.
Injury to animals is infrequent with rates documented at a small part of 1%. The use of horses and bulls in rodeo is so undemanding that they stay healthy and perform well for many years. It is not unusual for a bucking horse to be kicking up its heels in fine fashion over the age of 25 and many bulls are still active buckers at 15 years of age. Veterinarians attribute it to the good care they receive which includes quality feed and adequate exercise.
Rodeo associations throughout the country have rules that dictate how contests will be conducted and animals will be handled. The first rules for the humane care and treatment of rodeo animals were established by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) in 1947, seven years prior to the founding of the Humane Society of the United States.
The average bucking horse or bull works less than five minutes per year in the arena.
Human skin is 1mm-2mm thick, horse hide is 5mm thick, and bull hide is 7mm thick.
Lol, Good Katerina !
Yes, my times are in the low 7's !!
Lean, mean, roping machine !
I didn't become a cowgirl I was born one. (lol)
