I feel like I need to put a word in here, too. You see, through this forum I have met many people , who are 'on the same level' with me, and by 'level' I mean sense of humour, way of seeing things from an unconventional angle, a healthy amount of self irony etc. And, some of the best friendships are with people who are a LOT younger than me, it just happened that their personalities matched with mine. We talk of all areas of life after being over with the 'getting to know each other better' - period.
However, sooner or later, the age difference shows, and it has mainly to do with the life experience. If I have some personal issues to deal with and I´m pouring my heart out as to any 'best friend' , that person has no way of helping me with her/his opinion simply because she/he hasn´t gone through any of those stages herself, yet. So, inevitably, the friendships with a big age difference will have to stay limited for very practical reasons. It´s a one way road, because I can give many pieces of valuable advice to a younger person, or just to tell her my own experience, but it´s difficult for me to get any insight in turn.
