Greetz From Canada!

Greetz From Canada!

Hello everyone, good to see lots of Scorps fans here!

I've been a fan since I was completely blown away with the Blackout album at age 15. Now, I'm 42 and have a wife who is also a huge Scorps fan! We are counting down the days to see them in Toronto on June 27 - 5th row center seats, YEAH!!

My little story in case you are bored enough to read it... I also played guitar, but stopped playing 20 years ago. I would always try to start again, but after trying to play for 10 minutes or so, would get frustrated and put it away for another year.

Then 9 months ago I thought I need to do something really special for our 10th anniversary in January. I came up with the idea to secretly learn to play "Still Loving You" while my wife was working during the evening. I had to practice it for months. She was blown away when the day came to play it for her.

And by practicing so much with a long term goal like that, I was finally able to not be frustrated with my playing anymore, and in fact am now as obsessed with playing as I was when I was a teenager! And of course I'm trying to learn all the Scorps songs I can now! That way, my wife won't complain if I buy another expensive guitar.

Cheers!
Ric

Hello and welcome on the forum Ric!
Your story was just so nice to read! Beside, playing guitar is such a good way to forget everything, leave our problems while playing....
I wish you a good time playing then, and see you on the forum!
Greetings from France!

Thank you Thai and Alizee! You both made an interesting point -- that playing a musical instrument can actually be healthy. That's something I don't think most people realize, and is something I had forgotten.

My job gets very stressful near deadlines, and can often have me coming home in a bad mood. Within a half hour with the guitar, I am in a good mood again! It's very much a form of meditation. I'm sure it's adding years to my life now! :D

I think that would be very easy for you to find!

Not everyone has the patience to learn an instrument. It is good not too push too hard and get frustrated, and not get too focused on the technical and only practice finger exercises and study theory, or you will get bored with it -- you need to have fun with it too! Short and long term goals are a good way to keep playing, something challenging enough to feel reward, but not too challenging to want to smash your guitar.

Good, well structured and carefully paced lessons are a huge help. I am learning with the Metal Method DVD lessons, which are by far the best! They've been around since 1982, when they were just audio cassette lessons, which I originally started learning with back then.

I hope you decide to keep that guitar for yourself and buy another one for your son. Then you can jam together. :)

Hi Whipper, just joined myself, but the same as you, totally hooked since 1982 with the Blakout album.
Hopeing to see them again in the UK (if and when they tour here). And i'm kinder hoping to see them in there native Germany for a farewell, if everything works out.
Been playing piano, acoustic guitar, drums from a young age but been playing bass for more than half my life now, and it's funny to think when you realise that you never get to a point where you have 'learnt', you get to a standard and just keep developing your playing all the time, musical instrument's are wonderful things.
When i get some spare (spare  ) cash i intend to get a keyboard again.
Keep learning those tunes.
Brathu.

Very cool! I was almost in Budapest in 1991. I had a Czech friend who was actually my boss, but was more like our father really (he was retired, but helping with his son's music store). He went to Slovakia to marry a woman named Marika, who he met while she was visiting her daughter here Canada, and I came along with him and stayed at her home for a month in Bratislava. I loved it there so much!

I wanted to take a boat tour down the Danube river to Budapest and back, but Marika's mother said I should not... she was worried that the "skinheads" would kill me there. Marika was actually Hungarian too. As I'm sure you know, there are many Hungarians in Bratislava. Her mother only spoke Hungarian.

I really like how there are so many different cultures here together - much more than any forum I have ever been on before! I'm especially am interested in Eastern Europe cultures. While I was born in Canada, both sides of my family are German. Both families came to Canada around the 1920's, but I still grew up on a diet of homemade sauerkraut... perhaps that's why I love "kraut rock" so much!

I love keyboard too! While the guitar may be a more expressive instrument, I find the keyboard better for composing melodies. It's a much more sensible instrument, that's for sure! I still need to learn how to play it properly though, but I'm focusing on guitar for now.

:) Hello Ric,

I am always so happy, and proud to hear that others are especially interested in our area from different corners of the world.

Yes, of course, I know that many hungarians live in Bratislava, finally it belonged to Hungary before signing of the Trianon-contract as close of the First World War.

Haha lol, the story is so funny about skinheads in Budapest.
Well, if you missed Budapest just because of them, it was really a pity to miss the visit.
Budapest isn't (and never has been) full of skinheads.

And you should be proud, Gabi... you are in a country that is very rich with history, culture, beauty and of course, great food !!!

And no, I did not believe it about the skinheads... Marika's mother was very old, and had not been there for a long time. We all had a good laugh over it after. I did not go because nobody could go with me, and I did not feel like going there by myself.
