I SURVIVED THIS!!! =)))
Really, it was a challenge, but it was absolutely worth it!
As I said, it was my Birthday present from my Ukrainian friend Vita – she bought me a ticket for the third day of the festival and gave me a place to live. She, her husband and their son were really amazing hosts who really wanted to make my Birthday a good day =) So I was in Dnepropetrovsk on 13th July, right at my 21th Birthday =) They showed me around, set a table asked a lot of questions about me and my life. And, of course, me and Vita started to think about our plans for tomorrow =)
We decided to go kind of early, because we wanted to be closer to the stage. Personally, I wanted to hear Scorpions the most, but I also wanted to rock out with other band, because I was celebrating =) So we were there at 12 p.m. already, and I’ve met some nice people in the bus which was going to “Best City UA”. They are very nice and also wanted to be closer to the performers to see and hear everything clear.
So, people were already there! Some of them - since early morning! Wow! So we were looking for a place where we can stay.
Then, when the place was found, we started to talk to the guy who was standing next to us. I wanted to sing something (as usual)), but nobody else wanted to sing with me. But one girl came up to me and said that recognized my voice – another one friend from Ukraine, Marina =)
It was kind of interesting to watch soundcheck, what do people do on stage, but in some time a terrible storm begun – heavy rain with strong wind and hail. We tried somehow to hide from it, but the umbrella didn’t really help, so me and a girl who jumped to me were terribly wet and were shivering because of it.
So there we are: find Dasha in red blouse and shorts =)
Then, after the storm, one guy who was standing behind me, gave me his towel so I could get warm, even if only a bit. My shoes were full of water anyway, and they were wet during the whole day! It’s a wonder that I haven’t got ill after all.
Because of the storm almost everything was taken away from the stage, so some bands had to do soundcheck again. that is why the concert begun later.
You can find me in the front row =)
I must say that I liked a lot the first band – “Мотор’ролла” (“Motor’rolla”)! they were positive, energetic and I was dancing during almost all the set they’ve played! If you’re interested, you can see their performance here:
I decided to take all I could from the show =) But must say that the next band, "Lacuna Coil", was a bit worse than I expected it to be. The sound was terrible, I almost couldn't hear vocals, and the guitars were just one strong noise you cannot recognize anything in. On the second song I was already waiting when they will go off the stage. My ears were already angry =) But I was headbanging! =)))
Russian band "Сплин" ("Splin") was never a band which I like, but I really enjoyed how public and artists were the one during the set! The audience knew every line from every song, and to hear them singing all together was incredible!
“Enter Shikari” made me really tired. Not really my style of music, and they were too loud and noisy. But it was interesting to watch the guys going crazy on stage – they have a lot of energy to give away.
And… here it is!
I feel how the crowd starts to push a bit further, and I hear how people start to scream, to shout: “Scorpions!!!” Yes, we all knew that they will appear soon. We thought they will.
But then something happened. First very strong wind again. We all were begging the thunderstorm not to come to us, but soon in started raining, and in some minutes it was already a real shower! Less than in a minute I was soaked to the skin and again shivering all over. The umbrellas couldn’t help us. It was a real storm. I was right when I shouted: “This is f*cking hurricane, hey!”
The stage was under the rain, too, so the band couldn’t go out on it, because it was really dangerous to play in such heavy rain with electric instruments and microphones. Some people weren’t that patient and left, and I must say frankly that in 30 minutes under this shower I had a thought to give up, too. But Then I thought: to hell that, I’m here to celebrate with my favorite band, to see and hear them live, to rock out and I won’t go anywhere. I had nothing to lose already – I was sure I will be terribly ill after all and there was no point already to go anywhere, because I was already for a half of hour wet and haven’t even felt my feet. So, I said to myself that I will be there when the Scorpions appear.
We were waiting for 40 minutes under the rain, and finally the show begun!
As I could understand, the band couldn’t wait anymore, and it was right decision, though it was kind of hard for them to play in the rain. Just try to play a solo on a wet guitar or to sing in a microphone standing in a shower and you will understand that Scorpions are heroes for sure!
On the third song I forgot about the rain already, and though all my body was shaking, I tried to feel the moment at its fullest. The guitars, drums, and Klaus, singing “I’m singing in the rain” with happy smile… Amazing!
Of course there were some problems during the first half of the show when the rain was still pouring, but I saw how the band tries to do the best to perform excellent. So I had understanding for the mistakes, and Scorpions really made my feeling of respect to them even bigger, because not many bands can play so well in the rain.
Approximately in the middle of the set the rain stopped, but it seems to me I haven’t even noticed that. My blouse was already dry and I haven’t felt like it’s cold – I don’t know why, it must be some kind of miracle! So the next half of the concert was already excellent! The crowd was simply amazing! They were singing so loud, screaming for Scorpions, and I remember how we were shouting all together “Kottak, Kottak!” and our “You kick ass!” seemed to be even louder than James’ one! =) So my respect to “The Best City UA” public – you are truly amazing!
The band was so energetic and professional, they gave a lot of attention to the people in the crowd. But here I have one thing I didn’t like at all
. Klaus gave almost all his drumsticks to the people between stage and front row – to the VIP-guests and volunteers of the festival, when only a couple of them got to the simple audience. It wasn’t really right, because the people were standing there since early morning, survived two storms, were soaked to the skin and shaking in a cold only to see Scorpions, and the “VIP” people were too comfort there – they hadn’t wait for so long at the same place, they could simply hide away from the rain and they wasn’t standing there for 40 minutes in a heavy rain and shouting: “Scorpions!” I think the front rows deserved those souvenirs from the show much more than ”VIP’s”.But nevertheless, Klaus, thank you for singing “And I know you” pointing at me =)))
I was happy, and you can’t imagine how! To hear Scorpions live again, to sing with them, to feel the energy of the show and to catch some attention from the stage was awesome present for my Birthday! It seemed to me that I was the happiest person in the Universe during “Wind of Change” and “Rock You like a Hurricane”. And here’s a special huge THANK YOU to Matthias – there is no one like you for sure!
I still remember how I was surprised to understand that my voice is still the same strong, that I feel warm even though my shorts and shoes are sill full of cold water. And I bet my eyes were shining so bright that someone could see them as stars on the other planet! =))) I hugged Vita for such a present she gave to me, and… “I have really no words strong enough
”, as usual after Scorpions’ show! It was pure happiness for me!
The surprise it – I’m still happy like no one and I haven’t got ill at all! I love the miracles to happen to me! =) SO THANK YOU UKRAINE AND SCORPIONS!!! It was my best Birthday celebration ever! Some photos from Internet =)
