I only began to really learn about the Scorpions a few years ago so please excuse any inadvertent ignorance. I can only go by my impressions and what I've learned here and from other Scorps fans. I love the Scorpions because of my classical violin background, and love the energy of rock combined. I play in a local symphony and also a rock band. Music, according to Beethoven, is a higher revelation of knowledge, and transcends human experience. I am a psychotherapist in my day job, and I find their lyrics true and genuine. They tap into creativity, the life force, libido. Sexy, intelligent, witty, sensitive and deep. l
I saw their shows in Miami 7/16/10 and very next night in Tampa 07/17/10. When I learned that they only had a few East Coast Tourdates, I signed up for the Meet and Greet at Jones Beach without hesitation. Being from Orlando, I happened to know Drew (flyingvee) already, and he planned to take his 10 year old son Chris and meet up with longtime Scorps fans and friends Aldo, and Angelo. Angelo was unable to go so Jim. A Manhattan detective friend, took his place. Drew first saw Scorpiond at age 13 with his Uncle when he was living in Greece. I believe his first concert was in Germany, so what a great event, he is taking his son Chris.
When the Livenation Event of those attending showed comments on Facebook and made friends with Gisli from Iceland. He is 33, but raised with his older uncles who were Scorps fans. So a long awaited 25 years to see his favorite band.
So the long awaited day comes. I'm flying up, Drew drove up with his son and we rode together with his friends to Jones Beach .. Reminded me of Close Encounters of the third kind, all these parallels lol. Jung would just say it was synchronicity.. So there's a table by the VIP entrance. We started gathering at 4:30 at 5:00, The event people started checking us in. We were given wristbands and two drink tickets, and we were told us we would be let in to buy merchandise, then taken to the hospitality tent to mingle with other VIP ticket holders in addition to meet and greets..
Gisli was there with his girlfriend Regna and he very calmly said "Hello beth" all the fans were so interesting same characteristics of the scorpion music Intelligent witty sexy! The meet and greets were only about 12 of us,when came time to autograph and take pictures with the band, but 2-4 more when we got backstage... That was the only confusion, the guys were signing pictures if themselves, and two [ictures from our group disappeared as we were getting our shirts signed...one was replaced..so there was the five of us,Gisli and his GF from Iceland visiting in the US, a Brazilian Couple,2 guys one originally from Japan and one originally from Mexico... We were very international!!! And the 12th was Ashley who works at MIT in language with foreign students... She's 25, has loved the Scorpions since 3 years Old. First saw them at 13. She wants to work with bands some day, she was on the forum many years ago as "LEFTY"
And the VIP people were maybe 20. A Russian girl and her date who had done meet and greet in NJ the night before. Two blonde girls from Boston BGRW written on their arms, you can see Mattias playing to them center stage in the YouTube TEASE ME, PLEASE ME" one is a geologist Rock chick at Harvard the other a model/stylist. We became immediate friends, and we all had blue rocks in our necklaces (!!??)
Ok. I had a t-shirt from SITT 2010, bought another 2012 of blackout. They had silver pens there but we brought our own. Then we hung out at the tent had drinks, dinner of ribs chicken corn on cob, sandwiches salad.
Then lined up to meet the band. Autograph line, I told them I saw them in Miami and Tampa, said they were awesome thank for their music...and Mattias.. starts saying "Awesome, Tampa" in a funny German imitation of an American or maybe souhern accent.. I was a little taken aback, but realized he was goofing with me, so I goofed back. James, Klaus, Rudy Pawel so very sweet, Klaus showing me how to hold the T-Shirt spread out with my hands so the cloth didn't wiggle when he wrote.
Ok, so back to the VIP Tent after autograph an pictures. Queensryche was supposed to have played, as opening act, but because of their issues, a girl fronted band was their replacement. Mos of us chose to wait til the Scorpions started. You cold still hear the music and we enjoyed learning about oe another. We saw the Scorpions come out backstage, and the girls made a display of climbing on fences and waving at them across the water separating the VIP from the Stage! it was Fun!!
So then we get our seats for the show front row. As the concert progressed more people filled in, but I think that;s good for the band to see. The band was perfect. That is all I can say. I got some great pictures, they come right up when you are front row, it's incredib;e to see them playing so close. Klaus tossed drumsticks I caught one..he put the tambourine down so 10 year old Chris could play it during the song. Chris has such a wonderful smile, and his eyes are so bright, with his father Drew, and knowing all their music, he was right at home, nd completely connected with the band and they with him. Klaus, again in the middle of a song pointed to Chris, and brought 5-6 drumsticks to his hand!! A female grabbed around us and took one, i think more by instinct, maybe she thought he was going to throw them..altho it was a little unsettling. Klaus saw it, tossed another one for her, she missed, and ut fill in front if Chris. Gentleman that he is he handed it to her and she smiled.
I'm sure someone else will print a setlist, so I'll leave that. Still Loving You was what the audience seemed to really anticpate and be glad to hear. the attendance was full if not sold out.
To me that and many other things that happened showed me how professional they are, and not only sexy, intelligent, witty(Tampa!!) but kind. I love them more than ever now. I will post pictures later when I get home tomorrow.
