Scorpions rocked their way through a warm humid night in New Jersey! I arrived after a long drive from Boston with my 12 year old girl Shannon and 7 year old boy RJ. We arrived at the PNC center at about a quarter to 9, and found our way to our seats, about 15 rows back on Mattias side of the stage. The band looked great, and put on an energetic show despite the heat. Klaus mentioned his bout with laryngitis last time he played this venue, and promised to turn his voice up to 11 this time "well, 10 at least".
As ever, Mattias appeared to be having the time of his life, Rudy was running around like a wild man. Pawel provided a solid foundation, and James we all enjoyed James antics. I was struck at just how well this performance matched earlier performances on this tour. We listened to a recording from Stuttgart on the drive down, and this performance sounded nearly identical. These guys are truly professional entertainers ... we all got our money's worth.
My kids started fading about two thirds of the way through the show ... we retreated during James "Attack" to give the kids a little break. We found some water, but decided to sit back in some of the back seating for a bit. The kids recharged a bit, and I made sure the kids were watching picks getting handed out as the band went off stage. I convinced them that we should try to find our way close to the stage to see if we could get our own after the encore. They agreed, and we headed down the aisle. The hot, humid weather took it's toll on some of the other fans, and Shannon had the amazing fortune of having a front row ticket handed to her by someone who had had enough. Her little brother tagged right along behind her, and found their way up to the security barrier. At the end of the show, Klaus gave special attention to Shannon and RJ, carefully handing them drumsticks to each of them. Klaus also noted the hand made "Bad Boys" muscle shirt Shannon had made him.
Thanks to the band, PNC center and all the other fans we met tonight. We had a great time!
