Part 2
At 20:15 the opener
Driving Dead Girl started their show. They are from Belgium and play a kind of high density
rock and
roll. They played a short, but enjoyable set of 30 minutes. Probably, after Edguy, the best support for Scorpions I have seen so far. The singer said it was the first time they played in a venue of that size and they seemed to enjoy it. My nephew Warre seemed to enjoy every moment of his adventure, and looked less tired than during the waiting in the beginning, which was, indeed the hardest part for him. There was another kid of his age at the show as well btw, the son of Ron's friend Benny, and at the left corner of the T, there was a girl that looked even younger, or at least a lot smaller.
And now, I have to dissapoint my fans who were hoping for
something. During the short break before the Scorpions, Nancy did no longer insist on the T-shirt issue. She must have become a bit shy about it, or maybe she was too overwhelmed from standing so close to Ron all that time. Near the end of the break we heard "Back in black" and "Enter sandman" and I told Warre that now it wouldn't be long before it really started.
I think it was around 21:15 when my cell sent the first sounds of
SITT to a living room in Agrinion. I was checking how Warre was doing and he seemed very impressed, and completely into it. Since the end of 2011, they did some small changes to the
setlist, which I found very welcome. After CTC, as always, Klaus kissed his plec and wanted to give it to a
beautiful girl in the audience. He clearly indicated who was supposed to receive it, but the plec fell between the stage and the barrier. Some
specimen, on the left of the girl grabbed the plec from the ground, and didn't want to give it to the girl. Maybe the specimen thought Klaus wanted to give the plec to him. I hope the specimen is not representative for the average Antwerp rock concert audience, that would be a bit sad for Antwerp.
During
In trance and
The best is yet to come, I wanted to give short concert calls to my Katerina, but due to technical reasons, it was not possible to make a connection. There's no use in being at a concert, if you can't call your loved one, so I kept insisting, and during
Send me an angel, we finally got connection with Akropoli. In the mean while Warre was doing very well, and singing along like a pro. During Hit between the eyes, I wanted to send a last concert impression to Lenita, but I'm not sure if it was received, or picked up by one of the monsters and not transfered.
About the concert itself, it was a
good and
tight performance, as usual, and Klaus' voice sounded very good. I also found the audience very participating, for North-european standards. Maybe some of us who have seen them several times are getting a bit spoiled. Little Warre was enjoying every minute, and also Wim was impressed that such "old buggers" could put such a performance. During the encores
Klaus took Ron's flag, showed it to the audience and put it on
James' drums. That is the last place where the flag has been seen, alive. Also during the encores, Klaus was thanking the fans and the audience, and he also pointed at Warre's corner when talking about the new generation.
When we were talking with the others, after the show, Warre (who also plays guitar btw) showed very proudly the Matthias plec he got, handed to him during the concert by a friendly security man.
In the mean while,
Ron had gone to the barriers at Matthias side, to try to claim the flag back. Not so long after the end of the concert, they already started to clean the concert hall, and chase away the audience. But Ron is not someone who let's himself chase away easily, especially not when he's trying to get his flag back. So he changed to the other side of the stage, got further and further, and after some time he could not be seen any more, he had dissapeared in the catacombs of the backstage. Unfortunately we could not stay any longer for a group photo, because we had to catch the last tram to Linkeroever, and also Warre was tired after such a long day (he also had been to school). Around 01:00 we got home and could fall in our bed, but only after giving some first exclusive impressions of the concert to the ones who stayed at home.
