Hi
Today morning I came back from Kiev. My trip was successful, the nice city and amazing show.
The show was in the International Expo Center, it is a large pavilion with walls of metal, probably its acoustics was not good. But The Scorpions was good as usual. Rudolf was running and jumping as always and I tried to understand where he covered up his "Perpetuum Mobile". :P
Klaus was smiling, he turned on the audience as he can only. I liked Send Me An Angel in acustic part, to hear his voise from the center of the first row, "eye to eye", is unforgettably.
Matthias was not smiling as usual, sometimes he looked really tired. But it did not influence on his guitar playing, he is a great professional.
James was energetic and impulsive, Pavel did his part well too.
Ukrainian fans made a large banner for Scorpions, Klaus took it on the stage, it was really cool. They organized a warm welcome at the airport for the band (they were discussing it when we were waiting in front of the entrance of the hall, may be Vladimir will tell us more detail about this)

So here's my review about 1st Ukrainian show.
I started my trip from Odessa to Kiev in the evening of 31st of October by train. About 8 a.m. on the 1st of November I was in Kiev where I was met by my good friend Dima from Kiev. He took me and we drove on his car to the Calypso bar where he works. After a dinner we had to go to the venue (IEC as Natka mentioned) to visit so called "press tour". The press tour was organized by promoters for mass-media to show them the venue inside with all it's preparations for the show. As we got an official accreditation from promoters we were also invited there for 3 p.m. After press tour we drove to "Boryspil" airport. We knew that the band will arrive at 4.20 p.m. When we came there we met a lot of fans from Ukraine (mostly) and Russia. They were with big banner which was made specially for Scorps show in Kiev. The guys told us that Rudolf and Tatyana came earlier. So we missed them. Other Scorps came later. They were really impressed with such a great and warm welcome and signed fan's stuff.
After this meeting me and my friend drove after them to the "Intercontinental" hotel where the band stayed. The press-conference with Scorps was scheduled for 6.30 p.m. in one of the lounge areas of the hotel. We were also there. It was about 30-40 minutes. When it was over I came to Rudy to sign my "SITT" CD cover and "Rock Your Life" book. He was very happy when he saw the book. Unfortunately the guys had no time. So it was impossible to talk with them more and took photos with them. After the press-conference they went to a charity evening party which was organized by their friends - Klitchko brothers. It took place in the same hotel but in other hall. It was a great day and we were very happy with all the things which happened to us!
The next day (2nd of November) we came earlier to the venue. It was about 4 p.m. We came to "stuff entrance" but the guard didn't saw us and we enter the venue. We went to the stage where Scorps techs were preparing the stage for uor guys. As we got to know from Achim (Scorps long time sound engineer) Scorps wouldn't come for soundcheck. Anyway we decicded to stay there. Scorps techs played 2 songs while checking (New Generation and Sting In The Tail) and great atmosphere was filling the venue! Fortunately any of the guards didn't asked us what were we doing there and we stayed in a VIP-FAN zone (the closest zone to the stage) till the end of the show. Though I had a ticket for this zone.
About a week before the show promoters announced a support band - “The Radiance”. As I got to know they are young band which play mix of heavy and thrash metal. Ohhh that was a really bad idea to add them. They sounded too bad and weren’t accepted well by the crowd. After them a famous Ukrainian showman Andrey Djedjula came on stage to warm the crowd. This guy was much better than the support band.
The crowd (there were almost full venue) was warmed well and about 9 p.m. Scorpions came on stage. I won’t stop on every song. Everything was fine and similar to the previous shows of this tour. The band was full of energy and very happy to see a lot of fans in the venue. The sound wasn’t perfect because the venue is an expo center and it’s not for such concerts. But at my place it was quite good. The stage design was with podium. At my previous show in Chisinau I stood in front of it. So when the band came to the edge of the podium I could see them very close. This time I decided to stay in the front row at Matthias side. It was good place but this time when the band came to podium I could see just their back. Anyway they always looked at our side. Klaus, Rudy and Matt recognized me. Rudolf even threw 2 times his guitar picks specially for me but none of them were caught by me. Here’s a setlist:
01. Intro
02. Sting In The Tail
03. Make It Real
04. Bad Boys Running Wild
05. The Zoo (faster version. Yeahh it’s much better!!!)
06. Coast To Coast
07. Loving You Sunday Morning
08. The Best Is Yet To Come (feat. Ingo Powitzer on guitar)
09. Send Me An Angel
10. Holiday (full version)
11. Wind Of Change
12. Raised On Rock (Finally I heard this one live because they didn’t played it in Chisinau some weeks before)
13. Tease Me Please Me
14. Dynamite
15. Kottak Attack
16. Blackout (Rudy was wearing mask)
17. Six String Sting
18. Big City Nights
Encore:
19. Still Loving You
20. Rock You Like A Hurricane

After the show we drove to night club “Bomond” which organized an afterparty for Scorpions. Everyone could enter the club by paying 100 hryven (~13$). The club administration promised that every band member will be there. But unfortunately there were only Pawel and James with Scorps management and a lot of bodyguards. So it was impossible to come to them. Even to Pawel who later came on the dance floor to dance with Ukrainian girls. So we stayed there about 1,5 hours and came home because it was late and I had to wake up at 6.30 in the morning to leave for Odessa.
So that was a great trip to Kiev!!!

I'll post my pictures later!

Vladamir, thx for the review, can't wait for the pix!!!! Too bad that only James and Pawel showed up, I am surprised since MJ loves to party all nite a lot, I hear. I guess he's getting too tired.
I am really glad you got to hear Raised On Rock, that is such an awesome song. I love how they end it with that extra lick from MJ that's not on the album.
I sure do miss them.

Yes,Vladimir, I was standing there. I had come to the venue at 4 p.m., found the entrance to VIP-fan zone and waited, waited, waited... and had got the best place for me. I like to see the eyes of guys and catch... not the drum sticks but their smiles :P I was smiling myself throughout the show, it was such a doping for me, as a party in a circle of good friends...
Thanks for review, waiting for pics...

You know guys I was also there. On the 1st of November we were meeting the band at the airport and had quite enough time and opportunities to communicate with them and give them our presents. Rudolf and Tatyana came first and all the fans were able to sign there disks and to make photos with the guitarist.
Two hours later the rest of the band came, there were even more fans meeting them, we sang a song holding our famous banner, gave interviews to our TV companies (http://novosti.kanalukraina.tv/sobytiya ... _10_19_00/), communicated with the band and of course, had our stuff signed. It was a nice and hearty welcome of the band... we had been preparing for it for so long and it turned out to be so quick and interesting!
Together with Vladimir, I was present at the press-conference feeling myself SO close to THEM...
The concert...well everything has already been said. Standing right next to the stage I was one of the fans holding the banner)) it was pleasant when Klaus finally took it to the stage! The sound was quite all right (but not excellent) except fromt the very beginning of the show. It was really great to see the Scorpions singing my favourite songs, so close to me....
But the most interesting thing was waiting for me two days later... because in Odessa I had a chance to work with the Scorpions and their tour-manager Michael Goerche as an interpreter for three days!!!!!!! I'll tell about it in the neighbouring topic about the Odessa show....
We'll burn the sky...!!!
