The official adventure started the day before the concert with the signing session in the Saturn in Hamburg. Finally - I thought – my kids would get their desired autographs, after which we are hunting now longer than a year. But it came as always, we missed it. We started at my home at 16:40, it wasn’t possible earlier. And in “normal” circumstances we would have been at the Saturn at about 17:20, even when it’s rush hour. But this day it was different, there was a very big traffic jam in Hamburg. I remember standing in front of a traffic light, it turned about 5 times from green to red and back and I couldn’t drive a metre. The next day I found out about the reason for it. There was an interior minister conference in Hamburg and some of the important streets for the traffic were blocked. So we arrived about 18:10 at the Saturn, in front of the market stood the Scorpions Amarok and some people around making photographs of it. Inside the market I got the information the signing session would be on the 4th floor, when my kids heard this they immediately ran to the escalator, in this moment I saw Ruta and Marta going to the departure gate of the market. First I wanted to turn around and say “hello” but there have been my kids already on the way to the signing session, so I followed them. When we reached the 4th floor, everything was already over. Some security guys were standing around doing nothing, just looking some holes into the air. I guess it was somehow like “they paid us for being here until 19:00, so we will be here until 19:00”. Because I am not everyday in the Saturn, I thought it would be a good opportunity to look for some cds. My son completed his Avantasia collection and I bought some “nice price” cds, albums I had only on vinyl and not on cd. When we left the Saturn also the Amarok was gone and I heard after the signing session there was some kind of photo session. Maybe on of the others know more about it.

The next day was the concert. I had no chance to meet the others, we arrived at the venue at 18:45 and were standing in a long queue in front of the venue. This was somehow strange, the arena is called O2 world and those people who are O2 customers were allowed to enter the arena without waiting. There were some security guys going around asking the people if they have O2 on their mobile phones. But this have been so many, afterwards they were standing in the O2 queue. But waiting was no big thing, and the security was very relaxed – in contrast to the security in Hannover, which had been a middle catastrophy (← german phrase, don’t know if it makes sense in English). Even I couldn’t meet the others, I knew where they were standing. During the concert Klaus said “and tonight we also have guests from other countries, from italy (=Adrian and the crazy Italian fans), from Litauen (=Ruta, sorry Ruta, the name of your country in English is too complicated, I choose the german version) and Poland (=Marta). So after this I knew they were standing on the top side of the catwalk (where I expected them to be). Here is the proof
The arena itself is, as you already might know, one of these modern multi function arenas, somehow new, bright, modern … nice, but after having been now in some of them I prefer the Grugahalle and miss the good old Kölner Sporthalle.
This time we had seated places, so we had enough time to eat and drink something and then enter the venue. In the venue was a kind of LED-band between the two levels in which upcoming events in the arena were announced. We got the information Iron Maiden will play there, there will be an ice-hockey match between the Hamburg Freezers and the Hannover Scorpions and Die Flippers will play there. Ok.
Opener were again – as expected – Edguy. And – now Adriana you get the information – they were fantastic. The sound was clear and the boys were in a good mood. Wait a minute, I guess I can reconstruct the setlist: Dead or Rock / superheroes / tears of a mandrake / ministry of saints / save me / lavatory love machine / king of fools. Ok, this time Tobias Sammet could not say they have not been in Hamburg before, but they will come to Hamburg next year on a headline tour, because they have already been here (that’s what he said in Berlin and Hannover). But I hope he won’t forget Hamburg next year.
Considering Edguy was just the opener, the audience was a real blast and Tobias Sammet said several times that is was fun to play here. And of course he made again his little jokes. For example once he wanted the audience to sing with him and as you know, when you don’t know the lyrics and don’t know how to pronounce etc. … the first it always sounds a little silent. Ok, after this he said “oh, that was bad, this sounds like Düsseldorf on a Monday morning” – hey Tobi if you read this: You have to say Düsseldorf when you are in Köln, but in Hamburg you have to say Bremen.
When he announced “ministry of saints” he said something like “now comes a song from our actual album, ok, it is already 1 and a half year old – we are a little lazy – but it is still our actual album.
One last thing to Edguy. If you have seen my photographs, you might have seen, the stage is quite dark when Edguy plays, so it is not so easy to make good pictures.
Btw. I forgot my password to my photobucket account, but I have seen there is another site where you can watch the photos in higher resolution. If someone could tell me the name of this other page I will load my pics up there.

and now to “our boys”. First: The setlist was the same as in Köln and Mannheim, so no surprise. Just my two cents: They played again too many ballads, but that’s because of the german audience, many people know the Scorpions only from NDR 90.3 where they play only songs like wind of change, white dove, and and and
They added dynamite (yes, yes, yes!) but removed for example we’ll burn the sky, and kept “loving you Sunday morning” and “make it real” – a mistery for me.
As you can see in the video link, the boys have been in a good mood and – I want to emphasize this – don’t believe what is written in the guest book, the concert was amazing, the crowd was wild and all was a big party.
Between the songs Klaus talked about what the band connects with Hamburg. They have played all these little clubs in Hamburg to the beginning of the 70s and it was Hamburg where they made their first (Klaus:" Hey kids, listen properly, it could be you don't know what this is) record, lonesome crow.
But there was again a little negative, and this was the sound. Where Edguy sounded very clear, the Scorpions sound was blurred and sometimes Klaus sounded more than Mickey Mouse than Klaus Meine. Yesterday had been a report on the radio about the Hamburg concert and there I could hear I am not the only one. The people were asked about the concert and most of them said “hey, cool concert, but the sound engineers have to practice a little more”.

Thanks for your review Hans, and glad you could at least make it to the concert in your own city. Hope the kids enjoyed it as well.

About the sound quality, I think it also depends a lot of where you are located. Philip was also in a seat in Köln and said something similar about the sound. But "downstairs" where I was it sounded OK.

But...

Ok, here's my review...

I arrived to Hamburg on 17th in the afternoon (had to take a flight to Berlin and then by bus to Hamburg). Marta had to come only at 6pm, so there was still time to walk around. We went to Saturn Markt, because it was close by, and before leaving Dasha told me that she saw Scorpions ad on the last floor, I said, that maybe they put it for the book, but didn't think about signing session, because I was sure that it can't be so easy to find a place from the first time :) but that was the place. After meeting Marta we went to our host McKicley, very cool girl (we spent first two nights at her place by Couchsurfing).

Next day around noon we met Adrian and took a walk through the city until Saturn Markt (at 3 pm there were already people waiting at the queue, crazy), we decided to take a walk at Christmas market and then meet other fans. That is a gang!! I was so excited to experience the show with Italians and other fans and it was truly worth it! I had a tshirt to sign (the one i bought before the show in USA), when I went to Klaus, he looked at me and said: "Are you Ruta from Lithuania??? How are you???" I was soo surprised that he remembered me, I saw him 2 years ago, and he still recognized me, it was very nice :) so he told that they are coming to Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, and Poland sometime in 2011. :)

After the signing session me and Marta went back to McKinley to finish our banner and then back to the city to meet the others. That was a fun night. I remember how somebody at the main session asked Sarah's dad what music he is into and he answered "what music??? 1st class rock n roll!!" and Salvatore singing The best is Yet to come... awesome! We all sang Happy birthday to Adrian, that was nice (he got a song from drunk girl at the restaurant who sings as Pavarotti  )

The next day (day of the show) me and Marta moved from our host to the same hotel as Italians and Spanish guys were staying, so we could all be together the night of the show. :) around 3 pm we were by arena, there were already few fans waiting, but we went to have a small lunch and them come back. There was a fence to the main entrance to the arena, but there also was no security, so we passed the fence and got closer, which helped us to be at the first row. ;) And yes, FIRST ROW in the middle in front of t stage, that was a view!!!

Edguy started to play a bit before 8 pm, and didn't play very long. I never listened to them before, but I liked them, though I couldn't enjoy them so much because I was so excited for our boys to start playing!!

And around 9 pm Sting in the Tail!! Guys noticed us at the very beginning! :) it was so nice to stand in the front row with all the people you know. Scorpions family! Unforgettable experience! After few songs Klaus started talking (in German), but I understood that he was saying thank you for all these years to everybody, to the fans, and at the end of the talk he said thank you to the fans who came from other countries. And when he looked at me, smiled and said Lithuania's name among the other countries, I couldn't help it, I cried half of The Best is Yet to Come, it meant so much to me. It was the first time I cried at the concert, but I was so happy. Thank you Klaus! I love you! You could see how excited Klaus was, with tears in the eyes... magical.

The concert was perfect for me! I was so excited and happy, everything was perfect for me! The sound in front was amazing, audience was amazing, everyone had a blast! Thank you so much for these experiences! And at the end Klaus gave me his towel, so in the end: Matthias' plec and Klaus' towel and many many unforgettable experience. Cannot believe that someday it will finish. And I'm so happy they played When the Smoke s Going Down as an encore. I would remove Love you sunday morning, but everything was perfect! I met David after the concert, nice to finally meet you!

After the show we decided to go to Scorpions hotel, met Toshiko there (finally!) and other fans, love you guys! We had a nice talk, made few pictures and left hotel around 4 or 5 am. P.S. the concert finished at 11.30 but it took more than 2 hours to find a train station thanks to many different opinions and changed directions. At the hotel Michael Gehrke said that they are really coming to Vilnius in April, 2011, can't wait! Will be another night to remember! It will be the best last show in Vilnius!

By the way, I was told that there will be the second photo book released some time in the future (maybe after the tour).

So, we went to sleep around 6 am (tried to sleep, didn't work thanks to Gianluca, well, but he saw me angry  ) then took a walk in the city (St. Pauli district, harbor, becautiful places:)) and i had a bus back to Berlin at 4 pm, was there around 8pm, spent a night at the airport and took off to Kaunas in early morning. I missed the take off, because I wanted to sleep sooo much (4 sleepless days and nights), I thought that I was sleeping only few minutes and woke up thinking that the plane is still at the airport, but looked through the window and saw many clouds, then woke up again when the plane landed, missed all the flight

It was such a pleasure to meet all of you guys! I tried to count people and counted 23 (Marta, Dasha, Adriano, Gianluca, Mirko, Marco, Irene, Salvatore, Zaira, Rafael, Georgia and her dad, Antonio, Oscar, Sarah and her dad, David, Toshiko, Rolf, Claudi, Victoria and all the others that i forgot to mention!!) I hope to see the show with all of you in the future again!!

Here are my pictures: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... =731778214
And Coast to Coast video I took:
Watch on youtube.com
(4:41 :) )

How can I live without you???
You're such a part of me!!!

Ruta :)

P.S. I'm so happy to meet Marta again! She was a great companion all those 4 days! ;) you rock! Adrian as well! Everybody! :)
