here it is, as good as I can.
Fresh, happy, mischievous. In this way Verena Kerth presents today like every Saturday from 10 ‘til 18 o’clock at Radio Energy. With her very own style she interviewed in this big BILD series prominent people of munich. She asked them, what she always wanted to know. At the end of this series (she met) the guitarist of the Scorpions, Matthias Jabs.
The guitar shop of Matthias Jabs in the middle of Paris Street (sorry, there is no verb). In the middle (of this shop) she discovers a platin record of the Scorpions.
Verena: Tell me, do you still have shirts from your concerts?
Matthias: I made the mistake to keep them in my garage. They became damp and I had to throw a lot of them away. Unfortunately. What I really would like to have is the shirt of our first open air concert in the USA.
Verena: Does something like shirt-swapping exist among the different bands?
Matthias: No, I never saw this. But that’s not a bad idea.
Verena: When will you go on tour again?
Matthias: From April on we will play again in France, Russia, Greece and of course in the USA. We have neglected Germany a little, but we want to change this.
Verena: To your concerts are coming always a lot of people, or?
Matthias: In South America there were 153.000 Fans at 15 concerts the last time. Even in India and of course in the USA it is always great.
Verena: What is the nicest place, where you ever played?
Matthias: We have been in New Caledonia. There we played in a natural amphitheatre in midst of a rock. Behind this was the pacific ocean. This with a temperature of pleasant 30°C. That was really great.
Verena: You are a real rockstar. Have you ever thrown a tv-set out of the window of your hotel room?
Matthias: No, I didn’t. But ten years ago a member of the band did it in the USA. Unfortunately the restaurant with a glass roof was under the hotel window. And the boss of the restaurant was sitting there, as the tv-set crashed through the roof. For a while we were not allowed to stay at this hotel.
Verena: Wicked! And did you ever destroy your guitar?
Matthias: The last time at a festival in Sweden. There I broke the neck of my guitar. There was no reason for it. I was just bad tempered. Luckily an engineer was able to repair it.
Verena: You have got so many guitars, one more or less, that wouldn’t count
Verena takes a look around and admires the dozen’s of guitars at the walls. Among are a lot unique guitars with a value of several thousands euro.
Verena: Do you have more guitars than I have shoes?
Matthias: I have 140 guitars.
Verena: I have got 200 pairs of pumps. Do you adjust your guitars to your outfit?
Matthias: For sure! I like stripes. That’s the reason why my clothes are made by a tailor. And I have some guitars just because of their optic (because they look good)
Verena: You are a real guitar fetish. Is that’s the reason why you opened this shop here?
Matthias: No. I engineer my guitars since five years on my own. People wanted to buy this guitars. First on the internet and since one year in this shop.
Verena: Who are your customers?
Matthias: From the normal average musician to Stars like Pink, Bon Jovi and Peter Maffay and his band. They all have been here.
Verena: Does it happen, that fans are coming to you just to play with you?
Matthias: For sure! And sometimes there are real talents among them.
Verena: Can you teach me something?
Matthias: Have you ever played guitar?
Verena: When I was sixteen, I had some lessons.
Matthias: Then I will show you some additional grips (don’t know if this is the right word)
Matthias plays perfect “Johnny B. Goode”. Verena tries to imitate him, and becomes better and better.
Matthias: That sounds already quite good. Next time we can go together on stage.
Verena: Well, ‘til this happens it will take a little time. But I will practice the grips you showed me, ‘til we meet again. Thanks a lot
Matthias: It was a pleasure for me!
