In line with the CGDC’s vision of encouraging dialogue to create political change, the CGDC 2012
“music for Dialogue” award is granted to “the scorpions”.

The Center for Global Dialogue and Cooperation – CGDC’s mission is to gather the most influential
individuals in the field of politics, business and humanitarian action in order to create dialogue
across boundaries, ethnicities, cultures and vocations. Its goal is to generate a powerful “wind of
Change” and find solutions to the most pressing global problems.

The founders and president of the Center for Global Dialogue and Cooperation – CGDC, are honored
to nominate the scorpions for the CGDC Award 2012 “Music for Dialogue” for their exceptional
contribution to promoting world peace and understanding through music. they hope that the
scorpions’ unstinting pursuit of universal ideals through art will provide a model and an inspiration
to all those who take part in the 2nd CGDC Meeting.

The CGDC is honored that “the scorpions” are taking a break from their arduous world tour to
participate in this meeting. their commitment is testament to how closely they identify with the
CGDC’s goals.

Klaus Meine, who will collect the award on behalf of of the band, is “the scorpions” lead singer and
writes most of the group’s lyrics. his words to the song “Wind of Change” came to symbolize the
re-unification of Germany. In 2005, “Wind of Change” was voted “Song of the Century” by viewers of
Germany’s ZDF television channel.

Klaus Meine, who was born in hannover, joined the scorpions in 1970 and has since helped make
the band one of the most popular rock groups in history. their music has sold over 100 million
recordings.

I`m sorry, my friend, but I TOTALLY don`t agree. I think the above statement is a bit narrow-minded.. Music, or at least, Scorpions music is not only playing on some instruments and signing some notes/lyrics, which sound more than good. It`s a message, an emotion (exchange of emotions, actually - their emotions, which inspire them for doing the songs and our, fans emotions, as a return for their songs/music/talant.)

So, I think this topic is not just cute blah-blah-blah, but a proof, that music is not just some nice mixture of sound, but.. a positive dialogue!

Of course, this is my opinion and you may not agree too, but as I see, people, writing in this topic, accept the things as me!

i dont want fluding in this topic, but those all about dirty politics, money etc. they are rock musician. they have another assign. rock music & politics are incompatible. that's all much beats on their reputation in rock&roll world. that's why some said that scorps are so pop & sounding like a pop artists. it would be better that they received 'revolver golden gods' for examples. okay, that's my opinion.

What I like about rock music is that you`re absolutely free to tell everything you think I think that is what our guys are doing..speak out their minds through music. So, WOC, for me, is not a political song, as well as this award.

Why? Because WOC is born from some inner feeling, not from a political or whatever order... Or said with other words the song is a reflection of how Klaus felt this huge change - from tanks to guitars, happening to the world.

The award is nothing more but an honor and showed respect to this legendary band and that it was the first group, who dared to (speak their minds) tell that world (Europe in this case), don`t have to be separated into East and West..

May be you can`t understand me, but, believe me.. to live in Bulgaria during this period, to be a rock fan and to be forbidden to listen to the music you love (cuz of some stupid E/W separation) is.. more than painfull...

Winning "Revolver golden gods" or winning "Loved by pink Playboy bunnies" or.. whatever... awards would make them nothing but an ordinary rock band.. as many many others. But the above is special award, for а special contribution to world, for a special (not ordinary) band - as Scorps!

And, let`s stop here, cause we`ve flooded this topic too much.

Not to mention, that 3 of the current lineup, grew up in a divided Germany. They know what it's like to be in a conflicted country. They are very passionate about their feelings and they sing about them. It's not THEIR fault they came out with a meaningful and powerful song that some folks wish to award them for.

Oh might I add, they grew up as well, in an era with songs and musicians who were so deep into politics, that most of the songs from the 60's and 70's were completely steeped in the war and the government, etc. Fortunately, Scorps didn't sing political, they sang pure ROCK AND ROLL baby!!

If you see music as a form of art, such as Renaissance was some time ago, it is very easy to realize that your major inspiration will come from where are you living, how are you living and what is your message for the future, if you just expect an artist to be just repetitive to yourself over and over and over, it is ok also...
