He should keep playing, and I am sure he will be. A musician is a musician forever.
The project like Slash do is a good idea.
Matthias is an amazing player, maybe I am wrong but I feel like if he is somehow limitated by being in the scorpions specially the latest years where the solo's were too too short (specially Unbreakable & HH1) As the excellent lead player he is probably he would have liked that to be different. Or probably the thing is different and he is now somehow "accommodated" as guitar player and don't want to do much more than the necessary, but I am not so sure about this last thing.
I remember an interview, probably to Klaus & Rudolf (but sure Matthias wasn't) where they said that nowadays rock songs don't need long guitar solos, and that they play the songs live similiar to the studio versions because the audience don't want to listen to longer versions with long guitar parts etc.

However I was happy with "sting in the tail" there are some really good Matthias parts in the album.
My point is that I hope he does records something, or alone or creating a band, so he can show all the increible hability he has, a thing (all my own opinion) that he or cannot (for the reasons I gave) or don't do too much nowadays.
The golden age of the scorpions, where Matthias did his finest work, is a lesson of rock lead guitar.
Lets see what he decides to do.
She's some kind of wonderful
