WHAT DO YOU THINK MATTHIAS SHOULD DO?

Unread postby Deleted User 13688 » May 19th, 2012, 2:35 am

At the end of this tour? Since he isn't saying anything much about what he is going to do with his time, other than run his store, what do you think he should do? Let's give him some ideas. :P

I think he should do a project like Slash, playing background with his unique Scorpionized style, to different singers and/or manage an up and coming hard rock band.

DISCLAIMER: This is all in good fun, let's not slam each other or be mean. I want EVERYBODY to post their opinion. kay? Who knows, maybe one of the ideas is already whirling around in MJ's brain OR may give him ideas, yeah? :music-guitarred:

Anyway he shouldn't stop playing! Maybe with another band like Pawel or with some old friends :)

He should keep playing, and I am sure he will be. A musician is a musician forever.

The project like Slash do is a good idea.

Matthias is an amazing player, maybe I am wrong but I feel like if he is somehow limitated by being in the scorpions specially the latest years where the solo's were too too short (specially Unbreakable & HH1) As the excellent lead player he is probably he would have liked that to be different. Or probably the thing is different and he is now somehow "accommodated" as guitar player and don't want to do much more than the necessary, but I am not so sure about this last thing.

I remember an interview, probably to Klaus & Rudolf (but sure Matthias wasn't) where they said that nowadays rock songs don't need long guitar solos, and that they play the songs live similiar to the studio versions because the audience don't want to listen to longer versions with long guitar parts etc. :o However I was happy with "sting in the tail" there are some really good Matthias parts in the album.

My point is that I hope he does records something, or alone or creating a band, so he can show all the increible hability he has, a thing (all my own opinion) that he or cannot (for the reasons I gave) or don't do too much nowadays.

The golden age of the scorpions, where Matthias did his finest work, is a lesson of rock lead guitar.

Lets see what he decides to do.

Great viewpoints. I believe he will rest a bit, and then hit the stage again in some way. That man is far too much a performer as well as an excellent guitar player AND he loves the stage and the energy of the crowd, for him to stop doing that. Yes his solos have gotten shorter and I will bet he didn't like that. BUT when I heard him do the solo on Children of the Revolution, I freaked!! The man still has it and he can do great solos still. And yes Diego, his unique Scorpion style that catapulted them into fame, is for the rock history books for sure. Many a guitar player has learned from that man.
Curry, you crack me up!! :P

I agree with diego, he's a great guitarist but in Scorpions his skill is limitated to what was required for the band to work, what many of you called the "Scorpions Sound".
He is a versatile player, I see him as a fine blueser and I would be curious to see some projects like the ones Gary Moore did in the past... He shouldn't stop performing, I believe we will se "The Dark Side of Matthias" ( ) in his solo projects, if he will continue with music.

Totally agree ROR, MJ is a very good blueser. But since I have only heard bits and pieces of that from him, I can only guess. You have to admit tho that MJ first learned to play bcuz of Hendrix, as most guitar players did in that day and age. HOWEVER, MJ was gifted enough to move away from that sound, which many didn't, and create his own. And became brilliant at it enough FOR the Scorps fame. Now that he will be away from that Scorps sound, he will have an opportunity to create and/or venture into things he has wanted to experiment on. True? hmmmm "the darker side of Matthias" ??? Is there such a thing in his music? We shall see!!

AND Loveland....after all, I rode on Harleys for almost 20 years before I got hurt. So..... :P :P
But, I would looove to ride on one again, esp if MJ is riding it. HOWEVER, he is more a Porsche man than Harley.

My other thought on what he should do.....is be a tutor of his own composings that are most famous amongst any guitar player. He could make tutorial vids, but I wonder if he has the patience to be a one on one tutor. ??

The only hope of any of us in North America ever hearing from any Scorpions members after this farewell tour will be if they reunite with Francis and Herman. All solo projects won't ever see the light of day here in North America. And i can not imagine any bands members coming here to play small clubs.

Since the classic lineup of 1979-1992 was the most suucessful era of the band here in north america. The only chance the band will ever get some airplay or get any chance to be successful here is to make a reunion tour. Solo CD's will fail..

SOLO ALBUM !!!!! Just guitar no vocals or guest spots. James on drums.

I have been wanting this from him forever. It would be great if he could do it.

He should ether

1. Sit down with the guys and write a book
2. write about his time in the Scorps

Or
3. Live to the ripe old age of 105 and have lots of grandchildren

Whoaaaa, Nicolas better get busy then!! As far as the book....I suggested to him right after I read Herman's book (and even told Dieter Dirks that Herman should write a Part 2 and Dirks agreed there should be one. I also suggested that Dirks write one too), that if he would just write an anecdotal type book without names mentioned, just stories of all the stuff he and the boys experienced, that it would be fantastic. I mean for Matthias alone, it's been 34 years of being all over the world, seeing things doing things, etc. that have to be fascinating as hell to us. So, we shall see, yeah? Although I have a tendancy to think that MJ is far too private and protective of things for him to write a book; even if he were to leave out names. :(

According to a recent Russian interview, it seems Matthias just wants to rest after all this and run his shop. Huh? Well, that's all fine and dandy, until he starts going mad not being on stage....just sayin.... :P
