Not crazy about Tesla as the opener. I don't think they helped much on the Unbreakable tour.

I love Tesla's studio music not a big fan of them live in concert...The Scorpions will need a bigger act on the East coast dates...

I agree. They need an act that has a similar history (started in the 70's) and has a large old school fan base like Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, etc. It can be co-headline with each band switching off closing the show, etc. I know that is not possible at this point, but it would be nice!

this would of been perfect if the band was not on a farewell tour!!! i had been saying for years that a co-headline tour with Priest would of sold out arenas everywhere.

so the band will want a smaller band to make sure this tour is all about the Scorpions!!! The band will need someone bigger then Tesla for the dates starting in Canada and going through the DC show on July 12..

Alice Cooper should of been the choice for the whole tour..He would of brought in a big crowd and could of been a special guest like he is doing with Maiden this summer...

The 96 tour with Alice was great, as was the 02 and 03 tours with DP and Whitesnake. Oh well. I can't believe promoters agreed to use some of these venues. I'm curious to see the crowd shots in the youtube videos. I hope for the best and I'm sure the Chicago show will do well.

I agree with you on those past special guests and tours...i attended all of those tours..The Alice tour was great but here on the East coast the attendance was horrible. But it was also 1996 when rock shows were dead. I traveled to VA beach and there were 5,000 people at a 18,000 seat venue. and they were giving away $7 lawn tickets to military people. Then the following night i went to the Bristow show outside DC and there were about 3500 people in the crowd out of about 22,000 seat venue. I was kind of shocked but i did get 5th row at that show.

the DP and Dio 2002 tour was packed at Merriweather Post and VA Beach venue. One of the best tours since the 80's.

i think management is hoping a farewell statement will bring out more people...Not sure this will work on the East coast..Only time will tell

Hopefully it's just on the west coast and we will get a good opening band for the rest of the country . If it's tesla then we don't have to rush to get to the show . Their painfully bad :( .

Tesla? uhm... with all those great bands touring together this summer, I think they needed someone with a better history, quality and fanbase, I don't know if the "farewell story" could help to fill arenas in the USA, the band's management didn't a good job there in the last (20) years, plus I've seen the (very high) prices of the tickets... I hope the band will have packed arenas on this farewell tour, they deserve it.

plus you dont have to rush to get tickets for these shows..San Diego which used to be a huge selling place for the Scorpions..tickets for opening weekend are not selling well for San Diego..TESLA is not a major pull on tours in 2012..If this was 1991 i would say this would be a great bill.

The DP and Whitesnake tours of 02 and 03 we're great. I think the Unbreakable tour (no solid support act) hurt them in the US among promoters. That is why they didn't tour the US much until the farewell tour. There wasn't much interest from the promoters and they certainly weren't going to pay the bands minimum fee, etc. They had to take some time off from the US and announce the farewell tour the get the promoters excited about the band again. It worked, the last tour seemed to do well and their coming back for round 2. Tesla should be the first of three bands on the bill.

The 2004 tour didn’t do poorly because Tesla was the opener, it was largely a failure due to a decade having passed since their last real rock album and because promotion for both the album and tour sucked. Since then they’ve put out some decent albums but nothing that could even be considered close to a success in the USA so they’re in a very similar position as 2004 entering this tour; a band known mostly for their stuff from the 80’s that never really achieved superstar status and that hasn’t produced anything noteworthy in the 22 years since CW. That’s not a recipe for success and unless they’re paired with a real rock heavyweight as co-headliner the tour will not likely pack large arenas. I do see they have some larger venues planned (Staples, Thomas & Mack) so someone thinks they’ll have a strong draw there but then in Chicago where they’ve historically almost always drawn over 10,000 they’ll play at Northerly which I do like personally but has a capacity of only 7500 and was almost a third empty last time around in 2008. Anyone with high expectations the USA farewell tour will likely be disappointed, the fact that it’s the second “farewell tour” somewhat dilutes that element as a drawing point as well. Personally I’d love to see them go out playing to full houses but what really matters is that when the lights go down I’ll have one more chance to see the band that’s meant so much to me over the past 32 years and celebrate the music.

TESLA is brilliant live ,as a matter of fact i go see them multiple times on every tour .
one of the bands that listens to fan request and will play deep cuts upon request .
as a matter of fact they added and dedicated a song for me once .
and anyone who bashes them on their musicianship doesn't know *** !
and another thing the SCORPIONS are not gonna get a opening act that will draw in the big crowd , ya gotta spend money too make money .
$500 for a photo op this time when it was $200 last time ???
glad i had my show in Nashville last time , as much as i would love to see them again a 6 hr car drive to Chicago isn't gonna happen .
hope everyone that can go has a KICK ASS time !
i'll be going to see TESLA play an hr away in a few months for $18 now that's doable !

Berry i dont think anyone is bashing Tesla. I think people are saying since the band is playing some big arenas that maybe a multi band package would attract more people to the shows. I personally like Tesla studio music but i have never been a big fan of them live in concert. That's just my personal feelings.
