Scorpions' ballads: Schenker vs Meine

Scorpions' ballads: Schenker vs Meine

Unread postby Areolyd » March 8th, 2010, 10:32 am

Basically, Scorpions' ballads can be divided into two groups: Schenker ballads and Meine ballads. The former are the ones composed by Rudolf Schenker, and the latter the ones that Klaus Meine composed. Although Meine wasn't composing anything until the '90s, we can notice a lot of softer ballads on the last 4-5 albums, all Meine compositions. Two completely different types of melodies... While Schenker delivers classic rock tunes with an unmistakable signature sound ("Holiday", "When the smoke is going down", "Still loving you", "Send me an angel", etc), Meine seems to be leaning more towards soft melodies, somewhat residing on the line between rock and pop ("You and I", "Does anyone know", "She said", "Love will keep us alive", etc). Both types have one thing in common -- extremely catchy melodies (which is what makes Scorpions so good).

Which ones do you prefer?
I've seen it all and so much more, but I ain't seen nothing yet.

Definitely Schenker, although Meine also has good ones.

My favourite ballads are written by Rudolf, without exception. Klaus´s ballads are much too soft for me.

I'm a diehard fan of Rudolf, but the compositions of both please me. I think one complements the other, which could be missing one, the other has. This is the recipe for success from my point of view, and we are convinced that our beloved band knows how to create ballads like none! 8)

I never really looked at the ballads like this by dividing them into two groups and I actually can't judge like this. I think both have their great ballads and both have their weaker ballads, it's hard to say one balladwriter is better than the other, so I'll vote blank.
If you're an alien and you're landing on the planet earth and you say "What is rock 'n roll?", Scorpions would be it.

Me neither, you know .. I never gave it a thought before this topic. Then I went to the lyrics section, looked at the list and picked my most favourite ballads there - and I noticed they were all written by Rudolf.

Im gonna lean on Rudolf's ballads because Still Loving You and Holiday are my two favorites
Nobody knows the band Grand Funk? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drum work of Don Brewer? Oh, man!

Whoever wrote When The Smoke Is Going Down gets my vote.
So I guess that makes me a follower of Rudolfinism

I will join to Remco's opinion with mine.
I never had thought of Scorps ballads from this aspect yet before, and I can't choose now either.
All the Scorps ballads are so beautiful for me.
Klaus, and Rudy also have their caracters in their compositions, it makes their ballads special, and waluable.
Klaus-THE SPECIAL ONE,
Rudolf-THE WISE ONE,
Matthias-THE COOL ONE,
Pawe-THE SIMPLE ONE,
James-THE CRAZY ONE,
The Scorpions are THE NICEST GUYS.

:P I enjoy the Klaus and Rudolf's songs too much, but our able, lovely singer's ballads are more touching and romantic, like himself.

If you look at it this way, definitely Schenker. Favourite one of the "post-Roth" period is Always Somewhere.
