I taught myself to sing but I've never had any professional training, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips? Are there any easy ways to learn to hear pitches? Thanks.

Thanks for the site Rudolf.
Actually I am in a band and in which I sing and play guitar. I just want to strengthen my voice - though, I guess I've only been singing for two months so I'm doing pretty good. At least that's why my band mates tell me.

DefLep, there are many programs you can use to record. One of them (the one i use) is called Cool Edit PRo. You can find it on intrenet (or buy it on kazaa) All you need is a microphone. The program is easy to use, and i think you'll be able to figure out by yourself. There is also Cakewalk Pro Audio or Sonar (they are produced by the same company) who can be useful (you can add midi to your songs with them). There is also FruityLoops wich is cool, but with this one you can't record. I hope it helps ! Good Luck

Guitar Man, you can actually same them in mp3 format (actually waw and then you convert them on mp3) Go to volume control, then go to recording control. then for recording unselect microphone and select 'stereo mix'. then open a wave recording program and play the stuff you did in cakewalk. the wave recorder will record the signal that goes to the output speakers.
Have fun

I just did my first vocal performance. I think it went pretty well, and I had a blast. There also was a vocal teacher there and she came to me and said she'd love to give me lessons for free. So I'm jazzed about that!

Congrats. A good method for have better vocal technique is sing scales playing guitar. Or play the vocal line with the guitar, and follow it. I bet you know this method.
And also, an octaves exercice. Seems silly, but is very good, play it on guitar and sing it at same time, and is a very funny exercice.
Is based on E minor arpeggio notes:
E

__________2___14!__________________!_________________!
__7___19________!__________________!_________________!

This exercice is played and sing unchaining the three notes, E G B, is play with metronome, u can choose the speed, but for begin, maybe at 60.
It helps a bit. Isn't a great thing, but is fun for play. Have great utility for know each notes of the fingerboard, and think faster playing, and is also good for tune the voice for hit octave notes.

I don't know it helps you with singing rock ...
I'm in Lutheran church choir (I guess it's a lot different )
It's not just hitting the right notes... you might want to make sure each word is sang clearly, not sloppy, and drop jars when singing the sound a,e,i,o,u (do not lock your jar), make sure your shoulder/neck mustles are not tight (massages will help), drink honey and ginger everyday..... sorry it's not the kind of tip you were looking for..
