Read this! Matthias tells her about pickups:
"It has two Vintage 150 single-coil pickups, and the humbucker is the Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck model, because I knew what it sounded like."

It depends on tghe type of sound that you're looking, Jabocaster. If you want a sound with high output, and sharp tone, the choice is Gibson 500 T, and you can dig to the rest of the guitar players of your area, sure. Explorers and Flyings have this pick ups, are brutal.
If you want a distorted warm sound, with great mids and lows, the choice is a Di Marzio DP 155 (Tone Zone), is a very warm pick up, but gives lower output than 500 T. Other option is DP 100 (Super distortion model) these cream pick ups used in these classic albums..have a very warm and strong tone. Not use PAF PRO!! Ibanez Jem models uses this humbuckers,,and have poor sound, compared with guitars like Jackson Soloist, different Kramer (Baretta, Focus) Robin (specially Medley series), Gibsons or ESP (Mirage custom), for example.
If you wants a classic rock distortion, you can try with Seymour Duncan JB, (TB4), have a great tone, very good balanced pick up. If you want put a EMG 81, for example in a Strato-type guitar, the batteries matter is a bad thing, you should remove the pickguard in every change, i don't like this. And i don't like the tone, sounds like Hi-Fi, but some guitar players with great sound uses them, Like Zakk Wylde, or Kerry King, using Marshall 800 Amplification (the best choice for metal).

Sorry, about Seymour Duncan JB, isn't a trembucker (TB) is a SH4 model..and forgot say Live Wire Heavy Metal..is a savage pick up, maybe stronger than Seymour Duncan Invader (the pick up with giant polar pieces, with fat lows and mids.

For Sound exactly like Matthias:

-Gibson 496T (used by Matthias)
-Seymour Duncan JB (SH4) (Warren DeMartini, Matthias, Paul Stanley...) It's the one that I will buy

You should check out Bare Knuckle's War Pig and Miracle Man pickups. They're awesome!

Man, if you'd like my advice i'd suggest you tu stay away from EMG's because if you want to get further than metal you won't do it ... I you want some versatility, try some Di Marzios or Seymour Duncans ...

Yes, actually it would be a big hassle if you were to do that. Single coils have 1/3 the impedence of humbuckers normally, but if the humbucker is active, there'll be even a bigger difference. Also, the output will be different between the two. You'll definitely have to do some rewiring and maybe even change the volume & tone pots. I just talked to my brother, and he's going to find out some more about it if he can.

If you'll install an EMG humbucker in your guitar, is much better to install the 2 singles also. EMG SA sound very clean, without hum, no other single pickup is as silent like this.
You may do this cuz single pickups have not much output, and EMG humbuckers are one of the most powerful pickups, the difference is very several.
In the recent past i didn't liked much EMG's, but after to see to some players using them, like Wolf Hoffmann, i started to like them again, that man sound fantastic.
