Do The Scorpions use a baritone guitar for lower parts? or an alternate tuning?

I really like these last 2 release! Great guitar tone

I agree...Really fantastic tone. I read something from Matthias Jabs and he said they are just using several dropped tunings. Dropped D, half step down with dropped C#, and for 321 the guitar is tuned to D with E string tuned to C.

Thanks, do you know if they use baitone guitars...the live video I saw looked like baritone gauge strings....

Do they use different guitars?

Anything is possible. From what I've noticed, these days they are mostly using their Dommenget guitars, as they handle those low tunings very well (better than most). I saw them up close a few weeks ago and they appeared to be standard scale length & just set up with extra heavy gauge string like .013"-.056"/33mm-157mm or heavier.

Thanks, I really am not a big fan of down tuning, but these guys do it nicely...

Do you think they both uses lower tuned guitars on some songs?

I was thinking one may be down tuned and the other standard, playing in the same key as the down tuned?

Thanks for your feedback, interesting topic!!! (to me anyway)

I agree, very cool topic. I'm not heavily in to down tuning either, but I think some songs just need that "punch". And if/when it's done right, it really works. I really think they have used it properly - where it just sounds right.

Another thing I like is that they use several different tunings. It's not just one "standard" dropped tuning.

I can't say for certain, but from what I saw, Rudi and Matt both appear to be tuned the very same - I was actually watching for that the last couple times I saw them.

Thanks, and I sure hope I get to see them here in the mid-west this tour...I haven't seen them in about 20 years!

Thanks for all your insite!

If I find any more info, I'll post it here!

No problem at all CT4M. Glad I could shed some light. I hope you'll be able to catch them live, you'd be pleasantly surprised. I've seen them every time I possibly could over the years (4 shows on this tour alone). They really put on a spectacular concert....as good as ever, if not better IMHO.

I'll do the same if I find any more info!

I currently see Scorpions dates for the US in Sept. only - If they get to Chicago or Milwauee, I'll be there for sure D.V.

You have shed light on the subject of tuning...!
