Thanks for the heads up. Giggs is right, and if the damn things get into your hard drive, everyone in your address book is at risk of getting attacked. The only ones who benefit are Norton & the other anti-virus companies. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the perpetrators. Kind of like the Mafia in my opinion, pay us $$$ and we’ll give you protection (from us)

I know that with my old email service I had problems with email viruses. The Eudora email service didn't have it fixed to where you could scan for viruses before you download an attachment. In fact, their computers would get infected with email viruses and they wouldn't tell anyone. So, you ended up sending an email with a virus attached to it accidentally. That's why I changed email services. I wanted better protection and the option to scan an attachment before downloading it.
Yahoo Customer Service told me that the Netsky virus is interchangable so to speak.
Someone else recieved an attachment with the virus to it, but there was a different letter in it.
Here's the version that someone else received:W32.Netsky.D@mm.
So, beware of different versions of this virus.

Here’s an article I found pertaining to this subject:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s ... _worm_dc_3

A new computer worm dubbed "Netsky-D" was clogging e-mail systems around the world after emerging on Monday, a security expert said.

The worm is particularly difficult to root out because it lands in e-mail boxes using a number of different subject lines such as "re:details" or "re:here is the document."
"It arrives with an attached pif file (program information file) and it's already extremely widespread," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos Plc.

He said experts do not think the new virus is as big as MyDoom, which brought havoc to computer users and targeted Microsoft's Web Site, but that the full extent of Netsky-D's spread would be known as North America logs on.
When opened, the virus pif file will rapidly replicate itself, slowing down computers and e-mail bandwidth.
"We suspect people are more laid back about pif files because they may not have heard of them and may not realize they can contain dangerous code," Cluley said. "The best thing to do with this file is to delete it, don't open it."

Netsky-B, an earlier variant of the latest worm, was rated the third worst computer virus in February after MyDoom-A and Sober-C, according to Sophos, which writes anti-virus and anti-spam software.

That's why it is always a good idea to scan an attachment before downloading it or getting rid of it all together if you are not sure about it.

I heard back from my email service again. They informed me that they will definitely be investigating this, but as email abuse.
They asked for me to forward the emails with the attachments to them and the email about the Yahoo White List.
Hopefully, all of this will be resolved and resolved soon.

I heard back from my email service's customer care. They informed me that a few of the members did give out user names and email addresses to this Yahoo White List. That the email addresses that were given out is being used to send out email attachments with viruses to them. They are calling the email addresses that are being used as "forged" email addresses. In other words, the owner of the email address did not send out the email with the attachment. Instead someone forged that person's email address on the email with the infected attachment. To make it seem that it came from a familiar person, they also forged their user name as well. This way the person who gets the attachment will open it up without thinking twice. The person who actually has the email address doesn't even know that their email address and user name was being used to do this.
Yahoo said that they will be investigating further and try to find out where this Yahoo White List email originated from.

I just thought that I would let everyone know that I received several more emails containing email attachments infected with viruses. One of the emails that sent me an infected attachment was jameskottak@gmx.de. Since my email service warned me about forged email addresses, I checked the email addresses that sent me the viruses with the emails in the guestbook and they matched. Someone has taken the email addresses from this website's guestbook and is using them to send attachments infected with viruses to other Scorpions' fans.
Gabi has told me that the same thing has happened to her.
So, everyone please watch your emails closely.

I don't know Giggs11, but I would like to find out because not all of the emails contain the same virus. One of the contained a virus called W32.Beagle.F@mm. It's always a different virus or the same one.

I have updated Norton Antivirus. However, I keep on running it and it says that my computer is clean. Luckily, the virus never reaches my computer. After I run the scan from my Yahoo mail service, the download gets aborted.
It wouldn't be such a problem if it was an isolated incident. You know an email with an attached virus every so often. However, this is every single day with about 5 or 6 emails with attachments containing viruses. I emailed one person and they emailed me back saying that they never sent the email. I even got an email saying that an email that I sent out failed delivery. I never sent out the email to an educational institute in Hungary.
It's just so frustrating at times.

I know and I delete it, but if it's from a familiar email then I open up the email and scan the attachment. If this keeps up, I'll just change my email address.
