Down sizing avatar photo's

Hiya Guys 'n Gals.

I've read several topic posts in this section about setting up an avatar but still can't work it out properly !!! It said that I couldn't upload the photo because there was too many pixels and that I needed to down size to no bigger than 180X180 which I did.
as you can see from my avatar it's really blurred and out of focus. Why is this and what have I been doing wrong??

I went into a bookstore the other day and asked the woman behind the counter where the self-help section was. She said, "If I told you, that would defeat the whole purpose." (note: "self-help" has two meanings 1) you take without paying 2) you can choose as you like)

Steve, I use Photobucket for all my pix and in the Editor there is the Resizing option and when you put in the 180 on the largest size, then the other side is automatically calculated if it's not a true square. But I have never had Photobucket blur my pix that I put on here. So I hope you try it.

I use Paint.NET for fixing my photos... The only way I get blurred pics like that is when I am trying to make a small pic bigger.
